it's 4:30, 64 degrees on this tuesday, august 23or. another beautiful day ahead with lots of sunshine and highs of just about 80 degrees. good morning, i'm chris wragge. >> and i'm mary calvi. welcome to cbs 2 news this morning. we'll have traffic and weather on the 2s in a moment. but, first, new this morning, a security breach at the indonesiaian consulate here major police investigation. >> the nypd are looking for two people they say loot the place. cbs 2's magdalena doris joins us live from the scene on the upper east side. maggie. >>reporter: chris and mary, an unlocked side door here at the consulate made for easy access for these two thieves. police say they got in without breaking a sweat, and they got away with everything from clothing to a car. they were caught on video doing so. looking right into the camera,

consulate and then he's followed by a young woman. police say that they got inside just after 1:00 on monday morning. they broke into the consulate general of the republic of indonesia here on east 68th street between fifth and madison avenues, opening an unlocked door, taking their pickup, whatever was inside. in the surveillance, you can see the suspects walking through the building, and when they walked out just after 1:00 monday morning, they walked out with bottles of vodka, a a 2004 tan honda odyssey minivan. they used that as their get- away car according to police. now, one of the functions of the consulate here is to issue visas to indonesiaian citizens. no word if there was any sensitive information on that tablet that was stolen, but police say the 2004 honda odyssey van that they were traveling in an used as a get- away car has diplomatic plates.

van, and, of course, these two suspects this morning. live on the upper eefs, magdalena doris, cbs 2 news. >> thank you. an x-ray technician at a brooklyn hospital is out of a job this morning after being accused of sexually assaulting two patients, 65-year-old larry jones has been charged following alleged incidents at kings county hospital on saturday. both an 83-year-old woman and a 53-year-old woman said that jones touched them inappropriately. he was arraign on sunday. a daring rescue at a home up in flames in sayreville, jersey. five people, including a 1- month-old infant were able to escape the blaze through a second floor window when the home became engulfed in flames. young girls between the ages of 8 and 10 jumping down to safety as a mirror tossed her baby down to -- as a mother tossed her baby to rescuers. no major injuries. 4:32. time for traffic and weather on the 2s. up first this morning, hi, john >> good morning, chris and mary. winds didn't help the firefighters yesterday. winds will not be as strong today, but it's definitely a

driving to a wedding in new jersey sunday morning when tragedy struck. a car flew over the median of the l.i.e., slamming into the couple's blue bmw. >> i was 10 minutes behind them, so i was stuck in two hours worth of traffic, not knowing why. >>reporter: itchy died sunday night. his beloved wife of 35 years passed away monday afternoon. also killed in the accident, 29- year-old scott martella, the communications director for the suffolk county executive was a cuomo and engaged to be married next spring. >> it is one of the great, great tragedies, and there are no words for it. >>reporter: martella's high school sweetthart survived the accident, but three people were killed in the car that went airborne, including 10-year-old christopher pinellas. cbs 2 obtained video from inside the car secs before showing a happy family heading to a water park to celebrate

residue, the result of police dufting it for fingerprints after a hole invasion. 72-year-old bernardino gerrary a was unlocking it sunday night when two men walked behind him. he says two men pushed himself inside his apartment and looked at him and tied him up with zip ties. [ speaking spanish ] >>reporter: he said they were police, he told me. gerary a says he was forszed onto the ransacked a bedroom dresser, searching through the drawers. his 29-year-old son jason walked into the middle of the crime. >> it was so quick that he grabbed my arm and then put his other hand on my mouth and said shhh, like is that. i couldn't do nothing like that. >>reporter: jason says the suspects put duct tape over his mouth and tied his hands behind his back. they forced him to the ground with one instruction. >> just to cooperate, you know, they wasn't going to hurt me,

doplets. so we use the dewpoint to measure how much moisture is in the air. now, when that dewpoint is way up there, that's when you're dealing with lots of humanity. the dewpoint now compared to yesterday 10 to 15 to 22 degrees lower. we don't say cooler. we say lower. it's a relative measure, and relative humid can be -- humidity can be somewhat misleading because it can be relative to a high or low number. but when the dewpoint is in the 50s, yeah, it's refreshing, it's dry. so, yeah, maybe a little extra moisturizer. we talk about really low doiments in the wintertime. 80 your high today will feel like 80. scanning the skies, it's a big ridge of high pressure. we are high and dry today, tomorrow, a few more clouds creep in as we creep closer to the weekend, i know, kind of a bummer having to think about the weekend, we do see the possibility of a few showers or thunderstorms on friday. humidity is back.

