heather: we begin with breaking news, a stabbing outside of t station. phil: it has shut down the jackson square stop. >> a lot of police activity here as they continue to investigate. you can see the police officer here in front of the jackson square t stop. they are talking with witnesses. this all happened inside the doors of the t station just before 3:30 this afternoon. a 17-year-old was stabbed once. police say he has life-threatening injuries. this all started with a fight inside the stop. vilification happened just out of view of surveillance cameras. police say other angles give them a clear view of the suspect they are looking for. >> apparently, the two knew each other.

it was a fight off camera, the victim came back in view of the camera. he lifted up his shirt and apparently there was a wound. that is when he flew -- flat at one end and the suspect flute -- fled at the other. >> police believe the suspect you' re looking for is about the same age as the victim. he took off with a canine a little while ago behind the t stop, looking for clues. investigation is still going on. shuttle buses are never the investigation continues. phil: s big dig tunnels. hundreds of cracked or pictures. heather: officials say they have a plan to deal with this. >> this is an actual not from

harvey: it will not last long, but we still have a few more hours to enjoy this warm. 73 in boston, 74 in providence. all you have to do is look toward new york state and the great lakes. cooler air starts to arrive tonight and you will notice the difference tomorrow. as the cold front approaches, we are seeing a few mostly light showers across the north central mass and southern new hampshire. they may -- there could be a few heavier showers there later tonight. after that, it clears out and turns cooler and that will be the emphasis of tomorrow. while we were in the debt while we were in the low 70' s today, tomorrow around 50 degrees with sunshine. we will talk about some changes in the weekend forecast, coming up. phil: local activists continuing their protest of the new gas

a judge granted spectra energy permission to start digging the pipeline last month. several protesters were arrested at a similar demonstration several days ago. heather: two rhode island men being held without bail after being charged in connection with a road rage incident in massachusetts. prosecutors say justin smith and yomar romero had a loaded handgun in their car and the weapon was pointed at another driver on 95 yesterday afternoon. a state trooper who pulled over the car also found a box containing 28 rounds of ammunition and a halloween mask. the suspects are facing motor vehicle and firearms charges. the only man on new hampshire' s death row is seeking to have the u.s. supreme court overturned his sentence. michael addison was convicted in 2008 of gunning down officer michael briggs. another point of contention, the exclusion of statements by addison in which he cried and

>> this is believed to be the first american casualty in the fight against isis. the pentagon says all the hostages were rescued safely. heather: news from fenway park. phil: it is good news for red sox manager john barrow. >> i' m happy to report that s cancer is in remission. john farrell' s cancer is in remission. he went for posttreatment testing and received the results today. august 14 he was diagnosed with stage one notch hot -- non-hodgkin' s lymphoma and he started chemo treatment at massachusetts animal hospital and he released this statement a short time ago. i am extremely grateful.

i am also thankful for the talented doctors who cared for me in detroit and here at mass general hospital. i look forward to getting back to work and bringing another championship back to boston. red sox manager finished his chemotherapy treatment a short time ago. he was tested yesterday and told by doctors he is in remission. at the end of the season they said he will be the manager next year, provided he is healthy enough and this is one great piece of news heading toward. more on this coming up. heather: that is the best postseason piece of news i have heard. tragedy in sweden. a teacher and a student killed in a sort of attack. phil: what witnesses thought was first happening before they realized the actual horror. heather: a man and his dog attacked by a pair of pitbulls. both survived. the reason the victim says he survived. phil: the movement to keep her legacy alive.

>> you are watching newscenter 5 at 5:00. phil: a teacher and student in sweden are dead tonight after a masked man attacked them with a sword at school. two others were injured in the attack. some witnesses thought he would -- the suspect was performing a halloween prank. heather: there is a break tonight in the deadly case of road rage in new mexico. the victim was just a four-year-old girl.

police and albuquerque -- in albuquerque say an anonymous tip led them to the suspect, tony torrez. he has admitted to shooting and killing lilly garcia tuesday afternoon right after her dad picked her up her second day of school. >> she had this smile. brown eyes. you would see her and you would just smile. heather: police believe that her father and torrez kept cutting each other off before the shooting. harvey: 72 degrees. a live picture of boston. phil: warm stuff. harvey: it' s not going to last, but we know that. hopefully you have the chance to enjoy some of this work today.

there are a couple of scattered showers around. most of them are crossed -- are across north-central mass. they' re moving on to the east, but there are also a few developing down in southeastern mass in the area of plymouth and the cape cod canal. the idea is that we have these warm temperatures today. there is cooler air on the way, a front, so that is why a few showers broke out. the barometer is falling rapidly suggests a weather change and is a cold front on the way. current temperatures still very warm, beginning to cool off. in the boston area, it will be after midnight that we start to get that temperature drop. just a scattered shower is possible this evening, but later on, we will see the cooler north

it will be colder tomorrow morning that it was today, but the temperature is the desk the will not rise as much. we will have a decent amount of sun and it will be breezy out of the northwest. it will be at least 20 degrees chillier than the readings we have enjoyed this afternoon, so it will be a noticeable change, the cold air coming from the great lakes region. most showers look like they will stay around north of the pike. as we go through literal tonight, there is a little more instability down toward cape cod so when that nears that area later tonight, then a couple of showers could actually develop or redevelop and maybe even a few brief heavy downpours. after that, the skies clear and looks like it stays clear tomorrow night and saturday except one thing.

night, the wind turns a little more northeast. some clouds along the shoreline , but north and west of boston where it is clear early saturday morning, it may even be frosty cold. here' s a look at the next seven days. breezy and much cooler tomorrow. saturday will have a chilly start, especially true in those areas north and west of boston where you will see readings freezing or below, and in the temperature recovers to about the low 50' s or so for saturday afternoon with a mixture of sun and clouds. another front comes across the region on sunday, very weak, maybe a spot shower. better chance for a shower before the patriots game as opposed to before -- during or after. chillier weather for the first half of next week with signs of some windy and wet weather around wednesday night or thursday of next week.

phil: we now know just how the government secretly tracks our phone. officials from the justice department and homeland security testified about stingray machines. the devices mimic a company' s cell phone tower and trick your phone into connecting with it. police officers nationwide have been using them for years. they are designed to track cell phone locations but do not gather calls or information. lawmakers were concerned about the widespread use of the information and if they are used under judge issued warrants. there are still exceptions that do not higher warrant like time sensitive emergency situations. heather: city regulators tonight warning drivers in cars with those recalled your back
