this woman bought coffee for the next 20 people in line. she bought breakfast right couple at a restaurant. positive. she was a positive person and i can' t think of anything else that is more positive. reporter: she was 24 which she was raped and murdered at allegedly one of her freshman math students. philip chisholm has been charged with her murder. jury selection for the trial was postponed last week to determine if he' s confident to stand trial. >> knowing the burden of losing her is not just solely ours makes a little bit better. reporter: her friends are overwhelmed by the overwhelming response to their requests. danvers high school got in on the action. students and staff can find something good every day. those very words posted by ritzer to her twitter account less than a month before her death.

new this noon, cracking down on gun violence. boston mayor marty wash taking on the issue at a two day summit in newton. newscenter 5' s antoinette antonio with more. reporter: local religious leaders from all around the area are here in newton right now gathered to talk about the critical issue facing our country right now, gun violence. the end of her theological school is hosting this summit to highlight the issue of gun violence across the nation. today' s keynote speaker was boston mayor marty walsh. he told the audience that gun violence is one of the main things that keep them -- him up at night and he reminds the crowd that gun violence is chuck . -- is not just an urban issue this is happening in everyone' s backyard. >> it' s an american issue. when you think of you meta-people since 1968, nearly 2 million people have been killed in the u.s. by gun violence. that is a problem. >> the more we talked about it the more we recognize it is a public health issue, public

it impacts towns, communities, urban communities, world communities. it impacts everyone across the land in multiple ways. reporter: police commissioner bill evans are speaking on the panel today, discussing boston' s strategy to curb gun violence. this summit will continue through tomorrow. antoinette antonio, newscenter 5 . erika: the state is working to fix the problems discovered inside boston' s big dig tunnels. specifically, hundreds of cracked or deteriorated nuts on light fixtures. so far, 878 damaged nuts have been discovered in the ted williams tunnel. another 49 need to be replaced in the turnpike connector tunnel and the i-93 tunnel. they hold up lights weighing 100 to 130 pounds. but dot officials say the support system prevents the lights from falling, insisting this is not a safety concern. that was not the case 4 years

a student and a teacher died in the knife attack. it happened this morning inside the school cafe in the country' s second-largest city. the suspect, who may of been wearing a halloween costume, was shot and injured by police. no word on a boat if. -- on a boat if -- a motif ve. yet another st. louis-area church intetionally set on fire overnight. it' s the seventh in just 11 days. at least six of the buildings were predominantly black churches. and in each case, flames were set at an outside door when no one was in the building. the fires have yet to be officially connected. but police are offering a $9000 reward for information leading to an arrest. debris washing up on a beach in the bahamas may be from the sunken el faro cargo ship. it includes toiletries and part of a container. the freighter is believed to have sank in the atlantic after losing power during hurricane joaquin. its owner says crews have yet to positively link any of the debris to the el faro. 33 crew members were on board the ship including three with massachusetts ties.

we have touched the 70 degree mark and norwood. we will likely sink into the low 70' s and a lot of spots this afternoon. it will be breezy and warm and the shower threat mostly coming later this afternoon. afternoon. some shower start to develop in are few and far between. heavy. the exception may be down here cape. not too much happening but as this sits here it could grab more moisture. it will feed more moderate downpours in the could be a rumble of thunder down this way late tonight. things will clear up after midnight. winds turned to the west in cooler air starts to work in. clearing by morning. mid-30' s to mid 40' s downtown and tomorrow is a much cooler day. lots of sunshine but it will be on the breezy side.

the northwesterly wind will hold us in the 40' s out to the worcester hills. low 50' s the best we will be able to do elsewhere. a big difference from today. high pressure right on top of us. we will have lots of sunshine on friday. we will have sunshine must the day -- most of the day on saturday but another cold front is coming in it has more moisture with it. this will likely' s more showers in the second half of the weekend. saturday is looking like the brighter of the two weekend days. saturday morning, look at these temperatures. likely some frost on the soccer fields early on saturday morning. we will moderate the temperatures a it going into the low to mid 50' s on saturday afternoon. clouds thicken up saturday night . a lot of clouds on sunday and if you showers that should come through midmorning to mid afternoon in the crowd -- and then clear out of the area. even colder by early next week. today is the warmest of the next several days. likely you people get out of the upper 40' s by next week. it is fall after all.
