a 14-year-old opened fire school, two kids are shot and all are recovering right now at the hospital. >> she said go hide and be quite. goes quiet. >> gathering brand-new information about the shooter and the four kids all with non- life-threatening injuries. 9 on your side at four. good afternoon to all of you i am tonya o'rourke alongside julie dolan. up-to-the-minute coverage in butler county madison township. we have been on air since the shooting happened at 11:30 this morning. waiting for an update from the butler county sheriff richard jones.
4:02 pm
we will take that life as soon as he starts speaking. we want to get you caught up to speed on what we know now. >> cameron smith, cooper caffrey were shot this morning inside the high school. two more students injured in the high school. brant murray and katherine doucette both 14-year-olds as well. nine on your side reporter since this first began, jay, update us on the situation. >> reporter: as you said, non- life-threatening injuries. the most important a bit of information here. i want to clarify one point, sheriff richard jones said flying shrapnel or possibly students trying to get out of the way. we don't definitively know the two other students who were not shot were in fact hit by shrapnel. it may have been in the mass press to get out of the cafeteria that in fact injured the students. some of the video i shot very soon after this happened. just afternoon. the scene has parents were waiting by the local gas
4:03 pm
parents were terrified and in shock. school district says the students went into their immediate traditional lockdown classroom doors were locked. exterior doors are always locked. shortly after it happened sheriff richard jones gave a briefing it is our understanding he will brief now. >> madison township at the school. the first call went out at there was a shooting in the there was an active shooter at there were four people injured in this incident. to victims shot, cameron smith, age 15. cooper caffrey, age 14. the next two people the way we understand it they were injured
4:04 pm
either by shrapnel from the handgun or by injuries getting away from the active shooter. brant murray age 14. katherine doucette age 14. the victim, these are the four victims. it appears at this point the victims are all in stable condition as we speak. the suspect james austin hancock, 14 years old. has been charged, he is a male charged with two counts of attempted murder. two counts of assault. inducing panic. making
4:05 pm
is in jgc at this time, he has been interviewed we are waiting for the court system and prosecutors office at this point. i will say that you will always hear about the shootings in other places. you don't think that the odds are against it happening here. there is over 3000 sheriff's offices in the united states. thousand of police departments, thousands of school districts. else. but also, at this school we have a school resource officer that was in the cafeteria where the shooting took place. minutes before the shooting cafeteria, heard the shots cafeteria. at that point, the shooter which is james hancock, ran out of the building, up on the hill
4:06 pm
his handgun at that point and kept on running. he was apprehended on top of the hill that appears on school grounds. he was arrested at that point. point. system, we are still working on where the weapon came from. it does appear he had his weapon for the first part of the morning in school. where the weapon was we do not know at this point or we cannot release at this point. the crime scene is a large crime scene. it takes time to get the crime scene worked, photograph, the detectives, the sheriff's office response was great. naturally when this kind of thing happens it effects all the schools in the rest of the district and outside the district.
4:07 pm
even in this county that were either in lockdown or were nervous and concerned and the schools in other also, when these shootings happen, you always get more three sugars. a gun in this locker. we are trying to review all this information that's coming in very rapidly and then we have the parents that naturally want to get their kids out of school and to see if they are safe. there was one shooter. it appears. we will know more as the night goes on. were there others that were involved not that we are aware of at this point, the investigation is continuing as we know. i want to thank all in law
4:08 pm
enforcement in this area. we had federal government and state law enforcement, federal law enforcement, local jurisdictions. we have our own still here. a joint effort. i can't list them all, there were so many. but, i will take questions at this time. we also met with the school today before i left the school, myself and chief and major met with school administrators and teachers and had a deep rethink of what took place. for them to prepare, that will be up to the schools how they handle it as far as the briefing and working with the parents. working with the kids in the schools. again, it's a traumatic experience. imagine being in the cafeteria when you were growing up in
4:09 pm
school and your eating lunch and then all of a sudden there is an active shooter. everything you have seen in school or seen on the news and you prepare for it you train your kids for it, sometimes it goes out the window. when the first shots fire. you just think it can't happen. and you are a parent at home and you get the call the notice, you get there very quickly and we understand. like i said it was organized the best you can do in a situation like this. i will take questions. some things i can't answer but i will tell you if i can't. or if i don't know the answer you will have the information handed out to you so you won't have to know the correct spelling you will have that handed out to you. go ahead. >> [ indiscernible ] are the juvenile charges at this moment? >> [ indiscernible ]
4:10 pm
>> arrested within 10 or 15 minutes. all the units responded and then the efforts were to set up the perimeter and then a trap was made. once he saw the dogs he stood up. >> chief blair sheriff's office what happened when the call went out both units responded we saw the guy take off he was tending to the victims waiting for the squad to come, they set up a perimeter around the school. the first thing to do is continuing sauce -- suspect. we did that and from there we branched out to search for him and a dog was able to track him and take him into custody. once the victims were out we tried to put everybody in place. frees the school freeze movement all the kids you don't know if there's another shooter or not. we did that, then we
4:11 pm
methodically went through the school to search if one of the children injured that ran and hid. we had to do a second search of the school. to make sure there was in another shooter or any others then we got a staging area for the media and parents. media had a quick response and parents come straight to the school went up in happens. so we set a staging area there. once that was under control we tried to move the students to the parents as quickly as we could.>> it went pretty good today as far as getting parents hooked up with their kids, imagine when you hear this and you see this, we had a couple employees that had kids in the school. than one. so imagine when you get there all the parents we all understand that. this investigation is still fluid.
