on i-74 near the ohio/indiana boarder..and near richmond, indiana.massive pileups are still being cleaned up this hour. hour.we'll update you on all that in just a moment -- first we want to get you to chief meteorologist steve raleigh.he walks us through what happened -- and what comes next. tuesday is a 9 first warning weather alert day . snow is expected to fall in the early morning hours and start to accumulate during the morning drive. a half to 1" of snow could easily accumulate during the morning rush alone. in all, 1-2" of snow is expected in the tri-state. a winter weather advisory is in effect and continues until 7 p.m. snow is likely to impact the entire viewing area, and we likely will see problems through the morning rush. plan for slower driving conditions, lower visibility and stopped traffic due to crashes. it will also be very windy as the snow falls. winds are expected at 15 to 20 mph from the west and gusting up to 35 mph. what does this mean? low visibility, blowing and drifting snow, and overall, poor travel conditions. snow will stop accumulating across most of the view area by 3 p.m. then tonight, temperatures fall fast into the single digits. this will lead to wind chill values

in an instant--cars slamming into semis-"we felt at least 10 impacts to that truck" a jack-knifed big rig first of several more to come "soon as i hopped out, semis just kept coming and slamming' into the pile. there were cars trapped under where they were hitting" with mangled metal lining the lanes and filling the embankment. i-74 harrison was no visibility. and then it hit like lightning" the scene - surreal - some calling it... apocalyptic"just as we clear those vehicles - you hear behind us - the crunching of aluminum and steel" police say 40 vehicles were part of at least two separate collisions "there are some injuries - we don't know the extent or the number of people who are actually injured at this time" sergeant stephen wheeles says it will be some time until the westbound lanes are reopened "normal tow trucks aren't able to haul those large semis - so we're having to try to find other large semis and other

in the city of cincinnati salt trucks began pretreating roads at seven last night.with crews handling 12 hour shifts -- the second round of drivers will work on city roads until seven tonight.as many as 60 pieces of equipment were on the roads throughout the blast of winter working to clear snow and lay down salt.we asked how crews think they did. 57.29 we did a good job mother nature helped us temps stayed up so it allowed us to pretreat ahead so looks like we started our pre treating worked well 57.42.10 57.42.10a quick reminder -- if you spot a salt truck out on the road tonight or any time this winter -- remember to give them some space.the state may not be responsible if your vehicle is damaged. with the cold means the snow that melted today -- will refreeze tonight.so don't forget to check in with *good morning tri-state* as soon as you wake up tomorrow for the

roads look.the team will also keep you in the know if there are any weather delays or closures. a troubling story out of east price hill today.a teenager is killed and police say his father pulled the trigger. police at the scene on blanchard avenue early this morning say a father mistook his son for an intruder - then shot and killed him. they say the boy, now identified as jeorta (jor-tay) mack, decided to skip school and go back home through the basement door. his father heard the noise, and police say he shot his son once in the neck. he was taken to children's hospital where he was later pronounced dead. courizma williams, neighbor/friend neighbor/friend i said where is he at? is he ok? that was the main answer i wanted to know. and then i watching the news and they say he died and i just i lost it. i totally lost it when i found out. it breaks my heart. 9 on your side's julie o'neill is working to get you more about what happened and what's next.we have the 9-1-1 calls... you'll hear those starting at 5 on 9 on your side. cincinnati police also updated

officer involved shooting that left a robbery suspect dead in west price hill.mayor cranley said today that the officers involved were 100 percent justified.it all started just before eight last night when police say 45-year-old robert tenbrink tried to rob the walgreens off glenway avenue. officers encountered that man minutes later -- and it was captured in graphic video -- that shows him comply for a moment before he points a handgun at officers. chief eliot isaac071240 - any loss of life is a tragedy where it's not our intention to do that, but if we are put in a situation, we will respond. officers will protect ourselves and we will protect the citizens of cincinnati. cincinnati.officials say the officers gave tenbrink orders several times before they fired.the officers involved are now on paid administrative leave. the reward for information about who set the fire that killed a hamilton firefighter has gone up dramatically.

