heroin overdoses.cvs says it will soon sell *narcan over the counter in ohio. that's the medication used to counter-act the effects of heroin.more than 13 thousand doses of it were used last year in ohio alone.just last year -- officials made it legal to buy narcan without a prescription.cvs is on track to be the first major chain to start selling the medication over the counter in ohio.right now only eight tri-state stores offer it. a crime alert for students at the university of cincinnati. campus police say a group of people approached a student outside the chipotle on calhoun street saturday night and took their cell phone.the student started yelling and that's when the suspect threw the phone back and ran away! u-c police are reminding students to always travel in groups especially at night. people in southwest ohio are being warned to look in their mailboxes after explosive devices are found in three not far from the tri-state. tri-state.investigators say the devices were found saturday in preble county -- northwest of dayton -- but that crews in butler county

back at school ,,, since their beloved long-time principal was suddenly taken from them. susan jordan, the heroic principal of an elementary school in lawrence township, was laid to rest sunday in kentucky.that's less than a week after a bus lurched forward, hitting and killing her.this week - the school's teachers and staff are going out of their way to make sure everyone -- tall and *small, feels supported. "today will be hard. today will be strange... we will work together because that is what mrs. jordan would want us to do." the school district welcomed in therapy dogs for the kids and provided counselors so kids can talk about how they feel.the investigation into how that school bus hit the principal is still ongoing.so far... police have found nothing wrong with the bus ... and cause. the zika virus outbreak is getting so serious... it's now a "public health emergency." the world health organization making the rare move today at an emergency meeting.he virus first appeared in this forest in uganda nearly 70 years ago.

western hemisphere until just this past may in brazil. mosquitoes have now spread it to at least two dozen countries and territories. today -- the cincinnati health department issued a warning to pregnant women here in the tri-state to *avoid traveling to parts of the world where the zika virus has spread quickly. quickly.the cincinnati health department says if you have to travel - tell your doctor first.the department is monitoring the situation and promises to update the community when necessary. as if the alert about the zika virus wasn't already enough we're now learning el nino may allow it to spread farther and faster.we've been telling you for months now about el nino and seeing first-hand the impact it's having on our weather from extreme flooding to deadly tornadoes and severe ice storms here in the u-s. some experts say el nino also typically brings warmer and wetter weather to south america.that allows the mosquitos which carry the virus to thrive.they bite more often and can transmit the

less than a week before the super bowl... the n-f-l says concussions were up 32 percent this season.most of the 271 concussions happened during games.now the n-f-l is trying to figure out what's behind the increase.it says one possible explanation is more players are now being screened. the number of reported concussions had been going down since 20-12.last year the n-f-l said that was because players were changing the way they play. the fight against bed bugs is one we know in the tri-state. state.it seems like every year we land on *orkin's list of top 50 bed bug cities.the latest list -- released two

the *eighth spot -- down one space from the year before. scientists say bed bugs are getting even harder to kill. newsy's ryan biek shows us why. bedbugs are reportedly building up a strong resistance to some of the most powerful insecticides due to overuse, which means we might need to turn to non-chemical solutions to get rid of them. researchers from virginia tech and new mexico state university < http://jme.oxfordjour nals.org/content/ear ly/2016/01/22/jme.tjv253> tested the most common class http://www.bbc.com/ news/science-environment- 35421742 of insecticide called neonicotinoids, or neonics, which is often combined with pyrethroids in commercial treatments for bedbugs. they took a group of bedbugs that came from homes in ohio and michigan, which had previously been exposed to neonics, and compared those bedbugs to a population that has been kept in isolation for 30 years, before the insecticide was used.
