>> wcvb newscenter 5 at 11:00 starts right now. pam: a deadly plunge into the charles river. bob: what witnesses say happened before the crash. >> women assaulted in the streets in a boston neighborhood. mike: feeling like fall again. my cooler forecast for the rest of the weekend and when we might see rain again. pam: a college student arrested on gun charges. how campus tips led to a disturbing discovery. the cause of a deadly crash, part of an intense investigation, two killed when a pickup plurches into -- plunges into the charles river. all happening in the shadow of the boston museum of science.

bob: valiant attempts made to save lives but it was too late. reporter: not 50 feet from where the crash happened sits a state police barracks. troopers among those who witnessed the truck crash, through the guardrail. one jumped into action. witnesses say the deadly plunge took seconds. the pickup truck carried a man and woman, both of whom died. seconds before the crash, the sound of screeching tires and blaring horns. >> i saw two cars fighting for the same lane but the truck hopped the curb, hit an electrical box. reporter: and through the guardrail. the accident happened just before 7:00, across the street from the boston police barracks and under the science park west end t stop along the green line. >> i was doing a lot of yelling trying to direct people. reporter: a state trooper jumped

into the 50 degree water as did a passer-by in an attempt to save lives. divers pulled the man and woman out through the window of a door. >> we activated dive teams from cambridge and boston fire and they did a preliminary search in the area. reporter: water cascading from the pickup truck as a heavy duty tow truck lifted it from its watery end, witnesses left dismayed that little else could be done to help. >> something needed to be done but you didn't know what to do. reporter: state police trying to figure out what the initial cause was of the crash. police confirming that the other car involved in the crash remained on the scene. bob: authorities identified the body of a woman found in bridgewater. 29-year-old ashley bortner was found bound and burned at the scene of a fire along the mbta tracks tuesday night. police received a report of a

suspicious vehicle parked and two people seen in the area. they are continuing to investigate and believe it was a targeted act. anyone with information is asked to call police. pam: boston police looking for the public's help after three attacks on women in dorchester over a five-week period. investigators want to know if one suspect is involved. streets now places of fear. >> i used to walk up here to go to the store, burger king with my granddaughter. i'm not going to do that anymore. pam: boston police investigating three separate crimes. a woman approached by a man exposing himself. two incidents happened outside this elderly housing complex. >> that's making me wonder. before i go to work, i have to look around. what's going on. pam: police say the male assailant tried to grab a woman. the suspect in all incidents

students about the situation. >> i probably wouldn't have known that the situation occurred. reporter: curry college public safety searched a residence hall following reports of theft on campus. tips from students led them to the suspect. >> i think they handled it very well. reporter: curry college administrators declined to speak on camera but in a statement said there is no ongoing threat to the campus. having a gun on campus is not only against curry college policy, it's against the law. >> we're definitely blessed that it didn't get out of hand. reporter: the suspect was charged with several counts of drug possession. newscenter 5 has learned that he is from boston, with ties to new york. he has been suspended from curry college and is still in milton police custody. in milton, wcvb, newscenter 5. pam: right now an investigation underway after a body is found in salem.

it was discovered washed up on the shore of children's island by a lobsterman. police are trying to determine the victim's identity. there were no signs of foul play. bob: police arrest a suspect in connection with a brighton murder. 25-year-old gamada musa charged in the shooting death of 30-year-old desmond joseph. the incident happened two weeks ago where officers discovered the body of joseph with multiple gunshot wounds. musa will be arraigned on monday. pam: suspensions that a bomb brought down a russian passenger plane last week. the chief investigator says tests are underway and they're focused on a noise at the end of the cockpit recording. >> a noise was heard in the last second of the recording. pam: the noise found in the cockpit black box recordings is being analyzed. the head of the egyptian inquiry

says all scenarios are being considered. the debris field spreads eight miles over the sinai desert. all 224 on board were killed. >> that points to evidence that criminal and forensic investigators will want to drill down into. the timing of the explosion, any other data that could correlate to time and the location of the explosion. pam: russian and egyptian emergency workers on saturday returned to the crash site. while the examination of the debris field continues, servicemen from both countries laid flowers on the wreckage of the plane. it is reported that some employees were placed under surveillance. many waited in long lines for flights out. in the sinai, the investigation goes on. >> parts of the wreckage are missing and it is hoped to locate them in the coming days.

>> you're watching wcvb newscenter 5 at 11:00. pam: new hampshire police looking for this man caught on camera brandishing a gun as he robbed a bank on saturday. it happened at the triangle credit union on elm street. anyone with information are asked to call police. bob: demonstrators gather in canton to protest the decision to allow a deer hunt in the blue hills. state officials say the area is overpopulated with the animals, which they claim has a negative effect on vegetation, leads to more accidents and the spread of lyme disease but critics site concerns for the deer, public safety threats and questions about the validity of the
