you head out to northern worcester county. 20's showing up orange up into southwest new hampshire 20's as well. norwood, taunton upper 20's. a lot of 30's on cape cod. it is a cold start but the skies are clear. we have a large area of high pressure centered right on top of us today. sunshine all day long today. but look to the south. there is some rain. this is actually moving in our direction for tomorrow. so needed rain on the way tomorrow. but sunshine will warm us up nicely after a cold start this morning. by late morning, we're in the 50's and approaching 60 degrees even by lunchtime today with a high near 60 in boston. along the coastline as well you get into the hilly tefer rain of worcester county. mid to upper 50's today. more on the timing of that rain on the way tomorrow coming you. let's get you out to the roads right now. good morning, olessa. olessa: the zakim bridge looking good behind me. not seeing any problems just yet. there is overnight construction though. let's get over to the maps. if you're traveling 93 south we have that roadwork at the zakim bridge. also on the expressway north approaching storrow and once again by freeport street.

south of town construction 93 by route 24. on 95 north at 128. along the pike there's roadwork by newton corner and your last project on 128 between route 2 and route 2a. so far we're expecting the trains and the buss to start the morning on schedule. randy. randy: right now, the grieving mother of the woman whose body was found burned and dumped near train tracks is sending a message to her killer. and it might not be the one you expect. emily: the eye's sera congi is live in bridgewater with the new details in this disturbing mystery. sera: emily and randy. the victim's mother says she wants people to know her daughter was a beautiful young woman who once dreamed of being an actress. 29-year-old ashley bortner's body was found bound and burned along the railroad tracks last week. investigators have said they believe the new jersey native was targeted, but they have not made any arrests or talked about potential suspects. bortner's mother says her daughter used to live in hyde park. they haven't seen each other in

three years, they did keep in touch. tamara pack tells "the herald," quote, "through god and his grace i have forgiven the person who did this to my baby. i have to forgive him or i wouldn't be able to go on." pack says she's been raising bortner's 13-year-old son. the young woman's family is now asking for donations to help bring her body home to new jersey for a funeral. live at the bridgewater police station, sera congi, wcvb, newscenter 5. randy: other stories we're following right now. two boston police officers are recovering after they were dragged by a car in mattapan. the officers stopped the driver for speeding on blue hill avenue last night. police say the driver, whose name has not been released, tried to get out of the car and eventually took off with the officers hanging on. he then hit a parked car and was arrested. he's expected in court today. the officers were not seriously hurt. emily: police are trying to figure out exactly what caused a deadly crash in boston. brian archand and his girlfriend rebecca smith were killed when their pick-up truck plunged into the charles river saturday night. the rhode island couple was in the city celebrating archand's

birthday. police say the truck ran a red light near the leverett circle, before side-swiping an s.u.v., and crashing through a barrier into the river. randy: a new hampshire couple is demanding answers after their van was vandalized three times. the laughtons, who are disabled, have parked their van in the same assigned spot at their derry apartment for the last seven years. in the last week, they say someone has spray painted the van, rubbed dog feces on it, and put sugar in the gas tank. keep paying the deductibles to get it fixed. emily: jury selection resumes today in the murder trial of a danvers teen charged with raping eight jurors have been chosen so far to sit on the jury in the philip chism trial. eight more jurors are needed. chism is accused of murdering colleen ritzer at danvers high the trial is expected to last at least a month. a curry college student is expected in court today. darius boodoosingh will be

arraigned on charges of illegally possessing a gun, ammunition, and drugs in his dorm room. the college says tips from students led to his arrest on friday. boodoosingh has been suspended. randy: new this morning. the state is getting ready to unveil a new plan of attack in the war on opioid abuse. we are talking about the state's four medical schools including here at boston university. today they're expected to announce a new cooperation to stop addiction before it starts. as we've often reported, the misuse of prescription painkillers can start a long road of addiction. the goal under this new agreement is for all 3,000 students enrolled at the state's medical schools to be taught the skills needed to prevent and control that problem. that includes a curriculum that focuses on evaluating risk before prescribing painkillers, treating at-risk patients, and managing abuse as a chronic illness. this is all part of governor baker's plan to battle the

opioid crisis which claimed more than 1,000 lives in massachusetts last year. emily: commitment 2016. hillary clinton makes it official today. the eye's erika tarantal joins us with the democratic frontrunner's plans in new hampshire. and the weekend wins and criticism for the g.o.p.'s top two candidates. erika: good morning. hillary clinton will be in the granite state today to file paperwork for the primary. she'll then host a town hall meeting at windham high school. on the republican side, donald trump scoring big ratings for s.n.l. saturday's episode was the highest rated since january 2012. back on the campaign trial sunday trump's biggest rival, ben carson pushing back against recent, scrutiny by the media. ben carson: the burden will not be on me to corroborate everything i ever talked about in my life because once i start down that road every single day from now until the election, time doing that.

