underwater off the bahamas. jc: it was lost at seen when a hurricane hit. let's go to ed harding with the latest. reporter: sonar indicated the ship landed upright which could help crews recover the data recorder or as you know the black box in more familiar terms. the el faro that stands for "the beacon" was headed to pew puerto rico when it went missing. 32 crew members and three with ties to massachusetts were lost. a u.s. navy ship salvage team sent high-tech sonar equipment three miles under water to inspect the wreckage. >> they will attempt to determine whether the cargo shifted and fell before the ship rolled over. if the cargo shifted, that indicates the ship likely rolled over and sank. they will be looking for cracks in the hull and trying to determine whether they can find what they call the black box. phil: that box could contain

even though they were wearing masks, surveillance videos clearly showed their cars. an apology from one of the 18-year-olds charged with a crime as he leaves court this afternoon. no comment from the other suspect. in court cameron and daughter rick faced -- and derrick faced a judge after they vandalized the burlington islamic center spraying "usa" on all sides of the building. >> they had been drinking. it was halloween. you can put the numbers together. reporter: the video didn't show the crime itself, but the white crown victoria police say they were driving was clearly visible and an alert officer noticed a a spotlight on that car that he had seen before in town. >> one of the officers was watching it and saw the car and saw something particular on the vehicle to raise his attention to it. he thought it could be a vehicle he knew from town. reporter: police went to the home and made the arrest and the teens con -- confessed. there was a third person in

police are are looking into their involvement. and prosecutors are not charging this as a hate crime. instead they were charged with malicious destruction of property and tagging a property. john atwater, wcvb newscenter 5. jc: a state trooper is recovering after a driver slammed into his patrol car this morning. the accident happened in somerset near route 6 and brayton avenue. the trooper's injuries are minor. the driver of the car that hit the cruiser was not hurt. jc: investigators want to know who stabbed an everett high school player. the quarterback was attacked hours after a big win. rhondella richardson has good news on his condition. rhondella? reporter: she improving according to mass general hospital. the coach met with the football team twice to keep them focused and the superintendent said the quarterback, the victim, was with other teammates when he

to children trick-or-treating on halloween night. two separate parents reported their children were given -- what that is is a picture of a toilet tank cleaning product. you are familiar with that. that's what that was and this is the wrapper. the children are 6 and 14 years old. they were wrapped and not consumed by the children. both were trick-or-treating in the downtown area. this is in hopkinton. they urge everyone to be vigilant and check any and all candy before you consume in. this is in hopkinton where they did not consume it, but they found those items. jc? jc: ed, thank you so much. a connecticut man accused of killing his own parents. phil: investigators say he did not act alone. the plan he hatched with his girlfriend and the ultimatum that sparked it. jc: she was out for a walk in manchester, but now there is new suspicions.

accused of conspiring with her boyfriend to kill her parents appeared in court. jennifer valentine faces conspiracy to commit murder and hindering prosecution. they were found on friday night, nearly two months after they disappeared. their son kyle is charged with murdering his parents and dumping their bodies in an empty yard in a connecticut town. the victims planned to cut their son off financially. jc: president obama is talking prison reform. he will better integrate prisoners back into society. newark will be one of five new municipalities to partner with local colleges and employers to provide job training and placement to exoffenders. obama's uh nones meant comes after the decision to grant 6,000 federal prisoners' early release due to penalties and drug charges. jc: former president gem me

you will booy -- be saying that tomorrow. it is offsetting the shock to our system of the earlier sunsets. last saturday it was 5:39 and today 4:37. of course the earliest sunset is december 7th and that's at 4:11. at least a mild day. look at the beautiful sky in boston toward sunset. you know the old expression, red sky at night, sailor's delight? this will be the case tonight because we will have a beautiful, beautiful day tomorrow. boston is looking great and feeling great considering the time of year. 57 degrees is the temperature. the breeze is gentle out of the south at 5 miles per hour. the barometer is rising. we don't have wind. a lot of times of the year it is blustery and chilly and we are talking windchill. not talking about any of that right now. 50s across the area. keep in mind the clouds thin and eventually departing it will allow the temperature to drop in the out lying areas. mass.

