we hear about lung cancer. the majority of lung cancers are linked to smoking but we find connections between carbs we enjoy and an elevated risk of the disease. >> reporter: we know too many carbohydrates can be dangerous for your waistline. now, researchers say they may cause an increased risk of lung cancer. even if you've never been a smoker. the study conducted by the university of texas md anderson cancer center compared roughly 2,000 patients with lung cancer to 2,500 without. researchers found non-smokers whose diets had a high glios glrks ycemic index had two times the chance of getting lung cancer than those with a low one. >> the sugar in whatever food you're eating rushes into your bloodstream. it's not combined with fiber
