in beijing alone. jc: investigators are still trying to figure out how this military blimp broke a loose yesterday. it spent hours in the air floating from maryland to pennsylvania. it could take weeks to remove the blimp from the hard to access area. reporter: today investigators are trying to figure out how this happened. this 175 million dollar, top-secret military surveillance blimp, ripping free from a military base in aberdeen, maryland yesterday afternoon. the 240-foot, unmanned balloon floating at about 50 miles an hour. >> it' s going down. reporter: dragging a 6600 foot metal cable behind it, knocking out power lines. >> it knocked out our power at school. reporter: the helium-filled

blimp crossing over neighborhoods. >> that thing is enormous. reporter military officials : unable to stop it . >> there' s supposed to be a switch that somebody on the ground, in an emergency can flip, that will do an emergency deflation and bring it down. in this case, they tried that switch but it didn' t work. reporter: the blimp, equipped with high-tech radars, able to search an area the size of texas for incoming missiles and aircraft is part of a nearly 3 billion dollar system to defend the nation' s capital. >> the concern within the pentagon was not only where does it come down, but they need to keep people away from that technology because it is so sensitive that they don' t want anybody who shouldn' t see it, to see it. reporter after four hours the : balloon was finally snagged by trees, and deflated in moreland township pennsylvania. though experts say wind was likely a major factor in this blimp breaking free, military officials are offering no explanation. phil: a terrifying encounter along a hawaiian beach. jc: a young boy' s run-in with a shark.

phil: worries about explosions and fires were not enough to put an ban on shipments of re-chargeable batteries on passenger planes. a u.n. aviation panel voted against recommending new restrictions. faa test have shown some of the batteries can cause explosions

v.p. for retail and online stores. she takes home more than $73 million a year, according to equilar, a firm that tracks executive compensation. rounding out the top 5 are the ceo' s of oracle, yahoo, united therapeutics and the chief creative officer of kate spade. phil: a 10-year-old boy hospitalized tonight after being attacked by a shark. it happened yesterday along a beach in oahu, hawaii. the boy was body-boarding about 60 yards from shore when he started yelling. lifeguards and witnesses jumped in to help pulling the boy back to shore. >> we paddled over to him and looked on his leg. we saw some significant gashes. everybody remained calm. the kid was calm and coherent the whole time. but it was a significant byte to his leg. phil the boy is in serious : condition but will make a full recovery. the incident marks the 7th shark attack in hawaii this year and the third in oahu just this month. jc: check out this incredible image from space. nasa releasing this photo showing the historic flooding that hit south carolina earlier this month. portions of the state devastated by heavy rain and flooding

thanks in large part to hurricane joaquin. at least 15 people were killed and experts fear damage will be in the billions of dollars. again, this wasn' t even a direct hit. this was remnants of the hurricane. harvey: there was that stalled front offshore. they would have had a ton of but the tropical connection made it incredible. phil: the changes we have here. when i was coming into work, i stopped a minute before i opened the door. harvey: i think everybody was walking around this afternoon like -- jc: was going on? harvey: they were saying different things when the wind was howling last night. in rhode island, it gusted over 60. rockport, also gusted between 45-50.

late october day. a fair amount of sun and cloudiness for late morning. nice and clear around the region tonight. if you look carefully, a little but of cloudiness around late morning. that is the approach of the reinforcing chilly air. it makes a colder tamara night and a little cooler on saturday. it becomes completely clear for friday and saturday. for trick-or-treating, nice and sunday. -- sunny. the temperature may not fall to quickly saturday evening, which is good news. if we get any showers this weekend, there might be a couple sunday morning. i think a lot will pass to the north. it looks more like cloudiness as opposed to showers on sunday. here we go. tomorrow, a typical fall like today. as far as trick or treating is concerned, keep in mind there will not be a lot of wind or any wet weather. probably around 50 late afternoon to about 44 late evening temperatures.