lots of sunshine this afternoon. temperatures do moderate. we need some rainfall. looks like we're going to get some coming in during the day on wednesday. across parts of the area. that's a good thing. again we need it. the temperatures overall this week will be running a little average? you probably have lost track considering how up-and-down the weather has been. the average high now is 54. the next couple of days we're a little bit above that. we'll settle back to slightly cooler temperatures here as we get toward the middle of the week. look at the temperatures right now. we're 44 in town. 39 in worcester. on the cape this morning lower 30's hyannis. 28 in taunton. 28 in norwood. up toward the merrimack valley, we're 31 right now in nashua. we will climb up out of the 30's here by about 8:00 or 9:00 this morning. we'll spend most of the afternoon in the 50's. loads of sunshine. just a couple clouds today. it will be a sun-filled start to the week overall. you can see how clear it is on the satellite imagery this morning. a big area of high pressure on top of us.

this has been bringing a lot of heavy rainfall here to parts of the southeast but something interesting that we are watching as well. hurricane season is not over. it goes through the end of november. we have a brand new tropical depression. the winds are 35 miles per hour here. it is located between the southern and central bahamas. it's forecast to lift north wards and then out to sea. some of that tropical moisture may try to interact with this system as it moves up the coastline. it could enhance a little bit of our rainfall locally. today we will see the temperatures come up into the upper 50's to around 60 degrees southwest. you can see all the sunshine through today. we get into the evening hours and we're still clear. by tomorrow morning just a few clouds coming on in. we will cloud over tomorrow and rain comes in in the afternoon so low temperatures tonight. upper 30's to the lower 40's and highs tomorrow running mostly in the mid to a few upper 50's so not quite as mild as today. we'll watch this system approach from the south, bring in a slug of rain, a period of wind tuesday evening as well.

and then it will start to move away for you on veterans. in terms of the rainfall looks like the heaviest rain likely going to be in south iron massachusetts where we could see more than an inch over the cape and the islands. during that tuesday evening, tuesday nighttime frame, the winds will pick up. we could see gusts over 40 miles an hour through wednesday morning on the cape and the islands. we have wet weather coming in tomorrow. it moves out on veterans day. we'll take a closer look at the timing coming up. once we get past this system we could have a few additional showers on thursday afternoon. we're drying it out on friday and cooling it down a little bit for next weekend looking for highs only around 50 or the lower 50's here by next weekend. you knew last week was still too good to last but temperatures really not too bad. 50's to near 60. pretty typical. olessa: back to reality. thank you. a quiet start on the roads. there is the pike eastbound move to go the top of the screen. we're looking good in both directions. ride. construction. that's what we're watching. if you're traveling 93 south approaching the zakim bridge.

also picking up that roadwork on the expressway north. mass avenue to storrow. freeport street. 93 construction by route 24 that's still in place. so is the roadwork here on 95 north by 128. newton corner. last construction zone 128 as you travel past route 2 and route 2a. that will be clearing the next ten minutes or so. the trains and buses we're expecting them to start the randy, emily. investigators say there is new evidence that an inside job took down a russian jetliner in egypt. they believe isis likely recruited someone with access to the ramp at the egypt airport to plant a bomb on the russian jet. the first of three teams of russian ininspectors have been sent to egypt to examine security. some of the victims were found with shrapnel wounds, which could be an indication that the plane was brought down by an explosive device. president obama meets today with israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu at the white house. the relationship between the two leaders has been strained recently. back in march, netanyahu addressed congress and was very

critical of the iran nuclear negotiations. and the appointment of a chief spokesman who suggested obama is anti-semitic and secretary of state john kerry should not be taken seriously has not helped ease tensions. today's meeting will focus on national security matters. demanding changes in the european union, threatening to leave if they are not met. prime minister david cameron is expected to deliver a speech tomorrow outlining the request. among the changes the u.k. is asking-- safeguarding rights of countries that do not use the euro, and limiting e.u. migrants' access to welfare. cameron has already promised a u.k. public referendum on whether it should stay in the e.u. emily: topping economic headlines. regulators are expanding on-the-road emissions tests over concerns there could be more cheating. the tests come in the wake of volkswagen's admission that it installed software on more than 11 million cars to evade emissions standards. regulators in the u.s. a canada are now worried other companies could do the same for

