methuen. trains and buses running on schedule. emily: breaking overnight, a driver says he was shot at on the highway. randy: right now, police are searching for suspects and answers. let' s get right to the eye' s sera congi. she' s gathering information at the state police barracks in foxborough. sera: state police are still looking for another vehicle involved in the shooting. they say this was not random. the scene. this happened last night just before 11:00 in wrentham. a vehicle heading southbound on 495 had been shot at near exit 15. the man was not injured. evidence on the car. during the preliminary investigation, state police say it appears the vehicle was again, not random. investigators are looking for

able to communicate that they were in pain because of the dust of not getting the drugs she was supposed to have administered. martin was allegedly working at another facility when she was arrested. emily: new plans to shutdown the pilgrim nuclear power plant are causing concerns in plymouth. today town selectmen will meet discuss the economic impact on the region. it comes after pilgrim' s parent company, entergy, announced it would close the plant by june 2019, if not sooner. the company says the plant will lose $40 million a year if it keeps operating. plymouth will lose millions in but safety at the site is the clutch the count is official and senior management continue to be the pilgrim station site in community. pilgrim' the plan is unacceptable. governor charlie baker is also s

afternoon. the cold front came through, but there is a trough to the west. you will see a few clouds, could be a sprinkle. you will notice the wind shifting around, assuring in the cooler temperatures. this is why we talk about the temperatures going from the 60' s and 70' s, going for highs in the 50' s and 40' s. cool weather headed in our direction. today, a sunshine and cloud mix, not as warm as yesterday, 62 to 68. westerly winds at five to 15. overall, not a bad day. high temperatures today, a few places will get really fairly mild, 69 in lawrence. taunton, should managed to get up to about 69. mid-to-upper 60' s. keep in mind, sunny this morning, a few clouds this afternoon and that wind picking up today as well. by noon, clouds building out of the west. if you look really carefully, those are the sprinkles we are talking about. it passes on through. there may be a little for your

northbound just before 128 after route 139. you have delays back into brockton heading north. boy am building on the expressway. -- volume building on the expressway. north of town, 93 south, delays other methuen. picking up more volume to the leverett connector. trains and buses are doing ok, but minor delays on the orange line. emily: jury selection in the philip chism murder case is on hold due to questions about his mental stability. chism' s lawyer says she can' t communicate with the defendant, who is charged with murdering his teacher, colleen ritzer, two years ago. a defense psychologist says she tried to talk with chism, but he said nothing and banged his head on the floor of his cell. chism could be sent for a full psychiatric exam to see if he is competent to stand trial. the new hampshire man accused of killing his parents will go on trial in january. that date was just set in the case against matthew dion. prosecutors say he beat his parents to death inside their home in manchester, then set the

house on fire several days later. that was in march 2014. dion went on the run afterward but was eventually arrested in , florida. randy: topping economic headlines this morning boston affordable housing in the city. developers of new buildings to increase the number of cheaper units in their projects. or he could ask them to build affordable units elsewhere. the idea comes as rent prices continue to increase. a top lawmaker is pushing to tax fantasy sports websites. state senate president stanley rosenberg says the growing industry has to be regulated. the comments come after a "new york times" article suggested a close relationship with top sites fanduel and draftkings. the times reports staffers at those sites tend to be the biggest money winners at their rival site. right now, asian stocks are

a big problem, but a few clouds developing later today. right now you step outside, gorgeous skies, 56 in boston. a few spots a little cooler, a few upper 40' s era in there. overall, what a great way to be starting at your wednesday. the winds will be picking up later this afternoon. they' re not too bad right now, just out of the west/southwest at about eight miles per hour. we have a band of what we call a trough, an extended area of low pressure. the main cold front came through already. this has a little cooler air behind it. you' ll notice each day is a little bit cooler. we' ve had temperatures in the 60' s and 70' s, now talking about the 50' s and 60' s. this afternoon, notice how the clouds start to bubble up. toward the evening hours, some clouds, could be a sprinkle or two. what you will notice is the cloud cover comes through, the wind picks up, the temperatures cool down.

serious concerns this morning. jim: much of the video too graphic to show. police hope part of it will help them track down the suspect. this goes back to something that happened about two weeks ago, saint sava church. the intruder barely walk to and 3:00 in the morning on september 29. he wandered in priest' s robes for 45 minutes, before stripping down and committing a lewd act on the altar. >> this church is a living being with us, an important property. it is part of our sunday that, it is part of our humidity. jim: police said the man seemed to know his way around the church, but nobody in the congregation recognized him. you might be able to tell from in his 20' s. police and the church say they' re considering extra

