>> wrote boston' s news leader, this is wcvb newscenter 5 at noon. erika: breaking news right now at noon, more than 18 students rushed to the hospital because of a hazmat situation at a high school in boston. emily: sky 5 was over the scene as ambulances arrived at the boston arts academy. right now officials are saying those students were exposed to hydrochloric acid while in class. newscenter 5' s kelley tuthill is live at the scene. kelley: it is quiet here now.

going. all 23 students in the class were taken for evaluations. a boston schools spokesperson says that a chemistry class was conducting an experiment. the beakers they were using had hire a classic -- had hydrochloric acid left over in them from an experiment last week. that acid vapor rise in students acid vaporized and students began to feel ill. >> it tells me there was a response. kelley: the information still coming in, but at this link, some 23 students in a chemistry class -- at this point, some 23 students in a chemistry class are being checked out as a precaution. live in boston, kelley tuthill,

emily: also breaking right now, a rollover crash in mansfield on route 140 northbound, near exit 12 on 495. mansfield police and fire are on the scene. they are asking people to avoid the area. erika: just moments ago the president of the university of missouri system resigned. it comes after criticism of his handling of student complaints about race and discrimination. we will have much more on this breaking news, including a walk out by the football team, coming up a little later. emily: more breaking news, at least two americans killed in an attack in jordan. two other americans were hurt in this attack by a jordanian police captain at a training facility. that attacker was killed. the americans were part of a state department police training program. president obama says the u.s. is taking the attack very seriously. emily: the suspect accused of dragging two boston police officers with an suv is set to face a judge today. erika: the scary moments happened during a traffic stop, and the officers were still able to chase down the suspect.

live in dorchester with more. sera: even after chasing them down, there was still a violent struggle. luckily, those officers are doing ok. the suspect is waiting to be arraigned. 45-year-old bryant gilbert of dorchester is facing several charges for the violent incident yesterday evening. on stratton street around 7:00 p.m., two police officers pulled over a vehicle that was swerving and speeding. but the driver did not put the car in park as requested, instead stepped on the gas, dragging the two officers 100 yards. >> one was able to break loose. the other had to hop into the car. he hit some parked cars. sera: gilbert and his passenger then allegedly fled, the officers chased them, ending in

officers found a large amount of cash and several bags of marijuana. gilbert is set to be arraigned here on a variety of charges. live in dorchester, sera congi. erika: new at noon, a man is due in court accused of killing a woman last night in a lynn apartment. 44-year-old james woodbury will be arraigned on murder charges in the death of the 55-year-old woman. police found her body after responding to a call for a well-being check. erika: a merrimac woman who was reported missing yesterday is found dead. police and fire officials had been searching for 76-year-old helen noone in areas where she often went for walks. her body was found early today in a stream off mill and broad streets. the death is being investigated, although there' s no sign of foul play. emily: new at noon, boston mayor marty walsh signs a plan banning all replica handguns in the city. newscenter 5' s todd kazakiewich is live in roxbury.

todd: the fake handguns are sometimes referred to as "toys," but the message the city is sending is, these replicas are so life-like, they could very easily be mistaken for the real thing, causing a confrontation that could end in tragedy. -- that could be deadly. >> this is not a super-soaker. this can be a very dangerous thing. todd: this morning, in a room full of religious leaders and fake guns, boston mayor marty walsh signed an ordinance banning replica guns from public places in the city. mayor walsh: the police will be serious situation arises and the owner will be able to pick them up in person at the district but it' s also going to give us a chance to talk to parents. todd: more than 150 replicas have been taken off the street so far this year. many do not have the federally required orange or red tip on the muzzle. the new ordinance requires parents or guardians to accompany minors when retrieving replicas, which will give police an opportunity to educate the parents and children that these

newscenter 5 tonight and inside the wcvb app. emily: a meeting today will focus on changes to make a stretch of highway in oxford safer. this curve on route 20 was the site of last month' s crash that killed a young mother and her baby. the goal of the meeting, to make the curve safer before winter. officials have already made plans to install a guardrail in the middle of the road and widen it. emily: jury selection resumes today in the murder trial of the danvers teen, charged with raping and killing his teacher. eight jurors have been chosen so far to sit on the jury in the philip chism trial. eight more jurors are needed. chism is accused of murdering colleen ritzer at danvers high school two years ago. erika: the suspect in a brighton murder is due in court today. 25-year-old gammada musa is charged with shooting 30-year-old desmond joseph. the crime happened two weeks ago on telford street. officers discovered joseph with multiple gunshot wounds. a curry college student will be arraigned today charged with illegally possessing a gun, ammunition, and drugs in his dorm room. the college says tips from students led them to darius

last friday. he has been since been suspended from the school. emily: right now the grieving was found burned and dumped is and it might not be the one you 29-year-old ashley bortner' s body was found bound and burned along the railroad tracks last week. investigators have said they believe the new jersey native was targeted but they have not made any arrests or talked about bortner' s mother says her daughter used to live in hyde park. tamara pack tells "the herald," quote, "through god and his grace, i have forgiven the person who did this to my baby. i have to forgive him or i wouldn' t be able to go on." the young woman' s family is now asking for donations to help bring her body home to new jersey for a funeral. erika: today the state' s four medical schools will be taking action to help stop addiction before it starts. as we' ve often reported, the misuse of prescription painkillers can start a long road of addiction. the goal under this new agreement is for all 3,000 students enrolled at the state' s

today projects severe shortages in vocational industries in massachusetts over the next 7 years. the findings from northeastern university show 1.2 million jobs will be created in the state by 2022. however, many of those positions will not require a bachelor' s degree. and despite the wide openings in vocational jobs, including health care and manufacturing the state does not offer the training resources to meet demand. nice day out. cindy: not like the 70' s we had last week. in the month of november, we typically don' t talk about the tropics, but we have a tropical storm centered near the central bahamas. into a tropical storm with winds up to 25 -- 45 miles from our. away from the u.s. mainland and offshore. it is expected to turn off to the right. u.s. some of the tropical moisture may try to cede into a system --
