actually killed himself. officer charles glenowicz radioed for backup saying he was in pursuit of three suspicious men on foot when backup arrived they found an investigation into the officer's death determined he died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. ed: three lowell teens are charged with trying to use homeless. those are b.b. guns. thing. lowell police tell us that they've been unable to tell the difference between the b.b. guns and the .40 caliber pistol that they carry. officers say that two 12-year-olds and a 14-year-old were firing the bb's and throwing rocks at a group of street this morning. they have been arraigned in juvenile court. heather: an -- a death is under investigation, state police and d.c.f. in sandwich are on this case. officers rushed to the home on short lane this morning after a report of an unresponsive child. that one month old was hospital. the district attorney's office

says there are no obvious signs of trauma or foul play in this case and they're working how to determine that baby died. a local dog owner is warning others about her puppy's near death experience. she is blaming a dog bone that has seen its share of complaints. newscenter 5's mary saladna live in tewksbury. this is still on store shelves? mary: yeah, it sure is, heather. wal-mart is defending the product saying there are warnings on the label. but pet owners and pet experts are issuing their own warnings tonight. >> so much guilt that i gave him this bone. mary: kelly pasquariello and her family learned an expensive and emotional lesson. that almost cost them their beloved dog jake. kelly picked up this, a product called the real ham bone at her local wal-mart. within hours, after giving it to jake, she knew it was a horrible mistake. >> it was very obvious. he was vomiting. and had diarrhea and he could barely walk. it splintered as he ate it. pieces the size of the tip of my finger got stuck in his

volkswagen tonight after the company discovered unexplained inconsistencies in the carbon dioxide emissions of 800,000 vehicles. the result of v.w.'s internal investigation could cost that company more than $2 billion. v.w. did not say which vehicles are affected. the company is already reeling from the fallout of cheating on u.s. emissions tests. new at 11:00 honda will no longer use takata airbags in new vehicles. the company making the announcement after the government slapped a $07 million fine on takata for its handling of theary bag recall. the company admits it knew for years about the defects. but failed to tell the ntsb. 23 million defective airbags are responsible for eight deaths and more than 100 injuries worldwide. ed: this is new at 11:00 pro sports teams are playing defense over a controversial program that bills you to display patriotism. the calls for change could grow louder in just hours. newscenter 5's phil lipof tonight with the response from

the back seat. the results of leaks from shoddy body work. her gas door popped whenever she shut the door. and her original car parts were replaced with cheaper after market parts than are crash tested. rob delgalo has been in the auto repair business for more than 30 years. >> you're heading toward the windshield and an aftermarket or nonoriginal part that hasn't been crash tested. they want you to be the crash dummy. kathy: delgalo sees car repair jobs like katherine's and blames insurance companies for pressuring customers to go to one of their preferred repair shops. and then forcing those shops to cut corners to save money. body shop manager molly broder heads up the alliance of auto service providers in massachusetts. >> policy holders feel afraid and intimidated at times by their carrier. kathy: when you get your car fixed your insurance company will tell you they'll guarantee the work if you bring your car to one of their preferred auto

but what some drivers may not know is that by law, here in massachusetts, you can bring your car to any registered auto body shop of your choice. and they'll guarantee the work and the insurance company will pay the bill. >> they're afraid to exercise the rights that are available to them. for fear that the insurance company is not going to ultimately pay the claim. kathy: auto body shops in 19 states have sued dozens of insurance companies. accusing them of compelling shops to cut corners. using substandard or dangerous replacement parts to maximize their profit and steering customers away from shops that refuse to do repairs on the cheap. 17 more states including massachusetts are expected to jump in. >> use of aftermarket parts by auto insurers may help keep the overall repair costs down and the result is that insurance costs can be lower. kathy: paul tatro is a insurance companies.

we're not done with the warmth yet. but we're speaking about the warmth. here's something i wanted to show you. the last 10 years of snowfall in boston, the last 10 winters, we've had our ups and downs. but a couple of big ones. especially last winter. so the average over this 10 years, over 53 inches, the highest average snowfall over any 10-year period in boston since we've been keeping records in the late 1800's. that's kind of interesting. let's check out the next seven days for you. and there you have it. a beautiful, beautiful day coming up for you tomorrow. and we'll have some clouds mixing with the sun both thursday and friday. approaching 70 thursday. probably in the 70's on friday. it could be a spot shower. and then we're cooler on saturday. colder on sunday. and we start to warm up again early next week. and just want to show you some of the clouds that could start to move in at times on thursday. and linger into friday. so it may not be as brilliantly sunny the entire time. as we've had at the last few days and as we'll have it for you tomorrow. but overall, for a seven-day forecast in november, not too shabby.
