public health shows a huge spike in fatal overdoses linked to the painkiller. this new data is showing over people who fatally overdosed with fentanyl in their system topped 330 cases. that' s a more than 50% spike from the previous 12-month period. it' s not clear if fentanyl was the actual cause of death in those instances. the department of public health does not keep track of the total overdose deaths in the state last year are linked to the drug. other states do keep track of that information, and governor baker says it' s time massachusetts starts doing a a better job. dph officials say they are working to overhaul their reporting system. in all there were 1200 overdose deaths statewide in 2014. we' re live at the statehouse this morning. antoinette antonio, wcvb newscenter 5. emily: thank you. in commitment 2016, chris

christie and mike huckabee will not be on the main stage during next week' s gop debate. fox business is making them part of the so-called undercard, along with bobby jindal and rick santorum. that leaves donald trump, jeb bush, and ben carson on the main stage, among others. meantime, hillary clinton is coming out with strong words for her republican opponents. the eye' s erika tarantal has her late-night appearance. erika: the democratic presidential contender appeared on "jimmy kimmel" last night. she said she was both appalled and amused as she watched the last republican debate, suggesting the candidates avoided serious issues. mrs. clinton: i just wish they would actually address the real problems that americans face, like how do we make college more affordable? how do you make the debt that kids have built up down? erika: clinton declined to say much about ben carson, who has a lead of 10 points over her in the latest quinnipiac poll. kimmel did mention carson' s latest headline-making statement about a biblical figure building the egyptian pyramids, but clinton didn' t
