>> yeah and that's what's paying news in america this morning in stay with us for "good morning america." have a great frida emily: good morning, it. randy: right now at 4:30, a deadly boston shooting under investigation in the brighton section of the city and the search for the suspect. emily: thousands of elderly people killed in a bus crash in france. why police say the death toll was so hard. randy: a police officers off the job -- the accusations of excessive force. emily: first, we want to get to cindy with a check of the forecast -- temperatures are on the way down. cindy: they are, indeed but the skies our clearing out.

offshore and to the way this boundary has pushed through, a big ridge of high pressure building down from the north. it will drive 10 cooler temperature. the readings are now or in the upper 40' s and lower 50' s. not bad to start, but as you look up to the north -- see how colder it is? that air will be working in today with a northerly wind. the temperatures are going to go nowhere. we are in the 60' s is morning and we hold in the lower 50' s. despite a lot of sunshine, augustine gusty breeze will make it hold. good morning, kevin. kevin: good morning. we started early on friday morning and see how the commute plays out -- so far, so good. overnight, workers had all lanes shut down a 93, but southbound is now moving well. northbound had shut down.

i did see a couple cars but it looks like that is all reopened. still a couple work crews out there, in the process of clearing out. the brighton tolls, further south crews are picking up. 128 in the process of picking up up toward route nine. overnight crews, that ramp to the mass pike is still sat down -- still shut down the willie reopened around 5:00 at the latest. looking good on all roadways. emily: breaking overnight, a -- also breaking in france, at least 40 people are dead following a collision between a bus and a truck. this happened near the city of bordeaux in the southwest part of the country around 7:30 a.m. local time. police say the bus, carrying mostly elderly people, went up in flames. breaking overnight, a violent scene in brighton.

a man found dead in the street. right now, boston police are searching for a killer. randy: the eye' s jim lokay is live in brighton with what we know at this hour. jim: police are hoping surveillance video holds the key, and there will likely be a lot of it in this very busy area off western avenue stop you can see what is left of the scene behind me. i want to show you the active scene -- police were called out here off western avenue, 124 tilford. they have reports of shots fired and a man in his 30' s was found on the pavement. we are told the shooter ran off. they have not been able to locate that shooter as of yet, but surveillance video will hopefully hold keys as they try to find him. new information all morning. emily: one person is dead and two students hurt after a shooting on a nashville campus. police say shots were fired after a dispute over a dice game there'

s no indication of an active shooter right now. so far, no arrests have been reported. randy: right now, a 17-year-old fighting for his life after he was stabbed at an orange line station. the police are searching for the suspect. they tell us it started as a fight inside the jackson square station in jamaica plain yesterday. the suspect and victim do know each other. emily: the owners of a saugus barber shop are trying to track down the thieves caught on camera stealing sports memorabilia. this is video, you saw first on five inside barber masters. owners say the thieves stole $6000 worth of autographed jerseys. they believe the culprits are familiar with the shop. randy: to pepperel now, where a police officer is off the job after alarming allegations. the eye' s frank holland is following developments in the town this morning. frank: that pepperell police sergeant has now resigned after being accused of beating up a prisoner here at the police department. all of this started with an internal investigation last

at that point, sergeant armando herrera was placed on administrative leave. that investigation just wrapped up and herrera voluntarily resigned from the force. he is in his early 50' s, an almost 30-year veteran of the department, and during his tenure, we' re told he received praise for his police work here in town. right now, the district attorney' s office is investigating. we' ll bring you new information as we get it. >> i don' t care what you say about me, it doesn' t bother me a bit. emily: hillary clinton defiant after 11 hours of intense questioning on the benghazi attacks. her message today -- it' s time to move forward. one big question, of course -- will that marathon grilling session impact her presidential hopes? the eye' s erika tarantal is tracking the fallout. erika: many political watchers agree the hearing is unlikely to change many minds on what has become a very partisan subject. the former secretary of state again took responsibility for what happened that night. four american'

randy: new this morning, an investigation is underway after a contractor was caught taking a selfie on the wing of a plane at logan airport. american airlines tells us it happened last night on a plane parked in a hangar. someone saw the contractor and called police, who took the man' s security badge and escorted him away. american is inspecting the plane to make sure it wasn' t damaged. no word on any charges. emily: brookline' s most wanted back behind bars. dino the cockatoo was on the loose for months. short for dinosaur, dino is named for the screeching sound he makes. but the bigger concern was he started pecking holes in brookline' s historical homes,

[laughter] cindy: our weather is pretty quiet, but this is a category five hurricane -- notice the wind is 200 bounds per hour and close to making landfall in mexico. take a look at the official forecast. patricia is likely going to maintain that strength as it slams into mexico later today and tonight. then the weekend could turn into a giant rainstorm.