4:12 pm
juvenile shooter. as far as the motive goes, we hear lots of rumors. trying to work on the motives we will have more information as it materializes. >> what kind of handgun? >> it appears it was a 380. it appears that way by look. that will be sent to bci for further examination. we will make a determination. the question was how many bullets. we don't have an exact number yet. the shooter told us he shot so many times but we found more casings than that. it appears a semi automatic weapon. when you pull the trigger and you are 14 years old maybe you don't know how many times you are shooting the weapon may be. we don't know that at this time. we got an idea we are working on that as we speak.
4:13 pm
>> [ indiscernible ] >> the question was how do you respond or how do you train for the response? we have been training for these responses to the school shootings sadly to say four years. the school has been training how to respond to these shootings for years. you respond it is muscle memory. when there is an active shooter in schools the school is closed down. there is an alarm system that goes off teachers know what to do. how they train, what the students actually know what to do. it's like fire drills. us and law enforcement we know we must respond their first and if the shooter is still shooting and still in the school we have a response to where we go in immediately first ones on the scene. this was not the case. the shooting was over and the
4:14 pm
to those that were shot. if an active shooter is in the schools you've got to go in and you've got to work on stopping the active shooter. its muscle memory and we have been training for years. when you get hit like that, it all goes out the window. the muscle memory kicks in. it's a pretty good response a great response. very satisfied with all of our response people and law enforcement, medical people this is a community where everybody knows everybody. everybody has family members and friends that go to the school. certain area, find out the witnesses and get them to the bus. those that don't get picked up we figure out how to get them home and we still have a crime scene and work on this activity. a couple more questions.
4:15 pm
>> [ indiscernible ] >> the gun was just thrown as he was running apparently. >> can you give us a picture of hancock? >> no, not at this time. the question was where the kids targeted? we can't, we can't release that information at this point. were they targeted or random? at this point we know the victims that were shot and we don't know or can't release the reason why at this point. >> you talked about how you responded from a personal standpoint when you get the call, what goes through your mind as the sheriff when you get the call that this happen here. >> it's simple what goes through my mind. my throat swells up and i start
4:16 pm
sweating. and then you start thinking how bad is it? it's a terrible feeling. and it is, it is a terrible feeling. anytime something like that goes down. imagine the deputies getting the call and they are having to go. what will they see what they have been trained for if something kicks and what they train for that's why they are professionals. we get there and we decompress. my part is a lot different than the first ones on the scene. imagine getting there not knowing if you have to shoot somebody in school, another student with a gun. you don't know. you know there is a shooting. is it family or friends or community. it's pretty tough. and to this day it seems as though there are more shoot -- school shootings. police officers being shot. the times we live.
4:17 pm
>> [ indiscernible ] >> i have to assume, i am not in his head i have to assume he is 14 years old. i have to assume he didn't have a plan. we know why he fled the building but we won't release that at this point. an ongoing investigation but >> any other weapons found? time. always rumors of more weapons -- shooters. at the same time the officers on the scene are looking at kids that are shot, are there more? the teachers, the witnesses, where is the shooter? is the shooter there or mobile shooters? the next group comes in with a bigger picture.
