that is eased boston. you can see that rain across the camera. there are power problem starting to pop up in the national is starting to report 3000 outages. randy: good morning. >> the trees still have a lot of leaves on them so the wind is blowing them off. cindy: if they are grabbing the trees, they are falling on the ground. emily: that' s a lot of leaves on the roads. olessa: lots to follow this morning. let' s start you off with rain and heavy downpours over boston. to the south, there are lightning strikes. these are thunderstorms and of these hold together, they will move into southeastern

we have had a flash flood warning from seven 30 a.m. this morning. the rain comes down so hard. the other element with the rain is it will be moving through. if we get into a thunderstorm, there is the potential to drag that strong wind down and we could see gusts up to 50 miles per hour. there is a lot of warm air out the door, mid to upper 60' s now. we will pick in the lower 70' s as clouds break for sunshine. the rain is pushing offshore and we will dry things out into the afternoon. let' s look at where the strongest storms are.

mike: there are some pretty good downpours. you will see them shortly. this is bubbling up from the south. as we look to the north shore, we have not seen a lot going on but we are starting to see those areas to the south lifting to the north. we are still seeing a good storm cell around the city of boston. you can see some will be moving into the area of the cape in the next 20 minutes. lots of things are slowing things on the roadways. erika: it does olessa: it does not look pretty. the expressway has been busy all morning. where watching a crash on the

another accident south of their on the braintree split. a new crash coming in as you travel 24 northbound approaching 128 and 95 northbound. another accident for 95 north with an overturned car and some problems eastbound. randy: right now a man is under arrest. just a few words got him hauled off a flight at logan. emily: the eye' s frank holland is tracking developments live from east boston. frank: that man has been identified as 55-year-old dennis he' s expected to face a judge later today. police say campbell was on a united airlines flight from boston to chicago last night. just before take-off, he allegedly made a comment about having a bomb in his bag. state police were called and quickly removed him from the plane but they didn' t find a bomb. the flight took off without campbell about an hour later. campbell was held on $250 bail, his arraignment later today in

live in boston, frank holland, wcvb. randy: breaking overnight, boston police are investigating a fight at a bar that landed a man in the hospital with slash wounds. according to boston ems, it happened either inside or outside the bell in hand bar on hanover street in the city' s north end. one person was taken to mass general with slash wounds to the neck but he' s expected to be ok. another man suffered minor injuries. emily: new this morning, a dzokhar tsarnaev' s pre-trial confinement at devens. newly unsealed court documents show the fbi screened all his calls, he was barred any contact with media and cut off from communicating with other inmates. right now, tsarnaev is being held in solitary confinement at the nation' s toughest federal prison in colorado. his lawyer is trying to prevent prosecutors from getting prison records about his current arrangements, saying its needed to prepare his appeal. prosecutors say the defense is not entitled to the same protections now that tsarnaev

the peak wind gusts overnight, warwick, rhode island, 63 miles per hour. we are getting a gust of 40 around plymouth. through the next couple of hours especially we see a thunderstorm, the downpours pull down some wind. the potential is there for a few more wind gusts at 50 miles per hour through 10:00 this morning. it' s a southerly wind pulling up a lot of warm tropical air. these are the remnants of a hurricane so there is a tropical feel as you step out the door. it' s in the mid to upper 60' s. we were 70 in the last hour in boston. the rain has cool things off and we had a downpour moved through the city. it is toward gloucester and you can see how it' s going north. these rain patches are moving about 50 miles per hour.

we are starting to see lightning strikes toward martha' s vineyard. we are looking at the rainfall rates over when and per hour when you get into the heaviest downpours. flooding rains and more heavy rain and lightning. by 8:30 a.m., the bulk of the rain is shifting offshore. we will dry it out this afternoon with clouds breaking for some sunshine and the temperatures will respond into the low 70' s this afternoon. we got pockets of heavy downpours out there' s a let' s take a closer look at the radar. mike: typically, we watched showers and thunderstorms that come through at 30 miles per hour but these are faster. they move over areas so quickly and the tracking is difficult at times. on the north shore, not a lot of rain but we are getting downpours now. a lot of it is pushing offshore

the focus is the southeastern part of the cape. that' s where i see the strongest downpours this morning. that will push in and about 13 minutes. we' ve got all this lightning sitting offshore. that is aiming its way toward the cape. these are just so fast-moving, you have to be prepared. in minutes. cindy: tonight at gillette, the rain will be over and the gusty breeze will dry us out and about 60 degrees and back down to the 40' s later tonight. it will be a cooler day tomorrow with highs only in the mid to upper 50' s. sunshine will return in the wake of this frontal boundary and a shift to the northwest will ring

we are still watching the jackknifed tractor-trailer on 495 south. an accident is clearing by spring street and 93 south from wilmington to the connector but the trains and buses are on schedule. randy: right now investigators are trying to figure out how a military blimp broke loose in maryland and landed in pennsylvania. the high tech blimp was developed and built by waltham based raytheon, part of a multi billion dollar military program. the unmanned balloon flew for hours yesterday, carrying highly sensitive equipment and knocking into trees and power lines. emily: right now, renewed calls for change after a new report documents the fatal errors in the bella bond case. an independent investigator finding that state social workers failed the little girl when they closed her case in 2013. police have charged her mother rachelle bond and her boyfriend michael mccarthy with bella' s murder and cover-up. governor charlie baker says many people dropped the ball and the report confirms there needs to be a major overhaul with the department. but the report finds the agency

death. randy: new this morning, boston city councilors are getting a 14% pay raise. the city council voted to give itself the raise, ending a bitter yearlong debate. the $12,000 pay raise was proposed by mayor walsh, who says it' s a compromise after councilors proposed pay hikes more than twice what the mayor suggested. the measure, which takes effect in january, will also increase the mayor' s pay. a purdue university football player went out of his way for a happy birthday for a little girl he has never seen. emily: the kind gesture that left her mother speechless. erika: then new at 6:30 - the fight over the fantasy sports industry, is about to take a new turn, the meeting today, that could lead to new rules. and a brockton mother, accused of attacking a teenager, the scuffle involving her daughter. emily: the rain and wind will keep up for a few more hours.

