randy: absolutely. i got zracked there. emily: good morning, i'm emily riemer. randy: and i'm randy price with cindy fitzgibbon. cindy: people are dancing about the weather. it's a treat. if you like the cooler fall feel, you get it in the mornings and then get to shed your layers in the afternoon. emily: the best of both worlds. cindy: upper 30's in bedford and lower 30's in orange and worcester 52, boston 50 degrees. there are those cold pockets around norwood and taunton. we have the lower 50's on cape cod. clear skies now and we'll enjoy another day with lots of sunshine and blue sky. high pressure is right on top of us. this means the winds will stay light today. it will allow a sea breeze to develop so temperatures by 8:00 a.m. coming up to near 50 degrees. the sun is up at 6:21 today. your lunch hour, it will be sunny and mild, right around 60 degrees. but as the winds turn

we'll hold near 60 degrees and keep climbing in the mid 60's over the interior, looking for a high of 65 taunton and 65 in nashua as well. let's get you to the roads and see how we're looking out there, good morning, olessa. olessa: a live look at the expressway. so far the volume is nice and light. this is the southbound side as you see traffic getting by without any problems. northbound, rather. let's check out the ride in the construction. in the final stages, at the zakim bridge. cleared away construction at the bryant bridge. also some roadwork on 128 by great plain avenue. construction clearing by newton corner and both sides of the pike and if you're traveling 128 in both ways, there's roadwork picking up between route 3 and route 2. trains and buses start in the morning on schedule. randy? randy: breaking overnight. investigators are trying to figure out what started the raging fire in lowell. the flames broke out before midnight in this two family home.

the son reports the home was vacant. firefighters were chasing hot hours. no one was hurt and we'll bring you updates here on the eyeopener. emily: the teenager accused of murdering his teacher is courtroom and this will be the first time we see phillip chism since his trial came to an abrupt halt. randy: sera kongi is in salem with what to expect. sera: all eyes will be on the danvers teenager and his behavior as he walks in the courtroom today. the trial was stopped last month after he started exhibiting strange behavior like banging his head on a wall, a table and the floor of his holding cell. that raised questions about whether the 16-year-old is competent to stand trial for the rape and murder of danvers high school math teacher colleen ritzer. prosecutors have called chism's behavior fake but the judge in the case ordered the teen to undergo a mental evaluation. that evaluation is complete and

but right now it is under seal and we can expect to hear more what is in the evaluation at today's hearing at 9:30 at salem district court. follow along on wcvb.com as well as the mobile news app. live in salem, sera congi. newscenter 5. randy: two people are recovering after being pulled out of the water in weymouth and started with 911 calls last night that reported people screaming. a kayaker who lives near parnell street heard those same yells and paddled out trying to help the men who had been in a rowboat. the fire department tells us that a police boat arrived and brought the men back to shore and they were taken to south shore hospital. no word on why they were out in the water at that hour. emily: right now a new mother is recovering from this violent crash, the impact forcing her to give birth two months early. erika tarantal joins us with who witnesses say is

erika: they tell me two people drag racing forced the woman and her husband off the road. brittany beaudoin were a block manchester, new hampshire when they were caught between two cars on beech street. witness witnesses say those vehicles were going 60 miles an hour when they clipped the couplest saab sending it flying into a utility pole. they survived but brittany was forced into a emergency c section. >> we're just thanking the stars all three survived, baby boy aiden was supposed to be due on christmas. erika: mom, dad and the baby are doing ok this morning. police have not decided what charges to bring against the driver who hit them. emily? emily: erika, thanks. an infant's death is under investigation in sandwich. state police and d.c.f. are on the case. officers rushed to the home on short lane for a report of an unresponsive child yesterday. the 1-month-old was pronounced dead at cape cod hospital. the district attorney's office

of trauma or foul play and working to determine how that baby died. there are several new developments this morning in the growing opiod crisis in new england and todd kazakiewich is live at the statehouse on the move the governor will make today. todd: this morning the governor will kick off a new mission to try to take the stigma of addiction out of addiction. this morning the governor will announce a new media campaign developed with a federal grant. the governor calls the stigma of opiod addiction the major reason why people are not seeking treatment. early this year he launched a $800,000 tv and online ad campaign to inform parents about the risks facing teenagers. in the meantime, there's new evidence the toll this crisis is taking. two people died from suspected heroin overdoses in new bedford just since friday and both are under 30 years of age. in haverhill, five people overdosed within hours on friday. none of them died.