4:18 pm
a place for the family to go to. it is a multiple scene and a lot of different things. this ends the press conference i appreciate you all showing up and getting the word out. any pertinent information there will be somebody here to give you that. thank you very much. >> news conference butler county sheriff richard jones. a lot of information here most important information we received is that the suspect is 14-year-old james austin hancock. charged with the did murder making terrorist threats and inducing panic among other things. he is in custody juvenile charges for now police are trying to figure out how he got his hands on the 30th caliber handgun and fired shots

welcome back to 9 on your side. two of the four students who were shot are taken into the hospital in dayton. here is julie o'neill. >> reporter: at miami hospital the director of trauma doctor nk spoke to reporters about the status of the students who were shot, one of the shootings was shot once the other student was shot a couple of times but very good news for them neither were shot in a critical area such as the head or chest. both in stable condition. neither needed a blood transfusion. neither need surgery not at this point. he did go on to say one might need some orthopedic surgery. at some point. at this stage in the game he feels both will be able to go home in a couple of days. he did not elaborate on how they were doing from an emotional standpoint. just that he had been speaking
4:23 pm
with parents and both of these young teens are in stable condition at this hour. >> a lot of information coming out of there from julie o'neill, we will get back to her throughout the evening, but first some whether out there. chief meteorologist steve raleigh. >> we will keep it brief, 56 degrees right now, clear skies, we will stay clear tonight as temperatures drop to the 40s, right through the evening hours. a very pleasant evening around here. we have some changes set for tomorrow, we will start things off with clear skies tonight and maybe there skies for tomorrow morning as you get out the door, things will change as we go through tuesday. the rain at 6 am in the future radar. way out over in illinois. by late morning we got a chance for rain and in the afternoon we are going to see heavy rain. and isolated thunderstorms. it doesn't look like we will
4:24 pm
things stand right now but some storms on the stronger side. they will move to the area and get winds out of the northwest you will see what happens late tomorrow night into wednesday. possibility of flurries or snow shower coming up. in the meantime tuesday some sun in the morning then reno and possibility of storms for tomorrow. temperatures reaching the upper 50s and 7-day forecast watch out for some flurries on wednesday. temperatures dropping because of weather disturbances thursday and saturday we have a possibility of seeing a few flurries early before it turns into rain. cold warnings we will have. nothing significant but it will be around. thinks so much, coming back life with up-to-the-minute updates on the shooting inside madison high school right after the break.
4:25 pm
4:26 pm
4:27 pm
4:28 pm
we are back with live up to the minute coverage of today's school shooting. >> just to recap, four people were hurt. the suspected gunman is now in custody. we want to give you a listen to one student's account of what happened inside madison high school this morning. >> i was walking out of the library and it's right next to the cafeteria. so all i hear is bang. i thought it was someone dropped a tray or something. you are hear bang, and then maybe pause for live five seconds and then bang, bang, bang, total of four shots. i am like what is going onthat's a gun. all the police if the resource officer room, they ducked out. they ran straight too the cafeteria, i ran back in the library. no one really heard anything in the library. it was very loud. and they're kind of just sitting there like, what was that?
4:29 pm
the teacher is said don't knock so loud. no, i said there was a shooting. she grabbed her keys and there's like a little hall and we went to another room? >> scared? >> very scared. kind of like you're shaking, my legs won't stop shaking for another hour. i'm just like shaking, what is going on? when are they going to tell us? it was a while when they talked to us. so when they're walking around, they didn't talk to us and we were in that little cubicle. so it was very suspenseful. >> just like a big bang. like gunshot. and then everybody stopped talking and like ran out. >> we are getting more and more developments. new information coming out about the shooting in madison township today. >> that's right. four students, again, recovering after a student opened fire inside madison high school cafeteria this morning.
4:30 pm
ago and we have an update. >> reporter: we've just learned the shooter has been identified as 14-year-old james austin hancock. and now the first call came in at 11:15 for reports of an active shooter. sheriff jones says hancock ran out of the school and threw the gun as he was running. and now he continued to run up the hill. that's where he saw a k-and 9 that's when he surrendered. right you now, detectives are trying to figure out a motive. he is facing two counts of attempted murder, felonious assault and inducing terrorist threats. sheriff jones says the weapon was recovered. he is in custody at the juvenile detention center. and all four victims are in stable condition. two six were shot. and the other two victims were injured trying to run away from the active shooter. sheriff jones did say, this is a large crime scene so it will take a lot of time for this investigation.