emily: new this morning, alarming new numbers about just how hard the opioid crisis is hitting another community. the eye' s erika tarantal is here with the details. erika: that new data startling even to police. lowell has now logged 42 fatal opioid overdoses this year. that' s about one every week and three just this past weekend. but that' s not the only alarming information released by lowell police last night. there were 69 overdoses last month. that' s the third straight month lowell has seen overdose increases. heroin and drugs known as opioids accounted for more than half of all overdoes in the city narcan use is also up in the city. all lowell school nurses have now been trained to use it. randy: brockton' s mayor wants to do something about hypodermic needles left around the city. the enterprise reports he' s starting an initiative after getting complaints about syringes in playgrounds and

parks. city employees have already been trained on how to properly dispose of the needles. emily: a medford police officer is resigning over this video, first uncovered by 5 investigates. the youtube video shows stephen lebert threatening to shoot a driver who was going to wrong -- the wrong way. lebert was off-duty on that july night. an internal review found lebert violated department policies. he had been on paid leave pending a disciplinary hearing that was scheduled for this thursday, tomorrow. the man convicted of killing a south boston grandmother will spend the rest of his life behind bars. today timothy kostka will be , formally sentenced to life without the possibility of parole. last week, a jury found him guilty of stabbing barbara coyne to death in 2012. prosecutors say kostka was committing break-ins to feed his drug addiction. randy: a new probe into a drug company under fire. emily: the investigation following a huge price hike. and a big surprise for a teacher fighting cancer. the support she' s getting this morning.

olessa: i live look in brockton, route 24 northbound by route 27. several cars involved in a crash now on the shoulder but delays will stay pretty heavy all the way up to 128 with a crash by the bridge blocking the lane so that volume is on the way back here in brockton. mike: we' re for gore to start of the day. lots of sunshine, temperatures relatively mild, 56 degrees. remember, this is october and up cooler temperatures in the forecast. by the weekend, by sunday, high temperature just 48 degrees. we did not even get that cold last night. maybe a few clouds and spreckels this afternoon. much more on that coming up. randy: a high school psychologist battling stage-4 metastatic breast cancer gets a heart-warming surprise. barbara bigelow was welcomed into a gym full of love by students and staff at oliver ames high school in easton yesterday. the 57-year-old says the cancer

my: we have clear skies and the clouds will come back this afternoon. but right now, temperatures in the 50' s. if you cooler spots like the norwood areas, with the temperatures drop off into the 40' s. still 60 at vineyard haven. nantucket, 62. great ways to start the day. it is going to be cooler. it is a slow process. we may see a few showers on friday. it will be cold enough this week and that by monday morning, we may be dealing with our first widespread freeze across the area. here' s the satellite. just beautiful out there. gorgeous start your day. we have a deck of clouds sitting out here. that will come in this afternoon. if you look carefully, you might see a sprinkle here or there. that is also in the forecast this afternoon, but i would say 99% of us will not see anything but a few clouds. there is the threat of a sprinkle out there. the main cold front has come through the westerly breeze. there is a weak front to the west.

behind it, you start to see the cooler air flowing in across very up. as it moves through, not looking for any rain, just a few clouds this afternoon. chillier temperatures start to move back into the forecast. today, a mix of sun and clouds, more sunshine this morning, more clouds is afternoon. 62 to 68. not as warm as the past few days with that westerly breeze out there. high temperatures, some of you may get close to the 70 degree mark, but probably not many of us will be quite that warm out there. we have the clouds coming in this afternoon, perhaps a sprinkle. not a big problem. it will be there to the evening commute. after that, the skies clear away another cool, refreshing evening. we will check on a traffic. a little bit of an issue to the south. olessa: thank you. this is brockton. 24 northbound, four cars involved in a crash, all on the shoulder not blocking any lanes by route 27. it will stay heavy from this point all the way up to 128.

watching another accident by the horse bridge, northbound crash with a lane blocked just before 128. delays back to brockton. traveling expressway north, 20 to 25 from braintree to boston. the pike is picking up volume as well, 35 minutes for 95 to 128. more delays on sunday three south out of methuen. randy: breaking overnight, a driver says he was shot at on the highway. emily: the eye' s sera congi is live in foxborough, where state police are investigating. sera? sera: state police are looking for the other vehicle involved in this incident, but luckily no , one was injured. this happened last i just before 11:00 in wrentham. a car headed southbound on 495, near exit 15 reported being shot at. state police say their preliminary investigation shows this was not a random shooting. they did in fact find evidence of the shooting on the car. they' re currently looking for

the other vehicle involved but did not provide a description of that yet. we checked in the state police and they say so far, no arrest. they' re still looking for the vehicle. we will bring you more updates throughout the morning. jim: police here in cambridge are looking for the man who committed a lewd act on the altar of this church. this happened a little over two weeks ago at the st. sava serbian orthodox church off alewife brook parkway. the man, in his twenties, walked in an unlocked door, put on priest vestments, walked around for about 45 minutes, then stripped down and performed the act before leaving. this was all caught on camera. they' re hoping releasing the video, at least the parts suitable for viewing, will help them find the suspect. erika: in the first prime time debate for the democrats running for president the two , frontrunners traded jabs but both urged voters to focus on policy. >> i would hope the mac and people see the difference