hampshire that governor maggie hassan wants lawmakers to come back for a special session that would be focused just on the opiod abuse crisis. reporting live from the statehouse, todd kazakiewich. randy: seth moulton wants better coordination when it comes to prescriptions for veterans. he tells the globe, the u.s. department of veterans' affairs needs to work faster to synchronize its drug prescription data with that of a mandatory state program in the commonwealth. that program records opiod prescriptions written outside of the v.a. system. his concerns come after the deaths of three men at a facility for homeless veterans in boston. a resident there linked those deaths to overdoses. new information on this illinois police officer whose shooting death caused a manhunt, a major manhunt. investigators say charles gliniewicz killed himself. he radioed for backup on september 1 saying he was running after three suspects. and when other officers arrived

they found gliniewicz shot. investigators now think that that wound was self-inflicted. emily: a major shakeup on the boston city council, long time counselor charles yancey is out and andrea campbell defeating him in the fourth district, 61% to 38%. campbell celebrated last night at a party in dorchester. she was just a year old when yancey first took office in 183. now she says she'll focus on constituents needs including affordable housing and education and says that includes reshaping the discussion of charter schools. >> there are thousands of parents in this district that send their kids to charter schools. the question needs to become why are they opting out of the b.p.s. system and going elsewhere. emily: that was not the only upset. long time counselor at large steven murphy also is out. the four at large seats went to ayanna presley, michelle wu,

michael flaherty, and newcomer annissa george. randy: a teenager will predict brockton. he won the vote and will join the council. the bridgewater state university student may be the youngest person to ever serve on the council. he told the enterprise voters want youngblood. he beats politician steve foote for the post. now to the race for the white house. donald trump is making an important trip to new hampshire today. the republican will file presidential candidacy papers at the statehouse in concourt. trump continues to maintain the lead in the grand state. a poll released monday has him with 26% of the vote, 10% ahead of his closest competitor ben carson. emily: democratic contender martin o'malley will make a campaign stop in boston and host a leadership reception tonight for civic tech startups in the city and the reception will be followed by a competition with those groups. randy: right now honda is cutting ties.

randy: i have two left feed. cindy: yesterday we overachieved. and got to 73 in boston. early september weather, not november weather. you're looking across the country and think it's got to be cold somewhere. it is in canada. and notice out in the northwest corner of the country, these are forecast highs and where we have 40's and 50's which you might expect in november and where the jet stream is kind of taking a dip southward allowing the colder air to drain down. the rest of the country enjoying the mild temperatures overall and will be the case

what we will notice today are lighter winds so that means a sea breeze developing at the coastline so not quite as warm as it was yesterday but we'll be back near record highs by friday and then it will cool down over the weekend but it's not going to last. next week it looks like we'll build the ridge in the jet stream again. overall a mild temperature trend. 42 in beverly and if you're headed out in bedford, lower 30's towards orange so again you'll want that jacket with you out the door and shed it as we get into the afternoon and the temperatures warm up nicely. 52 out the door in worcester. look at the cold pockets in norwood and taunton in the 30's and lower 50's this morning on cape cod. skies are clear and we'll enjoy a lot of sunshine again today. the high pressure is building in on top of us and why the winds will be so light and why we'll see the sea breeze. the warmer air has been pushed temporarily to the south and west and underneath the warm front and will come back temperatures will pick up a little bit tomorrow.

notice as we get towards 11:00 this morning to 1:00 p.m., it will be near 60 degrees and then temperatures fall off a little bit this afternoon. right along the immediate coastline, upper 50's to around 60. those are the high temperatures. while inland areas we will keep climbs in the mid 60's, nashua 63 and 65 demour high in taunton as well. as the winds turn southeast will bring in more moisture especially in southeastern massachusetts, there will be patchy fog and temperatures low 50's along the coast and boston as well. otherwise the suburbs in the 40's and not as cold and then we have the warmer, southerly winds taking hold on thursday. we will bring you more clouds and by friday more clouds and maybe a spot shower. friday is the peak of the warmth and when we'll flirt with record highs. the record in worcester is 70 and 73 in boston and think we'll be close and depends on how much sunshine we see around here.