taking a live look outside -- we are under a *winter weather advisory* until seven tonight. blowing and drifting snow can be a problem in some parts of the tri-state.and temperatures are going to get *cold*how cold?steve has a look at your 9 first warning weather forecast in just a few minutes here on the now cincinnati. if you have lower back pain you may have tried everything from special shoe inserts... to velcro back belts. belts.but the solution may be the opposite of what you'd think.researchers in a new study in "jama internal medicine" say the answer is exercise.they found it reduces the risk of repeated low-back pain in the year following an episode from 25 to 40 percent. it doesn't matter what kind of exercise you do... just that you're doing it.they recommend everything from back and ab strengthening... to range of motion exercises. but here's the problem. researchers say health care providers don't prescribe exercise nearly enough.they

patients participate in an exercise program... even if they have long-term back pain. researchers say this points to a bigger issue... with the health industry focused on selling products.a past study in the same journal estimates we spend around 80-billion dollars a year on spine problems. in the next five years more than 5-and-a-half million americans older than 50 will be struggling with substance abuse.that's twice the number of just ten years ago.the now's tania rogers shows us this growing concern. michael walsh knows the effects of drinking too much. for him, social drinking turned into an addiction. michael walsh--"but i think what it became was a learned behavior that that's how you have fun." he's been sober for 17 years..... years spent helping others struggling with addictions.michael walsh/harp --"alcohol is a poison. drugs will get the better of you, whether they are prescribed or not. so whether you are a heavy user or just a casual user, the cumulative effect over time

where that substance is not your friend anymore." dr. dan fortier, a geriatric doctor is also noticing.dr. dan fortier/geriatrics --"what i am seeing now is that a lot of retirees at young ages, coming down in their 40's and 50's and that they are drinking a lot more than they used to." dr. fortier says some may be using alcohol as a coping mechanism, especially after fortier/geriatrics--"they don't know what to do with their time fully. and so they get bored, and they will drink just to relax."tania rogers/reporting ----the doctor says drinking too much can also affect their health.- it can increase the risk of a stroke- it can affect the person's memory- liver damage ---- though dr. fortier tries to encourage his patients to limit their drinking, walsh says it's never too late to stop drinking altogether. michael walsh/harp--"it's very difficult sometimes to change when you are older, really change your life and see that alcohol is a problem. they have really good recovery outcomes, they seem to do really well, if they

university is changing its position... and taking back bill cosby's honorary degree. last fall... the school had said it doesn't rescind honorary degrees when new information about the recipient comes up. but now in a new letter from the university's president... he says the school changed its mind because of "renewed distress" for students and alumni who are sexual assault survivors.george washington university presented the degree to cosby in 1997.since then... dozens of women have accused him of drugging and sexually assaulting them over the years.he's now facing criminal charges in one of those cases. this isn't the first time a college has taken away an honorary degree it gave to cosby.oberlin college -- near cleveland -- rescinded it's degree in december. this may make you put down that can of soda.there's new evidence sweetened drinks can cause unhealthy fat to build up in your body over time. that's according to findings recently published in the journal "circulation."the fat they're talking about it called "visceral."it's not like the fat the builds up

federal panel -- called the preventive services task force. they say women ages 50 to 74 should get mammograms every two years. women in their 40s should consider it -- based on their risk factors. graphic 2 compare that to the american cancer society...who as recently as october...said...women should start yearly checks at age 45...and only **55 and up should test every two years. graphic 3but wait there's more...the a-c-o-g recommends women start yearly checks at age 40. so which recommendati on is right? we asked oncologist dr. dev paul. dev paul, d.o., ph.d. | rocky mountain cancer centers:55 that's a very good question and it's hard to know what the right answer is. everyone realizes that these studies are not 100 percent and there are problems with all of the studies done. one of the big arguments for screening every two years -- is the stress surrounding "false positives"...when a mass is biopsied...but ends up benign. 3:48 we kinda wasted the woman's time doing all that stuff, it cost a lot of money, and for a lot of women there's a lot of anxiety -- hey that could be cancer -- you do all
