our team coverage continues with meteorologist danielle, there is with. >> indeed. it's not just the rain but wind and coastal aspects. we're going to talk about the wind. we do have wind advisories in place beginning at 7:00 p.m. tonight until 10:00 tomorrow for the area you see in tan. expecting winds sustained at about 20 to 40 miles per hour. gusts to near 50 miles per hour. let show you what happens for the next 12 hours. notice these winds really ramp up. these are the sustained winds. remember, gusts will be stronger than that. in term of what we're seeing, medium risk for tree roots. low risk for trees and power outages and there is also the risk for coastal flooding. two high tides in mc. we're watching this along the south coast at 9:00. the other one coming at 1:00 a.m. along the east facing beaches.

about what's behind the storms. >> you can track the storms with the weather app and view our forecast wherever you go. >> run away blimp finally grounded hours after fighter jets were sent scrambling after it. live at the break news desk. >> it eventually grounded itself. this was the sight across maryland and into pennsylvania. a run away blimp almost as long as a football field. the helium filled balloon broke loose from its station at the aberdeen proving ground in maryland around 12:30. the blimp floated out of control about 60,000 feet high as two fighter jets were scrambled to track it. it eventually drifted into a sparsely populated area north of harrisburg traveling about 160 miles driving its tether, a

that tether eventually causing the most damage. knocking down power lines along its path. the company, local utility company, reporting some 20,000 customers were left without power. the 175 -- blimp was invented by rayon and it's the kind used extensively in iraq and afghanistan wars to provide surveillance around sensitive sites. at this point it's still unclear how it broke loose. wcvb, newscenter 5. >> the system failed her. a new report tonight says dcf didn't do enough to protect bella, toddler known for months only as baby dough. here's more from boston with more on the report just released this afternoon. >> it was -- it goes back to 2012-2013. in both those years they actually checked on baby bella and her situation after there were reports of neglect. but they fumbled the ball and then dropped it in the end because they apparently listened to what the mother was saying

and never checked it out. >> dcf was aware that the mother had her parental rights terminated for two other children. the last termination was more than 10 years before the birth of bella. >> bella bond, the office of the child advocate found the system and individuals both failed the little girl. >> it is clear the department of children and families should have not closed the case in 2013. >> baby bella's body was discovered on deer land in june. police have charged rochelle bond and her boyfriend. he's charged with murder. the child advocate found when dcf closed the bond case, bella was put at risk. >> whenll of the state support natural sort of ended, that she was not able to handle the stresses of her life and then reverted to the situation that

ultimately led to bella's death. >> when other high-profile failures forced reviews of cases involving children under 5, bond family was included. case and used old information concerns. >> it was a question of days, literally, timing. investigation, another report, question. in newscenter 5. >> right now police in several towns are searching for suspects in a string of b.b. gun attacks. businesses and motorists were targeted. three businesses along route 53 in nor well were hit with b.b. or pellet gun rounds. several stores were damaged. a woman driving in hanover was shot at. >> suddenly i heard a big bang and felt a sting. i looked and my window was

it occurred to me that i had just been shot. >> all three businesses were unoccupied at the time of the attacks. >> the worcester boy hit by a car after being let off a school bus alone has been released from the hospital. action has been taken against the bus driver. rhondella is live at the bus stop where it all happened. >> the driver off the job, the mom told police that the 5-year-old's older sister usually helps her to cross the street. but there was this communication breakdown and the 35-year-old was hit by a car. >> he had a welt on his head like something i had never seen. real big for a little kid. >> she and a woman driving by tried to help the 5-year-old laying in the street hit bay car. >> he was bleeding from under his chin but nothing severe. i was mostly concerned with the way he was laying. i didn't know if anything was broken? >> the boy had minor head trauma. the school bus driver dropped him off at the bus stop even

to pick him up. that's against policy. >> my first question was why was he let off the bus? he's a kindergartener. >> they suspended the driver who told him, he assumed an adult at the stop was a parent. >> unfortunately it's a lesson that we need to take extra precautions. >> the boy's injuries put a real scare in the good samaritan. >> one shoe was under the car. he had one shoe off. the head wound was about the size of a softball. >> can you open your eyes? he did open his eyes. >> once they put him in the ambulance and he was leaving by himself, that's when my heart broke and i started crying because he's baby and he's by himself. >> everyone relieved the child will be okay. the school says even though a policy was not followed they are reviewing their policy with police to see if anything more should be done. live in worcester, rhondella richardson, wcvb, newscenter 5. >> a college student is accused of sexually assaulted another student in one of the school's

dorms. the male student whose name has not been released allegedly approached a student and acted manner. the two did flow each other. among the charges filed, indecent assault and battery and amphetamines. the man accused of assaulting a student at an elite prep school is hoping for probation over prison when he's sentenced. the lawyer for the 20-year-old says his client has already been punished. he faces up to 11 years behind bars for using a computer to lur 15 year old girl to a sexual encounter just days before he graduated. he also will be required to register as a sex offender for life. >> investigators tonight are working to determine what sparked this three alarm blaze in lind that leaves dozens homeless. the flames spread through the apartment building. firefighters rescued one man by leader. everyone else managed to get out

next couple of hours. and there will be breaks when it doesn't rain so hard but there will be other bands of very heavy tropical downpours that will be on the way as well. this is our high resolution model that focuses on our region showing the heavier downpours moving in around 8:30 tonight. a few more coming through. localized flooding could happen during that. then you see times where it's not raining as hard but when you see these small cells chris some thunderstorms in the wee hours commute. with the possibility that there could be a line of storms and that could produce some damaging wind gusts fili forms. even though it's a little unusual, it's late october, early in the morning but there atmosphere to potentially support this. we could have wind gusts tonight, first half, 2/3 of the night, independent of this, but then there could be some strong winds with this line of storms. that moves to the cape by about start to improve and then we'll in for a treatment some brightening

winds start to pick up again, but this time, ought of the southwest bringing the mild and drier air our way. it looks nice for the patriots game. it will be cooling down from the incredible warmth of tomorrow and the winds could still be this is a possibility. we're talking about one to two inch rainfalls widespread but higher. very hard for any particular model to really zero in on where but the idea is, some areas could get even more than that. so we'll be watching for that and that's where you get some localized street flooding. look at the wind gusts starting to pick up. 33 miles per hour. >> we have the potential of getting 40 to 50 mile per hour gusts. that's why there is waned advisory for tonight and it continues until 10 tomorrow we get that line of storms that could have damaging winds tomorrow morning, and cindy will be here opener. that's an extra important show tomorrow morning in case any severe weather is happening at that time. >> here's some of the wind gusts. sometimes a little overdone on the model but the idea is that we could exceed 40 miles per

hour and then it's still breathed to windy during the day but not as strong as the potential for tonight and early tomorrow. coastal flood advisory, not major situation but splashes over and marcy boulevard will take on water. it's 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. is the coastal flood advisory that we're talking about. actually that one already took place but this one down here, this one is for this evening and they have added another one for tonight. the 1:00 a.m. high tide. 11:00 p.m. tonight until 3:00 a.m. tomorrow. watch the east facing coastal areas. temperatures are still in the 40s and 50s but now into the low 60s to the south. very warm to the south and temperatures will be rising tonight, and it will be very tropical. late tonight and early tomorrow and that's how we have the potential of getting a few strong storms before the drier and warm air takes over so we can enjoy midday afternoon hours of tomorrow. might be close to a record tomorrow. the record, i don't think, will be made, 79.
