this is wcvb newscenter 5 at 5:00. phil: we begin with breaking news on boston common, one person arrested, a second rushed to the hospital with severe stab wounds. heather: this happened at the busy corner of tremont and park streets right outside the t station. police say this is not a random attack. the victim, who is homeless, is expected to survive. phil: and at the marina, flames consuming at least five boats there, causing one of them to think. people were actually inside some of those boats when the fire started. heather: newscenter 5' s rhondella richardson is live in quincy tonight rhondella? rhondella: you can see there was massive poverty damage, no injuries, and they still don' t know the cause. the fire started out on a 35 foot carver, a cabin cruiser

one of the owners was inside. >> she said -- she saw and smelled smoke, and she yelled to my dad and we just yelled for her to get off of the vote. she was afraid of what would happen, some people it back and pulled her district and they eventually ended up on the right side. rhondella: sky 5 shows the way the fire spread, fueled by so much. >> point you create a big enough gap, the heat and flames will spread from boat to vote. rhondella: they lost the vote they lived on.

aixa: kevin mccarthy shocked everyone when he announced he is withdrawing for nominee for speaker. >> if we are going to be strong, we have to be 100% united. aixa: the next bigger needs a 218 vote majority to do the job. >> we need to have a discussion because we need to find somebody that our whole body can unite behind and do what we are elected to do. i expect: -- aixa: he says he does not have the backing of the whole house. >> it will not be easy to bring all factions of the republican party together. aixa: they could suffer in 2016 if they do not come together and show solidarity now stop >> they need to get their act together and [indiscernible] aixa: it could cause longer-term issues for congress.

>> there were conversations and then it continued down the block to where the stabbing occurred. ed: stone and his two childhood friends helped to work a terror attack while on a french train on vacation. s highest obama. in france, his finger was cut off with a box cutter and had to be reattached. now with this stabbing, he is recovering from significant, but not life-threatening injuries. his family tweeted that everyone should pray for the stone family today. ed: detectives are now searching for two suspects that manage to get away. they said it has nothing to do with the incident in france. phil: the search continues for the wreckage of the sunken container ship el faro and its data recorder. all 33 people aboard were killed last week when the ship sank after losing power and getting caught in hurricane joaquin.

the data device is similar to an airliner' s black box and might contain information that could explain why the 790-foot ship lost power at the worst possible time. but first searchers have to find the ship itself somewhere near the bahamas about 3 miles deep. heather: 15 people managed to safely escape a new hampshire hotel fire. the hotel on the beach. it costs severe damage to the third floor. 15 guests and staffers got out. the cause is not known at this point. to oxford where we do know what caused a huge fire at a vacant warehouse. the state fire marshal said it was accidental. it is believed it was started in a makeshift kiln with human remains. they were big concerns about toxins with asbestos removal

next-door. it took 10 tankers of water to contain that fire. phil: dell is in position to take over in one of the biggest technology deals ever. emc currently employs 9500 people cure in the bay state and it could result in job cuts. verizon wireless is applying financial pressure to convince longer-tenured customers to give up their unlimited data plans. verizon stopped offering the unlimited data plans to new customers 4 years ago, but allowed those who had them to keep them at 29:99 a month. next month, that price jumps to 49-99. at&t is trying something similar to get it' s unlimited data customers to surrender their

heather: you see that? wow. 100 pounds of pot were arrested at logan airport. inside the suspects suitcase was 100 pounds of pot packaged in heat-sealed plastic wrap. he has been charged with trafficking in marijuana. phil: the heroic army veteran who tried saving students in last week death -- deadly shooting at an oregon trinity college is now out of the hospital. he was released last night and had been shot several times. the 30-year-old found the fire alarm and then went back to his classroom to confront the gunman.
