lowell in may with a psychology degree. now in grad school pursuing a degree in social work so he can help others. massachusetts congressman, an iraq war veteran, mashed today's holiday with a forum on vets issues. the event is designed to establish a greater understanding between local veterans and the community. vets were encouraged to share their experience at that forum. >> flags of honor and appreciation in the town of oxford. the courage and sacrifice of veterans marked with a parade and commemoration. the playing of taps, a fitting tribute to all who have served their nation in war and peace. >> new at 5:30, a fight with the v.a. over his guide dog. he's legally blind and says the veterans administration told him to pay for the animal's healthcare on his own or get a new dog. pam tells us this battle is a complicated one. >> there we go. good boy. good boy.

>> this is a working partnership that gets them both across south station. david lynn left the air force after 14 years on duty. now healy blind 'll -- legally blind he needs a service dog. the veterans first dog died after seven years. lucas is a new replacement. >> forward. good boy. >> here's the problem. the v.a. recently decided that service dogs must come from an accredited agency or the feds won't pay the dog's healthcare bill. >> the v.a. for some odd reason is linking his healthcare to a school accreditation. >> he came from a nonprofit that provides dogs free of charge to the blind. lynn says the v.a. staff gave him a choice, pay the vet bills himself or return the dog. >> making it seem like this is just another piece of prosthetic gear, no different than an umbrella. you can just swap it out and get another one. >> vet bills could run a thousand dollars a years,

get it m. of us didn't get a lot of rain but some did. boston, a little over a half an inch. worcester, barely.2 of an inch. we barely made a dent in boston on the yearly deficit in precipitation. we're still way under the average. wind gusts were impressive along the coast at some points today. over 50 miles per hour in rock port. many between 40 and 50. blue hill almost 40 miles per hour. it's still a little bit windy along the coast but the accent is down around nantucket and that's where the wind advisory is in effect until 7:00. the winds at this point slowly but surely will ease. we still have a moist flow coming out of the northeast in the low levels of the atmosphere so it's still producing some bands of light rain or drizzle on the south shore and even though the overall aerial coverage has diminished, we're seeing some very light and drizzle still in southern parts of new hampshire working its way to northern massachusetts. it could still be damp a little bit longer. there really is only a narrow break in the clouds and i'm not

because we may not be able to get rid of the low-level break but the next system, which is a potent one in the middle of the country, you can see that swirl with snow on the west side and some severe weather on the east side, we're going to be on the east side of it but it will not be as potent coming through here night. probably a round of showers for expect. clouds look like they are going to hold for the most part tonight into tomorrow and then we'll await the arrival of the showers. the first band could move in, in the afternoon, even early afternoon in some spots, especially to the west and then there will be some more showers after that. it doesn't look like a major rainmaker but we'll have a few showers at times tomorrow afternoon into tomorrow night. then we're going to get into this little sliver of clearing for the first half of friday and it will be comparatively mild but it will also become windy and then we're going to be waiting -- the secondary front, to come through on friday night. when that comes through, there could be a brief shower in spots. maybe even a

snow flurry in the very highest elevations of western and northern new england and then chilly weather will come in on sunday -- on saturday, rather. but saturday should have a good deal of sunshine even though it will be decidedly colder. temperatures now are in the 40s and low 50s. won't change that much tonight and the high temperatures tomorrow, without too much sunshine, should still make it to 50 to 55. let's check it out for you. the winds in the next 12 hours, notice the trend, steadily down in boston. you won't have much wind to deal with tomorrow morning. afternoon showers into the night. day. lots of gusts. now saturday is the colder day, as we'll wind up on the cold side of the jet stream. but that's not going to really stick because by the time we get week we'll be back on the mild side of the jet stream and the high temperatures look like they are going to be a degree or two plus or minus 60 for a fair part of next week. so next week will also be above
