i'm erika tarantal. we do want to begin with a check of the weather. danielle is here. it is windy and cold. danielle: erika, antoinette, good morning. that is right. the big story today is those winds. you're going to feel them when you step outside the door this morning. we're starting out with winds sustained at about 15 miles an hour now in worcester. pittsfield. nantucket. now these are just sustained. gusts are over 30 and even up to about 40 miles an hour now on temperatures are start inning the 30's and 40's this morning but when you factor in the winds it's the wind chill values which is what you dress for. so everybody feels like the 30's and even the 20's out in western mass. so it's a chilly start. bundle up. if you're headed outside first thing. and today the temperatures don't budge all that much. take a look. we're in the low to mid 40's through the afternoon looking at mostly sunny skies though. those winds out of the north and

6:04 am
those eight are also dead this morning. the attackers ruthless, sophisticated, and well-coordinated. the eight killers almost simultaneously attacking soft targets in the french capital, throwing the city into chaos. the majority of those killed were at a packed concert hall where american rock band "eagles of death metal" was playing. more than 100 there were killed as the gunmen held those concert-goers hostage. elsewhere, gunmen stormed restaurants and triggered deadly explosions just outside the national stadium during a soccer match. >> we heard huge gunshots and lots of glass coming through the window so we ducked on to the floor with all the other diners and we heard numerous more gunshots. >> i heard the ak47 go off. and then the screaming and then immediately afterwards, the

6:06 am
in that same fashion. erika: outside the french consulate in boston, flowers are a show of respect and solidarity. the paris tragedy felt profoundly here. cities around the world keenly aware of the ever-present threat of terrorism. our sera congi continues our breaking news coverage, live in boston, where security has been stepped up. sera? sera: erika, there's no specific threats against boston right now but state and federal officials taking no chances. logan and the td garden where the bruins are playing tonight all getting extra attention. the state police tell us that they are monitoring the situation. they're keeping in touch with the folks at the joint terrorism task force to find out if there is any reason to be concerned here locally. terror experts say the attacks are especially alarming because they went undetected. harvard university's dr. leonard marcus says that fact is very concerning because france has been on high alert since the deadly attack earlier this year that targeted a newspaper. security has now been heightened for the upcoming climate summit that president obama is expected to attend.
6:07 am
dr. marcus says experts will look to connect the dots to other recent terror-relatedded incidents like that russian passenger plane that crashed two weeks ago. >> trying to understand what is going on, who is talking to whom. what are the plans. what are the organizations? what are the funding schemes? sera: until those questions can cautious and told to be extra vigilant. transit police, the mbta police are, are encouraging customers to report any suspicious activity or report any unattended packages. see something, say something. again no specific threats against boston or here in massachusetts. officials are taking every precaution necessary. live at the garden this morning, sera congi, wcvb, newscenter 5. antoinette: thank you. the band u2 has canceled its planned show in paris tonight because of the state of emergency. they had planned to film the show for an hbo special. in a statement posted on their website last night, u2 says, "we watched in disbelief and

miles an hour now on nantucket. very, very strong winds outside. it's going to be that way throughout the entire day. now you factor in those winds with the current air temperature and you get a wind chill about 36 degrees in boston. that's what you're going to dress for through the afternoon. so as we go through the afternoon, winds are anywhere from 20 to about 30 miles an hour sustained. gusts upwards of 40 miles an hour so it's blustery and it's cold outside. pressure. the winds around it counterclockwise. it's also kicking up some snow showers up through parts of northern vermont, upstater new york. you can see lake-effect snow coming off ontario and lake erie into central pennsylvania. some of these flurries may make it into western mass and southern vermont before things start to wind on down. we look for a lot of sunshine throughout the afternoon. in fact, that's what happens as you can see on that future cast. so through the day today, tons of sun.
