terror attacks in paris this morning. this is a live look from paris. you can see there is still a stepped-up police presence there. at this hour we know at least 127 people were killed. security is also stepped up all around the world as well as right here in boston. our coverage continues in just a moment, but first thank you for joining us on this saturday, november 14. i'm antoinette antonio. erika: thanks for starting your day right here. i'm erika tarantal. we want to check in with danielle. we have a windy start making it feel colder than it. danielle: that is the story of the day. the winds are very strong. temperatures starting in the 30's and 40's, but feeling more like the 30's and 20's out there this morning. you're starting at 39 in worcester. 44 in boston. the winds though sustained at about 13 miles an hour in boston. 22 miles an hour now on nantucket. and now 33-mile-per-hour winds sustained in springfield. so gusts are over 40 miles an hour. it is blustery.

degrees in pittsfield, like 32 in worcester and like 38 degrees in boston. so remember if you're headed out the door right now, you need to bundle up. as we go through the afternoon, unfortunately we don't do much with the temperatures. we hold really in the 40's through the afternoon. we'll see a mix of sun and clouds. we are seeing a couple of snow flurries out in western mass. actually now a couple of light rain showers popping up, say, near woburn, north reading, back to acton. very light in nature. it's really just sprinkles. this quickly moves out of here. we'll see more sunshine by the afternoon but there are good chances for rain in the seven-day forecast. i'll have the timeline ahead. antoinette and erika. antoinette: danielle, thank you. breaking news this morning. the city of paris and the world in shock after a wave of deadly terror attacks. france's president confirms 127 people are dead. an intense, international investigation now underway. erika: live team coverage begins

this morning with the nick coal killian. security in boston. erika: we do begin with frank holland and the intense international investigation now underway. frank: antoinette and erika, isis has released a statement taking responsibility for the deadly paris terror attacks. french authorities now searching for anyone who helped the isis terrorists. the city of paris thrown into chaos. this is new video in our newsroom. it shows people in paris jumping out of windows from a building trying to escape one of those terror attacks. here's what we know right now. at least 127 people have been killed. a state of emergency has been declared in france. the military mobilized and borders closed. those eight terror of the iz are dead this morning. the attackers described as ruthless, sophisticate,d, and well-coordinated. the isis terrorists attacking soft targets including a soccer stadium, several restaurants, and a packed concert hall. the government also taking hostages at the concert venue the gunmen held those concert-goers hostage. authorities say they found the

body of a suicide bomber outside the soccer stadium. >> all of a sudden we heard huge gunshots and lots of glass coming through the window so we ducked on to the floor with all the other diners and we heard numerous more gunshots. >> i heard the ak47 go off. and then the screaming. and then immediately afterward, the second bomb over at the soccer stadium. the president of france in the stands at the game. he had to be ushered to safety. the president of france calling the attacks an act of war. three days of national mourning begin in france today. erika: outside the french consulate in boston, flowers are a show of respect and solidarity. the paris tragedy felt profoundly here. cities around the world keenly aware of the ever-present threat of terrorism. our sera congi continues our breaking news coverage, live in boston, where security has been stepped up.

sera? sera: erika, there are no specific threats against boston but officials are not taking any chances. logan airport and the td garden here where the bruins are playing tonight already getting some increased security. the state police tell us that they are monitoring the situation. and they're monitoring worldwide intelligence with the help of the joint terrorism task force. terror experts say the attacks are especially alarming because they went undetected. harvard university's dr. leonard marcus says that fact is very concerning because france has been on high alert since the deadly attack earlier this year that targeted a newspaper. security has now been heightened for the upcoming climate summit that president obama is expected to attend. dr. marcus says experts will look to connect the dots to other recent terror-related incidents like that russian passenger plane that crashed two weeks ago. >> trying to understand what is going on, who is talking to whom. what are the plans.

what are the organizations? what are the funding schemes? sera: until those questions can be answered, everyone being very cautious and told to be extra vigilant. transit police, the mbta police are, are encouraging customers to report any suspicious activity or report any unattended packages. again no specific threats against boston or here in massachusetts. but officials are taking precautions. live at the garden this morning, sera congi, wcvb, newscenter 5. antoinette: thank you. outrage around the world over the attacks. newscenter 5's nikole killion is live in washington now with reaction. nikole, president obama is already reaching out to leaders in france. reporter: that's right, antoinette. and also french president francois hollande called, convening a special security meeting this morning. he also declared a state of emergency, deploying troops and is tightening the nation's border. today many businesses including disney's popular theme park outside of paris are shut down. overnight, president obama spoke with hollande expressing the

support. president: this is an attack not just on paris. it's an attack not just on the people of france. this is an attack on all of humanity and the universal values we share. reporter: this morning at a conference in syria in vienna, secretary of state john kerry also weighing in on the paris attacks calling them vile and atrocious and pledging that the u.s. will standby france. antoinette? antoinette: thank you for that report. the band u2 has canceled its planned show in paris tonight because of the state of emergency. they had planned to film the show for an hbo special. in a statement posted on their website last night, u2 says, "we watched in disbelief and shock at the unfolding events in paris, and our hearts go out to all the victims and their families across the city tonight." erika: yesterday's horrific attacks just a short distance from charlie hebdo, the scene of that deadly terror attack just ten months ago.

