5:45 pm
that's all i can say to that one. wow. she's brave, that's for sure. let's talk about something that happened in the last number of hours. actually it happened today. a new tropical storm. remember, hurricane season goes until november 30th. it doesn't mean it can happen -- it can't happen beyond that. this is tropical storm kate. the track of kate is going to keep it pretty far to the east of the east coast of the united states. so it is not going to directly impact our weather. but independent of kate we have moisture on the way. it is probably a significant amount. you can see the first batch of rain moving toward the nation's capitol at this time. the clouds are not that far away. we saw a few nice thin clouds and it gave a pretty look to the sky. we have been telling you that boston's rainfall is way below average. it is not just for november which is still a young month, but for the year which is not very young. we are getting closer to the end. here is the rain that starts to come up. notice it does not affect us
5:46 pm
for the morning compute. you may have limited sunshine, though the clouds will be thickening. even at lunchtime i believe we will be dry. by the evening commute it is possible that the first thrust of rain will be moving into the region. and whrowrn that takes place, eventually overnight tomorrow night and into wednesday morning we are going to get some rain as the storm success stem intensities just to the south and east. we get into veteran's day and there is still going to be bands of rain moving through central and eastern mass. and it is going to be windy and cool at that time. but the heavy rain will lift north and east, but even in the afternoon, i would not expect clearing in eastern mass. the clouds could break before the day is out, perhaps west of worcester. as for how much rain, they are talking about different amounts. the best estimate i would say is half an inch to an inch locally. the higher amounts are possible around a southeastern mass and the cape. now, if the track comes closer, these amounts will all
5:47 pm
go up. if it is farther east they will go down from what you are seeing there. the wind advisory, when the storm makes its closest path say 1:00 a.m. wednesday to 4:00 p.m., that's when we are expecting the winds to be 20 to 30 and gusts 40 to 50. notice the time of the wind is a little later than the time range of the rain. then as it arrives on the backside it will be with us as the rain comes to an end. here is a projected look at wind. it is overnight and the gusts start to come into play and look at the clock for early wednesday morning. that's where there could be gusts greater than 40 miles an hour along the coast of southeastern mass and it could linger to wednesday afternoon and the winds start to diminish wednesday evening. they will have diminished farther inland. let's check things out for you in terms of the temperature. we have 40s and 50s now and by the time you wake up tomorrow morning some of the cold spots north and west will be freezing. boston will be in the 40s.
5:48 pm
we will edge into the 50s before the clouds really thicken and the rain commences later in the day. here is a look at your next seven. gave you the time line on the rain. a bit of a better break down and it does look like it has a wet start early on. the temperatures early on are going to be chilly too. only in the 40s. in fact, look at the high temperature there. it is just 49 degrees. thursday we may have lemed it sun early, but then a period of showers in the afternoon. it is leading to a not too cold friday, but a reinforcing cool shot will come in for most of the upcoming weekend. but there are already signs that early next week the temperatures will start to moderate again. so it looks like even though we have a chilly weekend, we are thought done with the above average temperatures for november quite yet. jc and phil? phil: thanks.