4:31 pm
now we do expect to get an update this evening. reporting live, 9 on your side. >> thank you. students inside were safe. many of them turned to social media to express their relief and concern too. >> and we have been monitoring that all day. we are instudio with a look at what students are saying. >> reporter: yeah, you know, plenty of people went to twitter and facebook and we are now hearing and seeing firsthand the students and what it was like inside the school. owen says, if everyone can pray for my school. there's a shooting going on. pray nobody was hurt. that was early on. and then he came back to the say, i now know the shooter and the victims. this is a small school so this is one of the situations where they know each pool. he was concerned about knowing the shooter and the victims, all of them continue to pray for their families. and he says he's proud of the kids who saved so many lives today. and in addition to that, steve said, very thankful for madison
4:32 pm
heard throughout the day, it was the school resource officer that stepped in. that hashtag there, pray for madison, that's one of two hashtags that the kids are using on twitter. this is their primary form of social media, twitter is. you will cy-pres for madison and you will see #moe hawkstrong. and hannah says she can't wait to go home and hug her parents. another tweet implied she was inside the school when this happened. and katy, the scariest experience she had went through. she had a number of tweets. and this one, i can't believe this happened. it feels like a horrible nightmare. i never dreamed it would happen at my peaceful little schools. so many parents saying that same thing, that the tiny school in a little area where everybody knows everybody and here we sit with this terrible event happening today. here's the #again prayformadison. amanda says this is probably the worst one yet.
4:33 pm
this is a really upsetting day. and this one, crazy to think that my 14-year-old baby brother had to witness children in his grade being shot at. please pray for your community. it's important to note, there was for a time a meme out there, a negative one. we're not going to show it because it doesn't need to be shown. ever, especially on a day like this when the community is recovering. a kid just trying to probably get a few retweets on twitter but the backlash is pretty significant on twitter. if you look for these kinds of thing, really the students putting that guy in his place as much as they could this is what the students are saying. we will continue to monitor twitter and bring you more coming up in a few minutes. >> wow. some good insight. thank you so much. we want to go to live in chopper 9. dan -- >> reporter: yeah, well, this is the scene here at the madison junior senior high school.
4:34 pm
and it largely calmed down from what we saw a little bit earlier today. the parking lot still has a few cars left in there. probably students who didn't feel like they wanted to drive home after the events of today. and more than likely hooked up with their parents and went home. we heard the press conference, the news conference from sheriff jones earlier. he indicated that his deputies were still onscene here and we see multiple sheriff vehicles still here on the scene. a group of deputies hanging out here. they have been having a meeting since the time we have been here, for about the last half hour or so. and some more investigators on the scene. kind of hard to tell with this shot because of the shadow, but crime scene tape still up in front of the school as the investigation into the shooting goes on. so the scene here at the high school, pretty much calmed down but sheriff's investigators still on the scene.
4:35 pm
they still have a lot of work to do. chopper 9. >> and dan, we want to stay with you for a moment. i spoke with you earlier when there were many more cars in the parking lot. we know most of the students have gone home. but the school district did let us know that latch key students are still in the school at this time. they are allowed to stay until 6:15. however the school did want the to let parents know they have to pick up the kids at door seven. you have been showing us different entrances. any idea which door that door 7 is? >> reporter: right. the main picture, this is the entrance to the junior senior high school. and then there's another entrance over here which may or may not be door number seven. after we saw the majority of the high school kids get picked
4:36 pm
up and leave, then we saw a lot of activity in this area. this is the elementary school entrance. we saw the younger kids run into the arms of their waiting parents as they went much through the same procedure. i will go ahead and pull out for those who may not be that familiar with the campus. because we have all the school buildings in one area, it's a rather large complex of buildings and we talked about this earlier, about how really all the space here is essentially under one roof. and that's probably what led to a lot of the concern today that even though the shooting happened in one part of the billing, you could be very far away and it appears from our vantage point that you can get from one part of the building to the other part and never have to step foot outside.