hurt there in january. two brothers stormed the offices of the french satirical magazine, gunning down employees. paris was on high alert for days as police launched a massive manhunt for the brothers. they were killed by french police after a shootout. looking live again on the streets of paris this morning. police are everywhere. that city really on lockdown. the nation has closed its borders. of course, everyone on high alert and in mourning. we'll continue to closely monitor the situation there and bring you any updates as they happen. antoinette: boston marathon bomber dzhokhar tsarnaev-- already sentenced to death-- will get the chance to argue for a new trial. tsarnaev's lawyers say he never because of media coverage and the fact that the trial was held in boston. december 1 in boston federal court. tsarnaev was convicted earlier this year and sentenced to death in the 2013 bombing that killed three people and injured more than 260. erika: right now the search for a missing plymouth state university

underway. university officials say jake nawn who is from holden, massachusetts, disappeared near a river. police have been using canine teams along with boats and kayaks to search for the 23-year-old student. this morning his friends plan to meet at the plymouth community gardens to search the area for him. antoinette: a rhode island cemetery worker who stole granite gravestones of veterans home has been handed down his punishment. 59-year-old kevin maynard was sentenced to 200 hours of community service to help veterans and a year of probation. maynard pleaded guilty in july for taking gravestones and other items from the veterans' memorial cemetery in exeter. investigators found more than 100 grave markers being used as flooring at maynard's home in charlestown. erika: it's now 8:09. ahead "5 on the opoid crisis." antoinette: the key information parents need to spot some real dangers. and a firey collision out west. the accident that sent flames shooting hundreds of feet high. frank?

claiming responsibility for the deadly terror attacks in paris. right now, we know eight people who carried out these attacks throughout the city are all dead. police continue to hunt for the people who helped the isis terrorists. this was a brutal, coordinated wave of attacks at six different "soft targets" in paris. there were shootings, explosions, and a hostage situation at a concert hall where an american band was playing. right now travel restrictions are in place in france, and a state of emergency has been declared. the president of france has called this an act of war. here at home state and local police are on high alert. however, there are no specific threats against boston right now. erika? important feature in paris during the terror attacks. users were able to notify friends and family they were safe through the site's "safety check" tool. the "safety check" tool has been used 5 times since it launched last year. the other times followed natural antoinette: 5 on the opoid crisis and beyond. this morning, newscenter 5's todd kazakiewich takes us inside

dangers. todd: at first glance this might appear to be a typical teenager's bedroom, but this is fake. it's been staged to educate parents about ways teens could be hiding drugs in plain sight. >> one item you might see on a kid's bed stand would be a watch. you might not think anything of it, but you can actually open the watch and it could be a grinder. for pills. yep, for grinding pills. todd: there are 60 items hidden in plain sight in this room including drugs and drug paraphernalia that parents could easily miss. "hidden in plain sight" is the name of this exhibit. on loan from south shore hospital. and currently on display through saturday at the sandwich rec center for people over the age of 22. this mock bedroom is filled with containers that can be bought online and easily mask drugs and alcohol. we were asked not to reveal all the secrets. but we can tell you that none of the parents who toured this have

found all of the hidden items. >> you see a key chain? it might look like a normal key chain. you might not really think anything of this. but as you can unscrew it, it can turn into a one-hitter they call it. it can actually be paraphernalia. todd: tours began on thursday. police and antidrug specialists say the goal is not to promote parental snooping but to educate parents and to encourage parents and children to have an open dialogue about drugs. in sandwich, todd kazakiewich, wcvb, newscenter 5. >> now your storm team 5 forecast with meterologist danielle vollmar. antoinette: good news is we're up about 677 degrees from where we were earlier this morning. erika: the you can't tell. danielle: the wind is strong ran gusting upwards of 30-40 miles an hour in spots making it feel even colder outside. so bundle up. that's all i'm saying. yesterday's temperatures were in

the upper 50's in boston. mid 50's in worcester. today we're only going into the mid 40's in boston. low 40's in worcester. that's about a 15-degree temperature change. and the big player is this. that west-northwest wind gusting now upwards of 34 miles an hour in boston. to 41 miles an hour now on nantucket. we have very gusty winds. hang on to your hats, folks. it will be breezy out there. it continues through the afternoon with winds anywhere from 15 to about 30 miles an hour. we should see a mix of sun and clouds although mostly sunny later today. the big story is the wind chill values so with the wind, what does it actually feel like outside? by lunchtime, it feels like the mid 30's in boston. in worcester, it still feels like the 20's. you go towards the afternoon, you're feeling like the upper 30's in boston and low 30's in worcester. and then as we head through the evening and into the overnight, if you're stepping outside tonight, grab a winter coat. it will feel more like the 20's.