randy: i got to take part in this great event last night with the mspca helping animals in need, with a few animals on i posted a picture on my facebook page with a pig in the audience. the farm animals were very well behaved. show. cindy: we' ve got the heaviest rain right now focusing on southeastern massachusetts. the downpours are exiting the north shore and look at the lightning strikes toward martha' s vineyard in the past 30 minutes. you can see the storm cells are lifting through southeastern massachusetts and they will wind down after 8:00 this morning. the impact is through 8:30 a.m. and we will dry out this afternoon.

lower 70' sunshine this afternoon and cooler but dry into the weekend. randy: olessa is back with eyepoppers. olessa: a good deed gone viral. a purdue football player made a little girl' s birthday wish come true with a very special gift. tario fuller just happened to overhear 2-year-old kinley making her birthday wishlist at a target. so he decided to buy the little girl her princess dolly. kinley' s mom is hoping he will inspire others to be kind as well. randy: she is very happy. that' s certainly true for this arkansas man. he' s been saving pennies for more than 45 years. he says he would always opt to break a dollar before spending a penny and yesterday, he cashed them all in for a whopping $5,136.14. good savings account. emily: last year' s terrible winter has people already bracing for the return of snow and cold ,important moves to make now, to prevent damage later. it' s ahead.

and a shark attack survivor is now getting help in boston, his first thought, when he realized he' d been bitten. announcer: this is an editorial -- >> there have been a number of news reports in the rapidly growing use of unmanned aircraft systems or drones in the united states. it' s at an all-time high with industry estimates of 500,000 drones flying in u.s. airspace for recreation and limited commercial use. walmart just joined amazon and google asking the federal aviation administration for permission to test drones for deliveries and other business purposes. in the eyes of many drowned hobbyists and entrepreneurs, the sky is the limit for aerial photography to drone racing and the delivery of emergency supplies to the delivery of that must have right now consumer product.

there are some power outages, up to 5000 of them. cindy: good morning, we have had heavy downpours coming to boston over the past hour. at the moment, light rain with downpours around gloucester but the focus of the heaviest rain is in southeastern massachusetts and just offshore of moving toward the vineyard. we have a lot of lightning strikes. the bulk of its moving from martha' s vineyard toward nantucket but they should creep up to the outer cape. these cells are racing toward the northeast at about 50-60 miles per hour. if it starts down pouring in your area, it will come down hard but will not last long. wind gusts are 36 miles per hour in plymouth. we could see some wind gusts from the heaviest downpours up

the battle over a fantasy sports websites is about to hit a new level. randy: antoinette antonio is in boston with a hearing that could bring big changes. >> this is the massachusetts gaming commission' s regularly scheduled meeting and they are expected to take up the controversial issue of those fantasy sports websites. that includes draft kings. which is based in boston. the gaming commission will look at a few key issues like whether fantasy sports are legal and should the industry be regulated and who should regulate it and what issues regulations should address. governor baker says his concern is about protecting the players. >> if people are going to represent a game of skill, needs to be a game of skill and that means in nice to be transparent and consumers need to be protected and the rules need to be understood. >> the attorney general is also reviewing the fantasy sports

cindy: we have seen these downpours come through quickly with a huge amount of rain with a lot of ponding on the road. the heaviest cluster of downpours has embedded thunder moving across southeastern massachusetts. this will exit between 8:00-nine :00 this morning and dry this afternoon with sunshine and into the low 70' s, cooler and breezy tomorrow but sunshine into halloween. emily: thank you. after the less painful historic winter, getting ready this year is a big priority and we are putting the focus on your home. we had a local handyman show us the spots to check. >> first of all, the leaves are on the ground, get them out of the gutters. emily: and while you' re up there, check for any loose shingles or damage to the roof. larry luddecke says you also want to make sure your attic is properly vented. >> if the attic is cool, you' ll have less ice dams because the heat of the house isn' t melting

we have had repeated elements of heavy downpours fill up areas that cannot handle the water. poor drainage areas are experiencing flooding. the wins coming out. not too much act 70 so the focus -- not to much activities to the focus of the rain is in southeastern massachusetts. it will shift offshore by 8:30 a.m. into the afternoon, the clouds will break for some sunshine. the storm will exit southeastern massachusetts so watch out for leaf clogged drains and the wins will diminish this afternoon. we are seeing some gusts in southeastern massachusetts where we have the downpours. the wind is about 36 miles per hour and there could be some

the wind advisory continues through 10:00 a.m. these are the remnants of what was hurricane patricia. the temperatures are in the low to mid 60' s this morning. we are still dealing with elements of heavy rain in some areas. mike: there have been some tremendous downpours out there but they last only a short time. it moves through an we don' t see a lot of flooding issues. we have had some wind damage. on radar, a lot of it has pushed off the north shore. in the city, we had downpours a few minutes ago but one little hand of showers is out there on 128 that will track toward the city. the heaviest stuff is in the