4:37 pm
building, one end of the campus to the other. i imagine that was probably one of their major concerns when they first heard about the active shooter. but of course, the resource officer was able to take care of that situation rather quickly. i think we heard the time from the first report of the shooting to the time of the apprehension was between 10 and 15 minutes. so some quick response there by the school resource officers who were able to get the situation under control. >> by all account, it was impressive. thank you for that reporting. we appreciate it. we will check back. and we continue with live up to the minute updates on the shooting inside madison high school. we are back in minutes. there's no excuse.
4:38 pm
4:39 pm
4:40 pm
4:41 pm
welcome back to live team coverage of the school shooting at madison high school. >> we are standing by live outside the school in madison township right now. >> reporter: let me set the scene here a little bit. chris and i have been here for quite some time. and there's still a lot of activity. you can see a number of deputy vehicles back there. we have seen k-9 units still here walking around actually in one of the fields. not sure if they're just exercising the k-9 units or looking for a piece of evidence tied to this. but obviously a very active scene and investigation here at the school. and this community is still on high alert. >> you mentioned the activity over the last 30 minutes or so is more detectives onscene. just talked to a local pastor who says had the next 30 minutes or so at a local fire station up the road, they'll have a crisis management meeting for the first southerns who responded here today. and some of the other angles we have been working, a teacher in
4:42 pm
she was taking her kids to the cafeteria when she got a text from her daughter who is a senior here who was in the guidance counselor's office. she said, mom, i'm in a closet in the counselor's office, i'm safe. the words she said to me and a story we heard all day, it was the most terrifying moment i've ever had as a parent. >> and the social media aspect, kids have phones. it's just part of life. and today, we saw how those phones helped kids reach out to their family members to say, ape hey, i'm safe or we are in a classroom, the lights are off. and so many parents texting and tweeting and using social media today, all right, i can't wait to hug my son or daughter. >> and in some case, it's not social media. we are about 353 had hundred yards from the school itself. we are on the property. and the residents to of this house saw the commotion and going on before the sheriff's deputies were able to get here.
4:43 pm
they rushed down there. one of the homeowner getting into the parking lot before the sheriff's department arrived onscene. she knew she couldn't get in. already the school was in lockdowned. she praised the administrators here. the school was on lockdown moments after the shooting. she couldn't get to her kids. so she got back out and let the deputies do their job. >> and it was quick action today. the kick action by the sheriff's department, the school official, the administration saying everything, their protocol was in place and they practiced this time and time again. and everything worked like clock work today to make sure that the kids could be safe once the shots rang out. >> and as you mentioned, we have seen some deputies here with the k-9 unites. it was like the scene earlier today, immediately after, we're not sure what part of the investigation, but it's ongoing and active this hour. so once again, we are talking about the crisis management meeting with the firefighters and the first responders at the local fire house.
4:44 pm
middletown, a quiet, more knows their name. and one of the comments we heard from some of the parent, they go to church together. speaking of that, yesterday in this very building where the shooting took place, greg cox, a pastor who holds sunday service each and every week. his message yesterday was, we have to stay together as a community. we may not think danger is in the community because we are in such a rural community, but it's closer than you think. he said i never thought it would ring that true. it's been a very, very scary day here. >> that's definitely a thought. and we have spoke on the a number of people and they say, i can't believe it would happen here, not in our community. and it has. and it shows you that these types of indents can happen anywhere. and it's a tragedy here but it's a tragedy across the country as we see these incidents ring out. and there's a clear message being sent, we have to get control of this. and as a community, we need to come together and as a country,
4:45 pm
together and figure out what's going on. >> exactly. and now they look into the motive. what exactly was going through his mind when he pulled the trigger here several times today. kids said they heard at least three shots. and the other thing, this is as close knit as you get. and the school is a part of the community. they surround it not only with activity, athletics, but everything is here. we have the elementary, middle school and high school all on one campus. >> and one of the wrestlers on the team with the alleged gunman said everything seemed normal. didn't at least to him appear to be any issues. and just like any other kid in school. so it's one of those elements that as the investigation continues, and the sheriff's investigators continue to look into this case and try to figure out what was that tipping point, why did this kid come to school with a gun? where did the gun come from those are details that we're tracking and following and all of our crews throughout the area here.
