cindy fitzgibbon. cindy: we have had such an up and down week but i think we will settle down as we head into the weekend -- it will be a bright and sunny day and you can see the skies are clearing out in the wake of some rain showers that move through southeastern massachusetts. the front is no offshore and now colder air will be working in with a big area of high pressure. but temperatures this morning on so bad -- 45 out the door, 52 in boston. as you look to the north, you can see it is cooler, in 30' s. that is the air mass. temperatures start out in the lower 50' the 40' s by midday. even though the sun is out. temperatures will go down. wind at 10-15 making the readings in the 40' s and 50' s.

emily: we are following several breaking stories right now -- 42 people are dead after a collision between a tour bus and a truck near bordeaux. most of the victims are elderly tourists on a trip to the wine country. it wind up in flames after the crash which may have led to the high death toll. randy: breaking overnight, a violent scene. a man found dead in the street. emily: and right now, boston police are searching for a killer. the eye' s jim lokay is live in brighton with what we know at this hour. jim: the hope is that surveillance video nearby will hold the key and there will likely be a lot of us considering the area of what' s left of the scene. i want to show you what it looked like well police were investigating. reports of shots fired on tilford street, rate of western avenue. of 39-year-old man found dead in the street, a gunman found running. at this point they are still trying to get an idea of who the suspect may be.

no indication of any motive, but the key as they try to find the suspect in this latest shooting. emily: more breaking news -- one person dead and two people injured after a shooting on the tennessee state university campus in nashville. it started with a fight over a dice game. the others involved do attend is no threat on campus. randy: right now, a police officer is out of a job after some alarming allegations. let' s get right to the eye' s frank holland he' s following developments in pepperell this morning. frank: that pepperell police sergeant has now resigned after being accused of beating up a prisoner here at the police department. all of this started with an internal investigation last month. at that point, sergeant armando herrera was placed on administrative leave. that investigation just wrapped up and herrera voluntarily resigned from the force. he is in his early 50' s, an

almost 30-year veteran of the department, and during his tenure, we' re told he received praise for his police work here in town. right now, the district attorney' s office is investigating. at this point, no charges have been filed. we' ll bring you new information as we get it. randy: new this morning, an investigation is underway after a contractor was caught taking a selfie on the wing of a plane at logan airport. american airlines tells us it happened last night on a plane parked in a hangar. someone saw the contractor and man' s security badge and escorted him away. to make sure it wasn' t damaged. alexei really don' t care what bother me a bit. emily: hillary clinton defiant questioning on the benghazi attacks. s time to move forward. one big question, of course -- will that marathon grilling session impact her presidential hopes? the eye' s erika tarantal is tracking the fallout.

agree the hearing is unlikely to change many minds on what has become a very partisan subject. the former secretary of state again took responsibility for what happened that night. four american' s were killed, including winchester native glenn doherty. a lot of talk about a never before seen email clinton sent to her daughter, chelsea. she wrote, "two of our officers were killed in benghazi by an al qaeda-like group." but in the days after the attack, the obama administration said that it was a spontaneous protest over an anti-islamic video that grew violent. >> you tell the american people one thing, you tell your family and entirely different story. ex look, congressman, there was a lot of conflicting information that we were trying to make sense of. erika: republicans also demanded to know why the state department denied several requests for more security in the months before the attack. clinton said a number of requests were fulfilled, some were not. some of her testimony is not sitting well with glen doherty' s family. we' ll hear from them ahead in

emily? emily: paul ryan is in. the wisconsin republican says he will run for house speaker. he made that announcement last night after receiving support from three major caucuses within the gop. ryan had said he would only run if members agreed to back him. and today we' re expecting a big announcement from a democratic presidential candidate. lincoln chafee says he will address the future of his campaign. the former rhode island governor and u.s. senator tweeted yesterday that he' s looking women' s forum later this in the polls. randy: right now, a 17-year-old being stabbed in an mbta station. the police are hunting for the suspect right now. they tell us it started as a fight inside the jackson square station in jamaica plain. the suspect and victim do know each other. in vermont, the hunt is on right now for a man who allegedly raped a woman in a burlington courthouse. police say robert rosario

assaulted her in a bathroom stall last friday. rosario, who is from the bronx, has a lengthy criminal record in the burlington area. he' s been arrested before on drug and domestic violence charges. emily: it' s video you saw first on 5 -- thieves ripping prized possessions off the walls of a saugus barber shop. right now, the owners are trying to track them down. t random. the walls now bare at barber masters, where pricey sports memorabilia once hung. autographed jerseys, including those from tom brady, david ortiz, and paul pierce. owners say the thieves knew what they were after when they broke in, stealing a collection worth about $6000. they believe it' s someone who knows the shop. >> he definitely case the place. last week or the week before. somebody that we know -- not someone randomly off the street. emily: the owners want the public to come forward if they hear of anyone trying to unload sports memorabilia. randy: a big win for red sox

[laughter] cindy: i want to draw your attention to something -- i want to take you to the northeastern pacific. look at new mexico. just off the coast line, that is a massive hurricane. this is a category five, the strongest hurricane on record in the eastern north pacific. the winds are 200 miles per hour and it may strengthen as it makes landfall by midday today. fortunately this area isn' t usually populated, but this could be catastrophic in terms of damage. it will weaken as it moves over the land, and become a huge rainstorm.

it is something we are watching out in the pacific. pretty quiet -- a nice-looking day but breezy and a whole lot cooler. a frosty start coming up on saturday morning. the only chance will come in sunday morning, was just a couple showers. east of nantucket and moving away, a cold front coming through. high pressure building out of canada but the flow around it is drawing this cool air down. much of the north here -- temperatures are running in the 30' s but we are sitting at 52 in boston. that is the cooler air that will drain in. we have got 40' s north and west of town, so that cooler air is working in and it will continue throughout the day. we have bright sunshine today and a gusting northwest wind. if you look at the high temperatures, they are not going anywhere -- we are holding pretty steady and managing to hold mostly in the upper 40' s through worcester.

state are supporting the governor' s bill. it would allow medical professionals to hold patients for 72 hours if they are deemed a danger to themselves and others, and would limit opioids prescribed to first-time patients the plan has drawn criticism from several doctors. emily: addicted, armed, and on active duty. this morning, one local soldier is sharing his story of substance abuse and recovery. brian tivnan says he patrolled the streets of baghdad during the surge in the iraq war high on opioids, everything from pain killers to heroin. tivnan has battled addiction much of his life, and when it came to being addicted on active duty, he wasn' t alone. when he returned home, he was in and out of treatment, and his addiction spiraled out of control. he was revived with narcan twice. >> one of the hardest things i have ever done in my life. i have done some pretty difficult things, but making the

that way is one of the scariest things you can think of. doing this helps another shame and guilt and anger at himself, saying i' m not going to tell people i have a problem, i am supposed to be america' s that is what i want. emily: now, two years clean, tivnan does addiction outreach and speaks about the benefits of narcan. randy: topping economic headlines this morning, asian stocks skyrocketing in early trading today, that' s as the european central bank signals its considering more stimulus for its economy. stock futures are higher this morning, the dow gaining 320 points at yesterday' s close. twitter' s ceo is giving back to his employees. jack dorsey plans to give roughly 1/3 of his stock in the company to the employee equity pool. that amounts to about $200 million. that announcement comes a week after twitter announced mass layoffs. a multimillion dollar settlement is in the works between music
