around here. it is going to be a warm one on this thursday. 54 in boston. 52 in worcester. there is quite a bit of fog across the area. visibility worcester into boston running half a mile. above the fog, there are clouds. showers to our west. snow overnight in northern maine. we are ahead of a cold front. it is a mild wind that is going to push the temperatures up. quickly we jump to 60 degrees by late morning. we will be knocking on the door of that 70 degree mark through the afternoon. we will see breaks of sunshine after 3:00 this afternoon right through this evening. there will be the risk for a expecting anything widespread. but enjoy today. s once that front comes through tonight. cooler temperatures move in for tomorrow. s get you out to the roads now. the fog may slow people down. olessa: it is not the best morning.

antoinette antonio is in the city are with the repairs being made. antoinette: repairs to hundreds of cracks in boston' s big dig tunnels. the bill for those repairs keeps on growing. if you are concerned as you head out for your morning drive, dot officials say there is no immediate safety issue. but inspectors have found hundreds of faulty nuts on lighting fixtures. so far 878 damaged nuts have been discovered in the ted williams tunnel and another 49 nuts need to be replaced on the term by connector tunnel and the i-93 tunnel. tehes -- these nuts hold up lights. the support system ensures that the lights will not fall. that, however, was not the case four years ago when a corroded 100 pound light fixture fell in the tip o' neill tunnel.

all these light inspections are expected to be complete in november. but then it will take about another six months to make all of these repairs. no word on what the total bill for all those repairs will be. randy: on the opioid crisis. governor charlie baker is going to be meeting today with law enforcement and community leaders on a new opioid legislation in massachusetts as a crisis continues to grow. the department of public health estimates there were 683 mobile related deaths from january to june -- opiod related deaths. in total, there were more than 1000 opioid deaths in all of 2014, 60 3% increase from 2012. emily: 4:37. a tribute in member - -- in memory of a danvers high school teacher. randy: first of its kind research aimed at helping

notice we have got the fog in place for the next few hours. by 10:00 a.m., clouds breaking for a little bit of sunshine. closer to 70 as we get into the afternoon. it is going to be a mild day. you could see on the satellite, a lot of cloud cover. off to the west, there are some showers coming out of new york state. these are lining up ahead of a cold frontal boundary. notice it is a narrow band of showers. a lot of it is going to go into northern new england. ahead of this front, southwesterly winds are the story today. they are going to be gusting 20-30 miles per hour with sustained sinds 15-20 -- winds 15-20 throughout the day. boston, lawrence, national near 70 out in worcester. upper 60' s on cape cod. and average high this time of year now is just in the upper 50' s to near 60 degrees. as we get into the afternoon, that front may spawn one or two showers.

i think that is all we are going to be able to muster. better chance of seeing the showers as we get toward the evening hours. that overnight, we may gather some moisture. on cape cod for a couple of brief showers. the skies clear out overnight. winds turn a run to the west and its to bring in cooler air. by tomorrow morning, it is mostly in the 40' s as you' re heading out the door. we only recovered tomorrow into the lower 50' s. may not even get to 50 degrees in worcester. cooler air building and. still at high pressure. that will give us a good amount of sunshine both tomorrow and again saturday. set in morning, if you' ve got early soccer games, look at the temperatures -- saturday morning. lots of 30' s out there. a cold, frosty start on saturday morning. back into the low to mid 50' s saturday afternoon. it is the brighter of the two weekend days. more clouds sunday. another fast-moving front is approaching. at gillette, for our patriots taking on the jets, there is a risk of a shower.

we had a couple of days above the average. the average high now is just 59 degrees. it is the first time or average high has not reached $.60 the end of april. -- reached 60 since the end of april. peak conditions through a lot of central parts of new england and even down here into southern england, north and west of boston after worcester county, the merrimack valley, we are talking about peak conditions with the foliage and closer to the coastline we are starting to see a lot of color. we are watching off to the west, the cold front. this is pressing toward us with a gusty southwesterly wind. there is a river of -- a ribbon of showers associated with this. the most we will see is an evening shower. otherwise dry. starting off with clouds and fog. those will burn off for some breaks of sunshine. it is going to be breezy and warm, sneaking up into the lower 70' s today. big changes coming up tomorrow.