saw their lives saved by volunteer firefighters. >> now the twins have become firefighters themselves, working side by side with the heros who kept them alive 18 years ago. cbs 2's emily smith has the story. >>reporter: luke and jake bavarro often do the same things, including their decision to become volunteer firefighters together in their hometown of lynbrook. it's a life choice that was spurred by this front page story in a local newspaper in

magdalena. >>reporter: chris and mary, the indonesiaian consulate is well lit overnight and it's outfitted with security cameras, but that did not stop these two robbers from looking for a way in, and they found an easy entrance, an unlocked side door. caught on camera, police say that these two suspects, a young man and a young woman broke into the consulate generale of the republic of indonesia on east 68th street just between fifth and madison monday morning, sneaking down an alleyway and then they broke in without breaking a sweat, opening an unlocked door and taking their pick of the items inside. police say these two got away with bottles of vodka. they also got away with a computer laptop -- i'm sorry, a computer tablet,let, a suitcase full of clothing and keys to a 2004 tan honda odyssey minivan. they used that minivan as their get-away car.

back to you. >> alex, thanks. it's being called the worst post office in new york city. customers say they're forced to wait in lines for hours for their packages >> they're demanding answers about their delays. ali bauman has the story. >>reporter: things can get heated inside the church avenue post office, patience is tested as customers often wait more than an hour for a package. this man even bringing his own chair for his stay. >> i went for an hour, us >> most times maybe an hour plus. >> i come here to pick up packages and i wait for like two hours just to get a package. >>reporter: many customers turned right around when they saw the wait. some believe the post office needs more tellers, but say complaint as to management fall on deaf ears. when i tried talking to a supervisor is this happened. the postal service says the reason there's so much foot traffic at this office is because mail carriers can't

it happened at around 12:30 this morning. the location is 196 seymour avenue. we have a crew headed to the scene and will have more details coming up in our next half hour. to campaign 2016, donald trump campaigns in texas today. hillary clinton attends fundraisers in california. her next rally is in nevada on thursday. meanwhile, clinton is dealing with new potential e-mail problems with word that 15,000 more of her e-mails have been found. the fbi discovered the messages during its investigation. clinton did not turn camp is suggesting that's because the e-mails were no longer in her possession. the first batch of these e- mails will likely be released to the public just ahead of the election. and donald trump is dealing with the issue of immigration and deciding just where he stands. trump was set to give a major speech on the issue this thursday. it's now been postponed until further notice. an original cornerstone of trump's campaign was to deport

illegally. but now trump's new campaign manager says his stance on the issue is, quote, to be determined. an update on a pair of accused manhattan ice cream thieves. they're chilling out, waiting to be arraigned. acting on a tip, police arrested 37-year-old mark hicks and 34-year-old ebony gillian in brooklyn. they allegedly stolen cartons of ice cream from a supermarket in chelsea two weeks ago. police say stolen ice cream is quickly sold to small stores for as little as 10 the dollar. it's happened again. someone is using an nypd radio channel to threaten officers and call them out on bogus calls. this first started last month. now the npped np says there were two more incidents this weekend. you may remember this haunting call that seemed to target a police chief. >> remember how you put me in? i'm out now and comeing to put a bullet in your head. >> the latest called a 10-13 call which is police speak for

robbed the indonesiaian consulate. >> investigators say the suspects walked right in. cbs 2's magdalena doris joins us live from the scene with the latest. magdalena. >>reporter: good morning, chris and mary. an unlocked side door here at the consulate made for easy access for these two thieves. police say they got away with everything from clothing to a car, and they were caught on camera in the process, looking right at the surveillance camera. this young man leads the way inside. a young woman then broke into the consulate generale republic of indonesia early monday morning just after 1:00. it's on east 68th street between fifth and madison avenues on the upper east side, and these suspects got in easily. they went down a hallway into a side door that had been unlocked, and then they just took their pick of whatever they could find. police say they got away with a samsung tablet, suitcase full of clothing, a case of vodka

to his apartment around 11:00 sunday night when two men walked up behind him. guerrero says they pushed him inside his apartment, told him not to look at them and then tied him up with zip ties. i asked him what the men said to him. [ speaking spanish ] >>reporter: they said they were police, he told me. guerrero says he was forced onto the ground while one man ransacked a bedroom, searching through dresser drawers. as that was happening, guerrero's 29-year-old son jason walked into the middle of the crime. >> it grabbed my arm, and then put his other hand on my mouth and went shhh, like that. i couldn't do nothing after that. >>reporter: jason says the suspects put duct tape over his mouth and tied his hands behind his back. they forced him to the ground with one instruction. >> just to cooperate, you know, they wasn't going to hurt me, you know, they was just coming here looking for some money.

>> my dad, pitful. pitful. an old man. >>reporter: the family says investigators are now reviewing surveillance footage from inside the building to see if the suspects were caught on camera. in the west farm section of the bronx, valerie castro, cbs 2 news. security screeners stop a man from bringing a large knife onto a flight at kennedy airport. tsa officials tweeted a photo of the black hunting knife yesterday. they say it was pulled from a passenger's carry-on luggage. they didn't say if the passenger was allowed to board the flight or if charges were a daring rescue at a home up in flames in sayreville, new jersey. five people, including a 1- month-old infant were able to escape the blaze through a second floor window when the home became engulfed. young girls between the ages of 8 and 10 jumping down to safety as a mother tossed her baby down to rescuers. everyone making it out alive without any major injuries. a newark day care center is set to meet with parents today after a disturbing incident involving a syringe found on a playground. newark police say a 5-year-old