diesel cars. the average price of gasoline is going up. over the past two weeks, regular gas has inched up a penny to $2.25 a gallon. industry analysts say the slight increase comes as crude costs jump. prices at the pump had fallen 63 cents over 19 weeks. randy: asian shares were mixed overnight following friday's stronger-than-anticipated u.s. october jobs report. at this hour u.s. stock futures are higher. emily: paying back student loans is often a big source of stress. but there's a local company trying to change that. student loan debt in the u.s. totals $1.3 trillion. some payments can be $300, $500, or even $1,000 a month. boston startup "gradifi" has developed a program to help you pay it down faster. three other people were hurt. the north-bound side of the highway near crash scene was closed for more than five hours. randy: a woman is seriously hurt after she was hit by a car in dorchester. it happened on adams street sunday afternoon. the woman was taken to boston medical center with life-threatening injuries. the driver did stay at the scene. emily: a meeting today will focus on changes to make this stretch of highway in oxford safer. this curve on route 20 was the site of last month's crash that killed a young mother and her baby. the goal of the meeting-- to make the curve safer before winter. officials have already made plans to install a guardrail in the middle of the road and widen it. randy: tewksbury police are trying to track down this man accused of robbing a mobil station. police say he pulled a knife on an employee at the station on andover street late last night. nobody was hurt. police believe the suspect was driving a black ford fusion. emily: the pats are 8-0 this morning. but yesterday's win against

washington came at a price. runningback dion lewis going down in the third quarter with a leg injury. he'll have an m.r.i. on his left knee today. that will determine just how long he'll be sidelined. tom brady threw for 299 yards at gillette. the pats defeating washington 27-10. they'll take on the bills sunday at 4-25. the bruins snap a three-game losing streak in brooklyn with a 2-1 win over the islanders. ryan spooner and patrice bergeron each scoring a goal. but the star of the night-- tuukka rask made a number of impressive saves. his best game of the season. it's the first win of the month for the bruins. they're back at the garden randy: a preview of things to come in new york city. organizers took these giant, colorful floats on their first test run for the 89th annual macy's thanksgiving day parade. angry birds and ice age characters, among the floats making their debut at the practice run this weekend.

it. right around the corner. cindy: why does that happen every we're? all of a sudden, the holidays. randy: we were having summer last week. cindy: we were. it mess s with the psyche a little bit. the temperatures with a big impact last week certainly. how about some rain? you will feel the effects of that here as we go into the next couple of days. dry today and dry through tomorrow morning but our chance for rain is going up here as we head towards tomorrow afternoon especially tomorrow night into wednesday morning. that will likely have the biggest impact if you're a commuter. probably the wednesday morning commute. then the rainfall chances drop off during the day on wednesday which is, of course, veterans day. we do need the rainfall. we haven't had really any this month. just a trace. for the month now, we're closing in on an inch behind. look at this. you go all the way back to january 1. about an 8.5-inch deficit in boston. it's close to eight inches in worcester as well. we really do need some rainfall. high pressure over the northeast today though so it is a quiet sun-filled day in the northeast. we'll sneak up close to 60 degrees this afternoon after a

chilly start. i want you to look down the coast. you can see there is rain. only 51 under that rain in atlanta today. and temperatures off to the west 50's to near 60 degreesment there's still no real cold air that's moving in to the lower 48 for now. so we are going to see the temperatures close to normal overall this week but look at this rain here coming up from florida all the way up into the carolinas. in addition to that rain, we also have a new tropical depression. this is t.d.-12. the winds are about 35 miles an hour. with it, it is bringing rainfall to the bahamas. it's forecast to lift north ward and turn out to sea. but as it makes that turn some of that tropical moisture may interact with that storm over the southeast and enhance some of the rain as it works on up the coast. the heaviest rain will stay off shore. nonetheless we are looking at rain moving in during the day on tuesday after a dry morning commute. rain comes in late in the afternoon and during the evening hours. initially it's light. it gets heavier as we head toward tuesday night into first thing on weds we morning. it will start to pull away on wednesday afternoon. veterans day starts with wet weather.
