members were lost after the container ship left florida for puerto rico heading sprite the teeth of hurricane joaquin. three of the crew members had ties to massachusetts. federal investigators are now looking for that ship's black box. its data recorder. >> it's a type of recorder known as a simplified recorder which records the audio on the bridge as well as basic navigation information, such as course and speed. >> the ship's captain apparently intended to steer around the storm but the el faro lost power as it neared the hurricane, recovering it is certainly no sure thing. they hope they will find something on the data recorder that will explain why that massive ship lost power in the first place. >> a man is facing federal charges for allegedly sending bomb threats to several schools. 24-year-old anthony ray is accused of sending multiple false bomb threats to schools in massachusetts, rhode island, illinois, and north carolina. several public schools in norwood were among those targeted as well as itt

technical institute in norwood where he was attending at the time. >> jury selection began today in the trial of a teenager accused of raping and killing his math teach. chism was 14 when he was charged in the 2013 death of 24-year-old colleen ritzer. she was a teacher. chism will be tried as an adult. defense attorneys say they plan to use a mental health defense but they have not revealed specifics. >> the long time girlfriend of fugitive companion of mobster james bulger will be back in boston federal court. october 19 is the date. catherine is facing criminal contempt charges refusing to testify about whether other people helped bulger during his 16 years on the run. craig is serving an eight-year sentence for identity fraud and conspiracy to harbor a fugitive. if convicted, he could face new prison time. >> randolph woman employed as a nanny is arrested and charged with

forging checks. accused of forging 65 checks totaling more than $280,000. she avoided detection by destroying the bank account statements when they arrived at the home. she used that money to purchase jewelry and also to take trips to the bahamas and hawaii. back this 2007, fox was also charged with using credit cards that she stole from customers while working at a restaurant. >> draft kings and fan duel banning their employees from playing daily fantasy sports for money as the integrity of their business is being questioned and the attorney general says she, too, is consumers. janet reports this all comes as massachusetts considers getting in on fantasy football. >> draftkings c.e.o. jason told espn today that their employee who won $350,000 last week from their competitor fan duel has not damaged the integrity of the game. >> this particular incident was

>> a medway man has been ordered held without bail. our partners report that the 48-year-old man is facing 50 charges including assault and battery on a family member and two counts of assault and battery on a police officer. his attorney says the guns were purchased legally. >> a chatham police officer who ran over and killed a college student early new year's day will not face charges in that case. the officer, was responding to a business alarm when he struck 22-year-old garret of long meadow as he lay in the middle of the street. investigators say he had alcohol and drugs in his system. drug and alcohol tests determined he was not impaired. >> a $2 million lawsuit brought by a former carlisle high school student who said his school administrators did nothing after she complained of relentless bullying has been dismissed. the abuse included death threats

first time in more than a year. >> i just want to go home. >> for the last 14 months, the 3-year-old has been at franciscan hospital for children recovering from a devastating virus that attacked his spinal cord leaving him unable to breathe or speak on his own. >> it's unclear that christian had a virus. >> all we know is that he had some damage to his spinal cord and to parts of his brain that are getting better over time. >> it started back in august 2014 when christian, who was healthy suddenly got sick. he ended up at mass general hospital where he laid paralyzed on a ventilator for weeks before being transferred to franciscan hospital. >> it's horrible to watch your child just stop moving. >> he fought for every single inch of his recovery. >> what was supposed to be a 12 to 14 week stay turned into 14 months, but christian refused to give up, fighting every day to get better. >> and with the help of the team at franciscan hospital and a

we need to make sure we have clear skies and there may be a few clouds but we'll see s. 71 degrees the high temperature. normal 65. above average. in fact, it was the warmest temperature for the month of october so far. it's also the warmest temperature we've seen since september 30. skies clear. it's 69 degrees. wind out of the west at eight. there may be a few clouds that come through tonight but i don't think we'll deal with much more than just cloud cover. there is no rain to talk about. look at the clear skies. as you look back to the west, a cold front sitting out here but as this comes in look at the sprinkles and watch the trend over the last three hours. they just fall apart and that's what will happen. the clouds will come through. see temperature tomorrow a couple of degrees cooler. but not a dramatic cool-down. just a little chillier than today but today was exceptional. mostly clear. 44 to 50 degrees. tomorrow, maybe a few early clouds and then sunshine by the afternoon. a high temperature of 60 to 64.

pretty close to normal for this time of year but a little cooler than what we had going on today. high temperatures tomorrow will look like this. some areas away from the coast in the low to mid 60s. if you're right near the shoreline maybe just the upper 50s. marshville, 358 for a high temperature. cool air is in place. the next chance for rain doesn't show up until friday. friday comes in, in two batches. first threat in the morning and then a gray day and then another chance as we head towards late afternoon and evening. not looking for a lot of rain. maybe .2 of average of rain. moving through too quickly but it will be pretty gray as we talk about friday but not a washout. just a chance to see some scattered showers. speaking of rain, we could use it. we're running at 23% below average for the year so far. we're at about six inches on the dry side. for the month of october, below average but we could make that up pretty quickly at this time of the month. here's what's going on for tomorrow. sunshine, 62 degrees. beautiful day. friday, we've got a chance for showers.
