heather: the trial of accused killer philip chism has been put on hold. chism is charged with the 2013 murder of his teacher, colleen newscenter 5' tells us the judge has ordered determine if he is fit to stand trial. frank: philip his own just yesterday -- philip chism just courtroom. he said he wishes someone would walk into the courtroom and kill him with a gun. he said he hears voices telling him not to trust his attorneys. he is accused of raping and murdering his teacher. today, he will undergo a more formal and thorough evaluation and observation. if prosecution -- the prosecution objecting to the move, accusing them of pretending to be mentally ill. the judge spent the morning trying to

find a right facility. his age and the need for high-level security are all concerns. heather: according to the court order, he will be hospitalized for a time not to exceed 20 days. ed: a hockey player charged on three charges of raping a child. he is accused of raping a child in the 1990' s. the victim told family members about the abuse, but the case was not reported until last year. richards pleaded not guilty and was released on $500 bail. he has been ordered not to give -- have any contact with the victim. heather: benjamin d have posse of wellesley was arrested last night. a search of the campus found nothing.

the request of syrian president bashar al-assad a longstanding russian ally. heather: now to the opioid crisis. governor baker unveiling a new bill today to help battle the states epidemic. this would limit first time opioid prescriptions to just a 72 hour supply and it would also involuntarily commit patients to drug treatment if they are deemed danger to themselves or others. governor baker: the days of people walking out of a dentist office or doctor' s office with 30 to 60 to 90 days worth of pain medication need to come to an end. i appreciate the fact that this is a controversial idea. but it is one that needs to be part of a larger conversation. heather: massachusetts has seen a stunning increase in opioid

related debts with public health officials estimating more than 1200 overdose deaths in 2014 alone. ed: how much can the governor' s bill change the course of addiction? janet wu sat down with a group who understands the tragedy and hardship first hand. janet: michael caine of two weeks after turning 24 years old. >> my son was, you know, supposed to be born and lived with a football in his hand, not a needle in his hand. janet: both cain and michael' s mother are recovering addicts themselves. they applaud governor baker' s bill, but have questions. >> you have a long, but can you enforce it? the only way to do that is with money. jenna: he is referring to doctors: -- involuntarily committing those who seem to be a danger to themselves or others.

heather: attorneys for former house speaker dennis hastert say he plans to plead guilty in a federal hush-money case. hastert allegedly withdrew millions of dollars to pay a man to keep quiet about decades-old allegations that he sex abused a high school student while he was a wrestling coach. he' s then accused of lying about it to the fbi.

today it was actually really close to normal. i do want to tell you that although i' m talking about cool weather this weekend, we will warm back up next week. 60 degrees is the dew point. that measures how much moisture is in the air. that is important in this forecast because we got a cold front coming in. more sprinkles coming in than anything else. still in the 60' s for the next 45 minutes or so. once the sunsets and temperatures will cool off, but not as much as the last couple of nights. here is why. whenever you have clear skies temperatures will drop fast, but we have a lot of clouds sitting to the west. here are the struggles i was talking about. tonight it will be sort of mother nature' s like it. it will be clouds and a bit warmer.

in a coma, lamar odom fighting for his life in a las vegas hospital, a source reportedly in the room with him telling espn the former los angeles lakers star is showing a small sign of improvement. the 35-year-old was rushed to the hospital on monday after employees at this brothel in nevada found him unconscious and called 911. odom spent four days at the brothel, there at times drinking, doing cocaine, taking an herbal viagra. the night before he was found, his mood was suddenly changed. >> he did get a phone call and it seemed to bum him out. he had told the girls he wanted to spend that night alone. ed: he is the father of two, most recently cut from the new york next after only three months and he has also split from his wife, khloe kardashian. their divorce was not finalized,
