>> two boston police officers credited with saving a veteran who was threatening to hurt himself on an mbta bus on veterans day. new at 6:00 tonight we' re , hearing from one of those officers. newscenter 5' s jack harper is live in dorchester. jack: by 17 was making the turn, and when it did they happen to be in the right spot to see it 27 year veteran, captain who was working the detail. >> the bus driver runs off the bus grabs me and says there' s a man on the bus with a hatchet to his neck. i get on the bus and sure enough there is a gentlemen with a -- of gentlemen about 50 years old, sitting down with a hatchet up to his neck making scratch marks with the sharp edge. i am trying to talk him into putting the hatchet down and he is not going for it. he is like i just got kicked out , of the shelter and i have got no reason to live.

only push more families out to the suburbs. the long battle in south boston has now landed in court. a developers plan to convert the shuttered catholic school into 26 condos has prompted a lawsuit from a neighborhood group which has long opposed the project. >> we are losing the middle class in south boston and across the entire city. >> the gate of heaven neighborhood association said the condos are enough and that families here need more options to educate their children. >> the school has been closed since 2008 and neighbors feel strongly it should be replaced with another school. >> the church always says they want to do what is best for the community. the best for the community would be a good charter school. >> alternatively the neighborhood favors senior housing. they say condos put a strain on the already short supply of parking. the developer, who could not be reached for comment, has said previously a school wasn' t viable. both the mayor'