it is due to long nights and clear skies so the temperature will really jump a lot tomorrow. it is mainly in the 50s across the area. there are the high, thin clouds. if you look across vermont, new hampshire, maine and western massachusetts it is clear. this is definitely moving to the east. it is not really moving to the north. the rain stays south and the clouds will thin out and then disappear later tonight and tomorrow to set us up for a beautiful, beautiful day coming up tomorrow. these are your temperatures overnight lows and if you are thinking about a jog in the morning or if you have the opportunity and some time off to play some golf or tennis, what a day. 65 to 70 degrees will be the temperature from late morning and noontime right until midto late afternoon. breeze out of the southwest about 5 miles an hour early about 10 to 15 miles an hour during the afternoon hours. lots of mild air off to the west and south. chicago is 70 degrees right now. that's pretty nice. and it is 72 in sioux city,

so it is mild and even off to the north and west where it is not as mild, that's hardly chilly for this time of year. now perhaps the warmst day this week could be on friday. every day will be above average. the record on friday is 70 degrees in worcester setback in 1978. i'm forecasting a 66. the record in boston is 73. right now i am forecasting a 70. we'll see how that plays out as we get closer to it. there are the clear skies that take over. the clock is moving, but not much else is changing. skies stay clear into early on thursday. we get patchy clouds on thursday and friday and there will booy a front -- there will be a front approaching, but i don't see much happening there. 65 and 70 on thursday and friday. either one of those two days will be near record warmth. saturday it turns cooler and then chilly earlier on sunday, but really more fine weather is lining up as we check it out. no matter how you slice all of this, it is nice.

today patriot safety mccordy showed his softer side. jc: he was at children's hospital and the visit was part of the tackle sickle cell campaign. it is to increase blood donors and raise awareness of sickle cell disease. mccordy and his twin brother who plays for the tennessee titans run the organization. phil: choughchipotle customers getting violently ill after an e-coli out bract. jc: the chain is taking action and where it is closing restaurants. the message for customers. phil: and taylor swift being sued for millions. who is accusing the pop star of stealing his lyrics?

jc: a health scare in the pacific northwest. sdozens sick in an e-coli outbreak at chough -- chipotle. they are are closing locations in oregon and washington state. chipotle customers in oregon and washington state are being turned away. the mexican fast-food chain is closing its doors after an e-coli outbreak has sickened people. >> the excruciating pain in my abdomen is something i never experienced. it feels like your guts are being ripped out. reporter: most of the victims say they had eaten at a chipotle in the portland area and western washington and experienced severe abdominal cramps and vomiting. >> it is overwhelming. like having all of the problems hit at once. reporter: out of an abundance of caution they shutdown all 43 locations in those two states saying in a statement, quote, the safety and well

always our highest priority even though the vast majority of these restaurants have no reported problems. >> people can still become ill even if the risk is no longer present because the incubation period can be up to 10 days. reporter: and health officials on scene are trying to pinpoint the exact source of the e-coli outbreak. >> when i did this it was almost always ground beef. there were outbreaks from lettuce and some outbreaks with salsa. salsa can be tough. jc: eight people have been hospitalized from the e-coli outbreak. the number of illnesses is expected to rise in the pacific northwest as they learn about it and see their doctor. phil: our kids are going mobile at an earlier age. researchers at a philadelphia clinic looked at 350 children and found 97% of them used mobile devices whether it is a smartphone or tablet. most started before the age of one. by four half of the children

had their own television. three out of four owned their own mobile device. most of the kids could turn on the device without help and use more than one screen at a time. the natural question, is any of that good? pediatricians say toddler screen time needs to be kept to moderate levels. jc: the tv thing i can't -- i don't -- phil: their own in their room is not a good idea. jc: but the fact that my 3-year-old is a whiz at the ipad is scary. republican candidates are teaming up after last week's widely criticized debate. the changes they are demanding. phil: and a local woman's major push to give foster kids the dignity they deserve.
