the other big news story this morning, a winter storm that is set to snarl commutes in the northeast and air travel nationwide. >> take a look at this shot. the storm arriving. you can see a little bit of flakes outside our studio here in manhattan. the new coastal storm will bring snow accumulations from washington, d.c. to boston. ranging from 1 to 8 inches. >> and boston is expected to get the worst as you mentioned, 4 to 8 inches where schools are already closed today, the latest weather radar shows that storm system marching up the east coast at this hour, but it'll be quick expected to be history by as soon as this afternoon. >> well, concerns grow over the zika virus at home and health officials in brazil say at least two cases were contracted flew blood transfusions with 12 of the 50 plus u.s. cases in florida, the governor there expanded the state of emergency to a fifth county and asking the cdc for a thousand kits to test for zika antibodies in pregnant women who may be at risk.

michigan officials knew about a spike in legionnaires' disease in flint much sooner. the disease may have been linked to the contamination of the city's water supply. the governor said last month he had just learned of the connection but e-mails obtained by the associated press show state agencies and high ranking members of his administration knew about it ten months earlier. mass exodus is under way in syria as u.s. backed rebels lose their hold of a key province. tens of thousands of syrians are fleeing aleppo after days of air strikes from government forces supported by russia. and they're heading toward turkey. on thursday more leaders pledged 10 $10 billion to help syrian refugees. >> back here at home there was a little bit of fun at the white house as president obama welcomed the nba champions, the golden state warriors, mr. obama imitating warriors steph curry

this dramatic rescue operation in washington state. a homeless man was hoisted to safety after being stranded on a cliff for three days. the man had slid to the edge of that cliff just a few feet short of falling to the river below. fortunately a worker heard him shouting for help. he's back on terra firma expected to be okay. well, enjoy the low gasoline prices while you can. president obama is proposing a $10 a barrel tax on oil. that's likely to raise gas prices about 25 cents a gallon. white house aides say the oil fee would fund environmentally friendly transportation projects such as mass transit. but it's unlikely to get a green light from congress. well, there's another huge air bag recall. these involve the controllers for air bags in about 5 million

the air bags made by a german company can deploy without reason or fail to inflate at all. involving older vehicles from honda, volkswagen and volvo among others. >> sad to say the deadline has passed and california lottery officials say no one has submitted the winning ticket for $63 million jackpot. it was sold last august at a 7-eleven near los angeles. whoever bought it had until late yesterday afternoon to claim happen. at least one person is suing claiming he submitted the winner but he was refused the prize. now, the lottery says some claims have to be investigated. grace. former heisman winner johnny manziel accused of hitting his girlfriend. the 911 call just released. is the five-second rule safe to follow?

manziel which led to him being investigated for assault. a report by ft. worth police indicates his ex-girlfriend claims he struck her several times last friday during an argument. colleen crowley said he appeared to be on drugs and ran to a maybe's home to get away from manziel, that neighbor calling 911. >> i heard her screaming so i came out to the balcony and she said her boyfriend had beat her up. she didn't want me to call you. >> does she need an ambulance? >> manziel tells tmz he did not strike crowley. they have not charged him with a crime. the nfl, however, is investigating the incident. a couple of passings to note starting with the founder of earth, wind and fire, maurice white. i remember how the stars ruled the night away >> there you see white singing his band's classic hit "september."