upper 60's tomorrow, more clouds but should be dry. on friday morning, you're waking up to clouds and maybe a spot shower through mid morning and during the midday hours, see what happens to the cloud, they break up a little bit and that could send us near those record high temperatures but late in the day, a cold front approaches and winds kick up and there could be a brief passing shower friday evening but that front does usher in the colder air so by saturday it's near 60 but a good amount of sunshine over your weekend. sunday is the colder weekend day near 50 and then we're starting along the temperatures up front again. the cooldown coming this weekend doesn't last and we're back to 60 degrees by tuesday. emily: why do i feel we'll pay for it later? cindy: we paid for if last winder. -- winter. emily: cindy: a live look at route 1. you see traffic is still nice and light in both directions. let's get to the map with overnight construction, 93 south approaching the zakim bridge and two projects cleared

away the expressway and also an accident near bryant avenue cleared away. travel 1g28, the construction gone by great plain avenue and roadwork done by newton corner and the construction on route 2 and 3 cleared early. trains and buses starting on schedule. randy? randy: we're digging into an investigation that car insurance reporting their bottom line ahead of safety. more than a hundred repair shops around the country have filed lawsuits and shops in massachusetts are about to join in on this. katherine spear says her insurance company told her that they'd guarantee repairs done x one of their preferred or referral auto body shops. she says that shop replaced her original car parts with cheaper after-market parts and the leaks from shoddy body work caused mold to grow in her car. many auto body shop owners say insurance companies pressure customers to go to one of their preferred repair shops and then force their shops to cut corners to save money.

>> they want the cheapest way possible. safety, maybe. >> big risk. >> risking with their life. randy: by law in the commonwealth you can take your car to be repaired at any registered auto body shop of your choice and the work will be guaranteed and your insurance company will pay the bill. emily: honda no longer will use takata air bags in new vehicles and that announcement comes after the government hit them with adds 70 million fine of a recall. the company admits it knew for years about dangerous defects but failed to tell regulators and those air bags are responsible for eight deaths and more than a hundred injuries worldwide. more troubles for volkswagen. the company discovered so-called unexplained inconsistencies in the carbon dioxide emissions of 800,000 vehicles. the results of v.w.'s internal investigation could cost the company he more than $2 billion. v.w. is not saying which vehicles are affected. and this new trouble follows that's missions scandal in

which v.w. admits it cheated. randy: new trouble this morning for fantasy sports sites draftkings and fanduel. a texas based gaming systems developer is now suing them for patent infringement. the video gaming technology says the sites have been using their technology without paying for that technology and allows for real-time interaction between gamers and companies. draftkings and fanduel have not commented. emily: new this morning it might seem like last call but actually the first call for this group of all ages. randy: believe it or not, it's 7:00 a.m. on a wednesday mork in -- morning in new england. erika is back with the fitness and health movement dancing its way into the boston area. erika: called daybreaker and all about fun and about creating a positive and sober environment to kick off your day. it started in new york city. now daybreakers has expanded to

cindy: big gift. feels like september. we want to continue with these above average temperatures. typical early november high temperatures should be in the mid 50's and we average our low temperatures around 40 degrees in the morning hours. sun rise at 6:21 and starting out above average in above, 52 in worcester but the suburbs in the 30's and 40's. 36 in taunton and 38 in bedford. out the door right now. skies are clear this morning. there may be a patch or two of fog here and there and will be burning off quickly. high pressure overhead means two things. loads of sunshine today but light wind. and as they turn to the southeast with the sea breeze this afternoon, kind of hold the temperatures down so lunchtime we're around 60 degrees and falling back after the sun sets at 4:35 today, looking for highs holding near that 60-degree mark at the coast.

no one was hurt when flames consumed the vacant home on baldwin street. randy: two people in the hospital after being rescued from weymouth. people took a rowboat out and got in trouble and a kayaker who lives nearby tried to help them before police arrived. emily: the danvers teen is getting ready to return to court for the first time since his trial came to an abrupt halt. a mental evaluation was asked for chism after he started banking his head on a wall, table in his cell. randy: and act of vandalism at a burlington mosque is getting turned into a positive. we'll bring together people of all faiths. emily: antoinette is live with the plan. antoinette: all the vandalism is still out here and the plan is to write over the vandalized walls with positive messages about islam and religious

diversity. several local interfaith leaders are set to join the islamic center of burlington later this morning for the rally declaring we are americans. police say two 18-year-olds, cameron capella and derrik demone admitted tagging the building and tagged it repeatedly with the letters "u.s.a." in red and throwing eggs at it and have been charged with malicious deinstruction of property. this morning all the graffiti will be painted over after the messages of positivity about islam as well as religious diversity are shared. we're live in burlington this morning. antoinette antonio, wcvb. >> i can't replace this. randy: the ashes of a woman's late brother were stolen and right now is pleading to get those ashes back to wherever it took them and might not even realize what they have. erika is back to explain. erika: whoever took the ashes may have thought they were

stealing drugs. danielle correia's jeep was broken into in stoughton between monday and tuesday and her late brother's ashes were inside in an unmarked pill bottle and now is devastated. danielle: i have one brother and he died and this is all i have left of him. emily: the chief stole money and credit cards from the jeep. one of her credit cards was found in town yesterday. randy? randy: three lowell teenagers are charged with using these to take aim at the homeless, their b.b. guns. they look like the real thing. officers say two 12-year-olds and a 14-year-old were firing the b.b.'s, throwing rocks as well at a group of homeless people on fletcher street questioned. -- street yesterday. they've been arraigned in juvenile court. emily: a dog owner is warning others after a treat nearly killed her puppy. this morning wal-mart is defending the product on the shelves saying there's a warning level.