around here, a bright friday, but it will be breezy and a whole lot cooler. no more 70' s around here for a while. we start north and west, the chance of a shower sunday morning. otherwise your weekend is looking dry. trying out this morning, east of nantucket clearing skies in the wake of the cold front. high pressure coming out of canada, and the flow around it bringing down that cooler air. you can see up in ottawa it is 39 degrees, 54 in boston. at cool air will be draining down over the course of the day. although we are in the low to mid 50' s from marshfield, that colder air is already working north and west. we are down to 47 and worcester, and look at your 12 hour forecast. 54 now but look at the temperatures over the next few hours. they go down, and it will be colder at lunchtime and it is right now in the city, even

it is all that northwesterly wind bringing in that cooler air. that wind will be very busy throughout the day. notice the sustained winds from 15-20 miles per hour. even with the sun out that busy breeze and temperatures holding will make it feel like the 40' s. out in worcester, highs may not climb out of the 40' s. it is a blustery one, but lots of sunshine today and clear skies overnight. temperatures will fall back, even into the 30' s in boston. our coldest temperatures will be subfreezing, north and west of boston. a little milder along the coast, mostly in the 40' s down on the south shore. you would cover to the low to mid 50' s on saturday, but a lot of sunshine coming up. high pressure starts on top of us but it slides eastward. we will watch this funnel boundary approach from the west saturday night and on into sunday, bringing about a chance of a couple showers. two dates -- saturday is

troops raided a compound in northern iraq and freed about 70 isis captives believed to be facing execution. the pentagon says a number of militants were killed and captured. the american death is the first since the u.s. launched its anti-isis campaign last year. emily: newscenter5 on the opioid crisis -- addicted, armed, and on active duty. one local soldier is sharing his story of substance abuse and recovery. brian tivnan says he patrolled the streets of baghdad during the surge in the iraq war high on opioids, everything from pain killers to heroin. tivnan has battled addiction much of his life, and when it duty, he wasn' t alone. when he returned home, he was in and out of treatment, and his addiction spiraled out of control. he was revived with narcan twice. >> one of the hardest things i have ever done in my life. i have done some pretty difficult things, but making the

that way is one of the scariest things you can think of. doing this helps another veteran sitting there with shame and guilt and anger at himself -- i will not tell people i have a problem because i' m supposed to be america' s best. that is all i want. emily: now, two years clean, tivnan does addiction outreach and speaks about the benefits of narcan. randy: topping economic headlines this morning, asian stocks skyrocketing in early trading today, that' s as the european central bank signals its considering more stimulus for its economy. stock futures are higher this morning, the dow gaining 320 points at yesterday' s close. emily: a multimillion dollar settlement is in the works between music streaming service pandora and several record labels. the agreement ends a dispute over royalties related to oldies music, recorded before 1972. pandora will pay out $90 million to record labels involved.

on the eye this morning. randy: oscar winning actress kate winslet has a message for hollywood. the 40-year-old says she will continue appearing in advertisements only if her body and face are not retouched. winslet says hollywood stars have a responsibility to the younger generation, which looks up to them. emily: a university in detroit is offering free medical degrees for some students. wayne state university announced yesterday it will pay for the complete education of 10 students each year seeking medical degrees. that' s a savings of about $251,000 for one student. the school says it wants to attract talented students from low-income backgrounds. randy: an elementary school principal making good on his bet. principal wells of woburn told his students he would dance to

dead in a bus crash in france. police say the bus collided with a truck near the southwest city of bordeaux. the bus was carrying mostly elderly people and went up in flames immediately following the crash. emily: also breaking, one person is dead after a shooting in brighton. police say it happened around last night on telford street. a man in his 30' s was found dead in the road. police are now searching for the shooter, who was seen running through a parking lot toward western avenue. randy: the search is on this man accused of raping a woman in a burlington, vermont courthouse. police say robert rosario assaulted the victim in a bathroom stall last friday. rosario has a lengthy criminal record in the burlington area. he' s been arrested before on drug and domestic violence charges. emily: smoking materials are to blame for this deadly fire in chicopee. an elderly woman and her son were killed sunday at their home

on montcalm street. investigators say someone carelessly disposed of smoking materials, which caused flames to spark. three others managed to escape. the home was destroyed. a big win for red sox manager john farrell. his cancer is in remission. the red sox say farrell' s post-treatment tests revealed the news yesterday. farrell was diagnosed with cancer in august and missed the last six weeks of the season. the sox say they look forward to having him back as manager next year. nesn broadcaster jerry remy will be back in the booth next season. the organization says it has re-signed remy as primary color analyst for the next two years. he' ll broadcast a minimum of 100 games max 120, and for some of the games, there will be three men in the booth instead of the usual two. randy: no snow in the forecast, but boston is trying to stay ahead of the winter. the public works department wants to find more snow farms that would help cut down on

massive snow piles like the ones that stacked up last winter. it was june before a mountain in south boston finally melted. emily: i hope we don' t need more snow farms. maybe we won' t get as many storms. cindy: 110.6 inches. let' s hope that doesn' t happen again, at least for a while. what a dramatic temperature change we have had over the past several days -- we started out in the upper 40' s and yesterday we were in the lower 70' s. we will be nearly as warm today thanks to this right here -- a cold front coming through overnight and a northwesterly wind pulling cooler air out of canada. high pressure is nosing in. the few clouds to the northwest may pass through but lots of sunshine today, just a whole lot cooler than it was yesterday.

this morning, no issues at all -- a cooler day. that northwesterly wind could gust higher, so temperatures will hold in the upper 40' s and lower 50' s. make sure you are dressed for it. a nice background of a blue sky. the foliage has passed peak through much of new england. peak conditions now through a good portion of central new england -- north and west of boston especially -- more and more near the coast line. it is that time of year when we can take in a lot of foliage. high-pressure drifting in on saturday and the only chance of rain comes in on sunday morning with the passing shower. we could really use the rain after a dry stretch early next week. looks like better chances of a windswept soaking rain could be coming in late wednesday and especially thursday. we will likely get in on some beneficial rainfall by the middle and end of next week.
