north of town from their hampshire, getting by at the speed limit. start on schedule. emily: breaking overnight, congress has approved an ambitious budget and debt deal to avoid what could have been a catastrophic default. the deal raises the debt ceiling for the federal government for 2017. it passed in the senate just hours ago, with a 64-35 vote. right now, students at a lowell school are preparing to head back to class a day after dozens were sickened. this morning, the school is still trying to figure out what sparked sudden headaches and nausea. cleaning crews were busy late last night, scrubbing and sanitizing sullivan middle school, where about 60 kids got sick. 5 needed to go to the hospital. randy: the patriots remain undefeated this morning. touchdown after touchdown for tom brady last night at gillette stadium. four touchdowns in total against the miami dolphins. and right now, the pats are officially the best team in the league. emily: sportscenter5' s bob

emily: the patriots may be undefeated, but they' re one of five unbeaten teams in the league. and that' s the topic of today' s now poll. do you think they' re actually the best in the league? most of you are saying yes. add your voice on our wcvb facebook page. randy: right now, this man is behind bars, charged in a violent attack on an older couple in rhode island. the couple, both in their 70' s, found beaten in the middle of the street. the eyeopener' s frank holland is live in providence, where the suspect faces a judge today. frank: police say it started when the couple ran out of gas. and the attack was gruesome. the suspect, 25-year-old viden chhoeun is accused of hitting the couple in the face, head and upper body with a metal baseball bat. police say he attacked the pair wednesday night at the corner of linwood avenue and cranston street. that' s where the husband ran out of gas. his wife met him there to help. moments later, police say

chhoeun ran out of a house, started yelling and attacking the man. when the wife tried to help he , attacked her. she was found unconscious her husband' s eyes were swollen shut and he couldn' t speak. >> this is despicable, what has happened to these elderly people. frank: the man is in critical condition, the woman in serious condition this morning. we' ll keep you updated on new developments all day long. in providence, frank holland, wcvb newscenter 5. emily: new developments in the case of bella bond the toddler whose body was found on deer island. there may be new fallout on the way. the eye' s erika tarantal is here with the move the governor is considering. erika: it could include serious discipline for the social worker who evaluated the case. dcf will scrutinize the previous work of that employee, who could be fired.

a report released showed the woman copied information when evaluating the woman in 2012 and 2000 teen -- and 2013, from an evaluation six years before that. the report blamed faulty information for the closing of the case. a spokesman said a full report of the case will shed light on whether discipline is warranted and at what levels. randy: the mbta is boosting security at its stations, following this deadly attack on a teenager last week. 17-year-old mason raymond was stabbed to death at the jackson square stop, during a fight with another teen. state transportation secretary stephanie pollack tells herald radio she wants more officers to be visible on both trains, and station platforms. sentencing handed down in a new hampshire trial that captured

senator judd gregg. randy: the new house speaker plans to wipe the slate clean. congressman paul ryan says he hopes to heal divides within the republican party. former massachusetts governor mitt romney, who picked ryan as his running mate in 2012, was there to watch ryan be sworn in outgoing speaker john boehner' last day on capitol hill is saturday. emily: 5 on the opioid crisis, there are new plans for a vacant building in new hampshire that was once home to a well-known business. c.a. hoitt furniture in downtown manchester closed years ago. the building was sold to developers who want to transform it into a recovery center for addicts. the building is 37,000 square feet, and will offer temporary housing as well as recovery services through local non-profits. >> i love the feeling of this

building. it is amazing. having the upper two floors to expand some affordable housing. emily: the building is near the police station and a hospital. the hope is to get the recovery center open in the next few months. randy: word that a u.s. interest rate hike can' t be ruled out this year sent asian stock tumbling overnight. as for u.s. stocks, futures are higher this morning following yesterday' s losses. the dow dropped 23 points to close at 17,755. emily: retailers are gearing up for the holiday shopping season. wal-mart kicks off its holiday sales starting sunday. the retailer is set to offer major discounts on toys and electronics in stores, and nearly 15% more rollbacks online than last season. target hasn' t announced sales yet, but will roll out its holiday decor to get shoppers in the holiday mindset. if you' re a time warner customer, that cable box might soon be a thing of the past. the company is testing a cable service that delivers cable channels through streaming. the tests are happening in new york. more and more people are saying

no to cable services and instead subscribing to streaming services like netflix and hulu. time warner currently has a roku or xbox option for subscribers. it' s only use is to replace a second cable box. this morning. randy: a facebook post about police in arizona goes viral. steven hildreth was pulled over by tucson police in the middle of the night, for a missing headlight. he has a concealed carry permit and was carrying a gun. he told the officers and they responded they would need to disarm him. they complimented the way he handled it and let him off with a warning. hildreth says he wanted to share the interaction, and posted a message on facebook that gained national attention. >> there are those that abuse the power of the badge that should not be law enforcement officers. we focus so much on them that we

job and our regular people. randy: the police department thanked hildreth for the post, and shared it. emily: the national guard transporting some precious cargo in new mexico. the transport contained the skull and bones of a baby dinosaur, more specifically, a pentaceratops. researchers discovered the bones four years ago, and spent that time arranging permits to excavate and airlift them. this is the first known discovery of a baby dinosaur of that species. randy: an engagement photo shoot unlike any other in minneapolis. a couple photo-bombed by their dog. you can see he' s clearly not camera shy. their dachshund, louie, to steal the show. photo, but they say it' s the imperfections that make those special memories. a patriots favorite, looking forward to winter. emily: the new ad featuring gronk' s appreciation for snow. then new on the eyeopener at 5:00. a scramble in waco, texas.

emily: time for your early news to go. randy: a rhode island man is in court today accused in the violent beating of an elderly couple. police say viden chhoeun attacked the couple wednesday night, as they were trying to put gas in their broken down car. he' s accused of hitting them in the head and upper body with a metal baseball bat, knocking the wife unconscious. emily: a fired millis police officer, accused in a hoax, heads back to court today for a probable cause hearing. officer bryan johnson pleaded not guilty last month, after prosecutors say he fired into

then lied about being shot at. he then crashed his cruiser. the september 2 hoax sparked a manhunt for suspects in several surrounding towns. randy: the faa is trying to figure out why fuel was pouring from a plane' s engine sparking this fire in florida. the dynamic airlines jet was getting ready to take off to venezuela yesterday, when a pilot on another flight spotted this happening. passengers were evacuated with just a few minutes to spare. more than 20 people were injured, including one seriously. a driver in this violent wreck is suffering serious injuries this morning. state police say the volvo was clipped by a kia as both were heading north on route 1 in wrentham yesterday. that forced the volvo to cross the highway and slam head-on is into a tractor trailer. no charges have been filed. emily: three members of a yarmouth family are charged with running a heroin ring out of

their home. police say they found drugs and paraphernalia in the home of 19-year-old noelle johnson and her parents, michael and lisa. a homeless sex offender is charged in a frightening home invasion. peter bardzick is charged with breaking into an andover home in july and tying-up the 16-year-old girl inside. police say he stole money and took off. bardzick is accused of breaking into another home later that night. he' s a level-three sex offender and is already being held on other charges. randy: a bag of human bones, discovered at a cemetery in ludlow. dpw employees were working on an expansion at island pond cemetery when the bones were found. investigators say the plastic bag was buried on purpose. it included bones from an adult who had a leg amputated, most likely decades ago. serious criminal activity is not suspected. police will work with the medical examiner to try and identify who the bones came