kelly pasquariello said she gave her dog jake the real hambone and said moments after he started vomiting and couldn't work. thousands in emergency surgery shaved his life. kelly: it splintered as he ate it and it just -- pieces of size of the tip of my finger got stuck in his small intestine. you google this bone and it comes up with so many stories of either pets losing their lives or they need emergency surgery like jake. emily: the hambone warning was issued five years ago after pet owners complained. the company that makes the bone, dynamic pet, says it goes above and beyond safety requirements. veterinarians say pet owners should stay away from artificial bones. randy: purple heart recipients could have free access to the parks. members of the house have until late this morning to support a bill to waive fees. disabled veterans and people with disabilities already can get into state parks for free. emily: 6:36 this morning. a massachusetts family taking

this progressive disease. and at the end of a nine-day trek, she and a group made it to the base camp where they unfurled a banner with the names of kids affected by the disease. tonya: saying their names outloud makes it that much real we'd gone there for them. it was emotional, especially saying my own son's name. randy: dreher climbed to the height of 17,500 feet and it was well worth it. she says the group raised $50,000 for research. emily: well done. a spencer girl hit by a car after getting off the school bus. the questions right now. also, a new weapon in the opiod fight on the case. and it cost more than half a million dollars.

nonetheless, it won't be quite as warm today with a sea breeze at the coast and above average this time of year. near record highs possible near friday and it will turn cooler for the upcoming weekend. but it does look like a brief cooldown and temperatures look to trend above average again by the early part of next week. starting out with some 30's out there in the suburbs. notice, it is 38 in bedford, 34 in norwood, taunton 36 degrees and lower 50's on the cape this morning, also 50 degrees in boston. but i want you to notice over the next 12 hours, we approach that 60-degree mark around lunchtime but don't really go up in the 60's, at least along the coastline today. we have high pressure this morning centered overhead and will keep the winds very light today and allow for a sea breeze to develop so much cooler at the coast today. off to the west so warmer air is starting to build back in. as the warm front presses in tomorrow it will bring back the warmer temperatures and cloud. mid 60's inland as the sea breeze holds you to upper 50's and 60 degrees in the coastline but mostly sunny skies today

and see a few clouds tonight in the south coast and the cape. otherwise 40's to around 50 degrees for overnight low temperatures. here comes the warmer air tomorrow with increasing afternoon clouds and then as we head toward the day on friday, more clouds and sunshine. can't rule out a spot shower in the morning but if we brighten up enough in the afternoon, coupled with the southwesterly wind, we have a shot at a record in boston. it is 73 going for a high of 72 and we'll be near the record of 70 in worcester as well and certainly a warm end to the week. let's get you to the roads now. how are we looking out there, olessa? olessa: so far no complaints. the delay is starting to pick up by the gas tank northbound side buttop and go and aside from that we're all right. let's get to the maps and check out your ride. heading south, now 24 stop and go and also route three from weymouth to rain tree. the east pike looks good. framingham, 495 to 128 about 15

there's a frontal boundary. this will start to press towards us overnight and into tomorrow and bring back even warmer temperatures. we'll drop down today only in the 40's to around 50 degrees for overnight low temperatures and with more of a southeasterly wind we'll bring in more clouds overnight and throughout the day tomorrow we'll call it partly sunny. there will be more clouds tomorrow into the afternoon but the temperatures come up to near 70 degrees again tomorrow, just trading off for more clouds. on friday morning there might be a couple spot shower with a fair amount of cloud. look what happens towards lunchtime. the cloud break with sunshine and without sun, we could get close to the record high of 72 degrees as a front approaches in the evening hours with a gusty southwesterly wind and behind the front, cooler temperatures for the weekend. near 60 on saturday with sunshine but only in the upper 40's to near 50 degrees for highs on sunday. so feeling like football weather for our patriots down in gillette on sunday. let's get you out to the roads now with olessa.