4:46 pm
past the high school on the way, it almost looked like things were back to normal. kids back playing on the swing sets the. investigation is ongoing. once again, the community is starting to heal already from this process. >> that's right. and we will send it back to you. of course, our coverage is just getting started. >> stay with us for a second. this is your hometown. middletown, you grew up right around there. so when you heard this news today and i know it's a personal question, but when you heard about this question shooting today, did your heart squeeze just a little harder than you thought it might? >> absolutely. because this is west middletown the, i grew up here, playing sports here. the golf course, that's a staple that's been a big story over the years. but the first thing i thought of, my family, my sister's friends have kids that go to school here. and that's the first thing you think about. and you just say, oh, no. the first sigh of relief was when we found out there were no fatalities.
4:47 pm
not talking about dead kids from this school. >> that is a huge point. >> but your heart does drop. >> absolutely. with all those connections in the community, you had to be thinking, i know someone, there's six degrees of separation to knowing someone connected. >> exactly. and it's scary when it hits close to home. everybody has said the same thing, you don't think it's going to happen here until it does. >> and it did. thank you. we appreciate your reporting from there. >> yeah, and a similar sentiment came from sheriff jones who said that a lot of his deputies have students that go to school there. the first thought is, do i know someone? my kid? >> yeah. >> all right, our live team coverage continues in minutes. but we want to get a check of the forecast. okay, thank you very much, guys. and we've had a nice weekend around here. and the day the continued today with pleasant weather around for monday. and you will notice temperatures dropped a little bit around here, anywhere from about 10 to 12 degrees around the region.
4:48 pm
we have sunshine around the area. we're going to continue to see some clear skies tonight. but there's a weather system to the west that's going to change the forecast as we head into tomorrow. we are looking for some rain tomorrow. colder air for the week. and even a chance for maybe flurries back in the forecast. let's look at the future weather. here's tomorrow morning at 7:00. and you will notice we're clear. we're going to see maybe a few clouds around but i think some sunshine will start the day. and you will see what happeneds. as soon as late morning, we could see rain in southeast indiana and then we're going to get rain in the afternoon. and now there will be pockets of heavy rain and isolated storms cutting through the area in the afternoon and still some showers during the evening hours. so it does look like the morning commute will be fine but by the afternoon, as a rule the windshield wipers for sure. and as the front moves through, that's what it is, a cold front, it's going to unlock colder air. and we will still have the clouds as we move into wednesday but late tomorrow night into wednesday morning,
4:49 pm
a snow shower because the temperatures are going to drop. 55 degrees outside right now. we're going to see temperatures in the 30s in the morning. take a look at the temperature, i've got it at 8:00. and we're looking at about 37, 38, 39 degrees and most spots as we go through the day on your tuesday. our highs will be earlier in the day. and then the temperatures will drop a little bit into the afternoon because of the rain. 55 degrees in cincinnati at 3 :00. but once that cold front moves through, you see the colder air sweeping in. so by wednesday morning, a big difference in the temperatures. 28 degrees at 8:00. and then through the day for wednesday, we're looking at temperatures only in the upper 30s. over all, we're looking at a really big drop over 24 hours. 36 degrees overnight tonight and mostly clear. and then coming up for your tuesday, tomorrow, 58 early on with some rain. a few isolated storms.
4:50 pm
is, we go from 58 to 38 degrees. a couple other disturbances. that's not a big deal. i don't want accumulation from any one of those little systems but because the temperatures are so cold in the morning lady, it's a possibility of seeing flurries before we see rain in the mid to feel day. >> all right, thank you so much. our coverage of this school shooting inside madison high school continues after the break. >> the disbelief. it's hard to believe that it happened in a community this small. i mean, you never expect it.
4:51 pm

4:54 pm
4:55 pm
welcome back to the special edition of 9 on your side at 4:00. we are staying on top of a school shooting in butler county. >> the school demonstrator is president of the national school safety and security services which is a consulting firm in cleveland. thank you so much for being with us. students describe watching the school resource officers responding to the shooting. how big a role do school resource officers typically play in?
4:56 pm
as you saw today, their presence on campus by being able to save minutes in response time can save lives. and they do save lives. but on a day-to-day basis, they actually prevent more than they ever do in terms of arrests. most school resource officers never have the experience that was had today at that school. thankfully so. but it's their prevention program. they build relationships with kids. they learn about kids who have problems and needs. so they do a lot to prevent school shootings. we hear about the high-profile incidents but we will never hear about the many incident thes that get prevented. fortunately when one does occur, they're right there. >> and now this campus in particular had one resource officer. is that enough for a student body of 1500 to 1600? would adding more prevent something like this? >> that's pretty common for most high schools and middle