it's also going to feel like the 20's tomorrow morning too. so just get ready. it's all due to this area of low pressure. very strong winds coming behind it. this area of loarn also triggering some snow showers up through northern new england and even into western mass we've seen a couple of flurries. but now triggering a couple of rain showers. spot rain showers though in and around boston, near lynne, out towards gloucester, cape ann. even the merrimack valley seeing a couple of light rain showers. sprinkles at best. we should clear out as we head through the afternoon. that's what the future cast indicates. so we'll see sunshine. unfortunately though it's a cold, raw, blustery day outside today. highs only going to climb to the low 40's in worcester. 44 in boston. and 49 degrees on nantucket. and then tonight, the winds continue to pump out of the west at about 10-15. we'll see overnight lows in the 20's and 30's. and tomorrow the wind does shift back to the west which is a little bit of a warming win for

us. so temperatures should warm back up into the mid to upper 50's so it's a break from the real cold. we're milder tomorrow. we're even mild on monday. mid 50's for highs to even upper 50's but we're watching this dry cold front. it's going to come through on the day of monday. what that will do is usher in much colder air so's a we head towards tuesday, take a look at your high temperatures. only warming into the upper 40's and even a few mid 40's on the maps to right around 50 degrees. but don't get too used to it. we're back up on wednesday. milder air moves on in for the end of the week and also with that comes some much-needed rain. antoinette and erika. antoinette: thank you. time now is 8:19. some of the stories we're following right now. erika: one person is dead, and three others injured in bakersfield, california, where a piece of large farm equipment hit a gas line sparking massive flames. take a look. fire officials said that these flames were shooting up about 200 feet high. the fire could be seen from miles away. the incident is now under investigation.

people are injured, six critically, after this double-decker tour bus crash in san francisco. police say the careening bus smashed into a bicyclist and several cars before slamming into a building under construction. the open-top bus was speeding before it crashed into the tourist-packed union square. it's unclear how the bus lost control. erika: the supreme court says it will hear a challenge to key parts of the abortion law in texas. supporters argue the restrictions are meant to protect women's health. opponents say it's a disguised attempt to limit and eventually end all abortions. the court has not heard a major abortion case since 2007. its decision will likely come down sometime next spring or early summer. antoinette: several tires on at least a dozen cars in brockton slashed. security at signature healthcare brockton hospital reported that 12 employee cars had their tires slashed in the parking lot thursday night. the s.u.v. in this photo had all four tires popped. brockton police received reports of slashed tires in three additional locations as well.

they say it appears the victims were randomly targeted. >> now sportscenter 5 with bob halloran. bob: sometimes you're looking for your car keys and you end up finding an old pair of reading glasses you lost. the red sox president was out looking for an ace and came up with a closer, a real good closer. the red sox send four prospects to san diego for craig kimbre, a 27-year-old who leads the major with 224 saves over the past five seasons. move over koji. kimbrel, a four-time all star, will always be closing. a big win for the celtics home against the hawks. amir johnson running the floor on the break. he gets ball. ball gets dunked. johnson has 19. the celtics on their way to building a 15-point lead in the third quarter but the hawks clawed back. isiah thomas knocks down one of his four threes. he led the celtics with 23 points. three-point game very late. celtics close out the game on a

30's through the afternoon. now as windy tomorrow. still breezy though and a milder afternoon with temperatures in the mid 50's. antoinette and erika. antoinette: danielle, thank you. the r.m.v. is explaining itself after granting a massachusetts woman an unusual request. erika: she has won the right to wear a colander on her head in her license picture. lindsay miller is a "pastafarian" and a member of the church of the flying spaghetti monster. she says pastafarians who believe the universe could have been created by a "flying spaghetti monster" are encouraged to wear the spaghetti strainers in their i.d. photos. the r.m.v. originally denied miller's request but later relented after pressure from the secular group. >> you're discriminating against us just because you haven't heard of us. there's like so many thousands of religions. how are you going to know all of them? i hope this helps open the door so other people can go and don't have to have that hassle. erika: the r.m.v. released a statement saying "the r.m.v. processed the customer's request

wind gusts sustained at 30-40 miles an hour now. it's making these temperatures you see this morning in the 40's and 30's. it feels more like the 30's and even the 20's. so bundle up if you're headed outside. you see it's 39 in worcester. 45 taunton and new bedford. 48 on the vineyard. and the lower 40's through the merrimack valley. as we go through the next 12 hours, say, in boston, we're only going to really warm up into the mid 40's for high temperatures. we'll look for a mix of sun and clouds today although becoming sunny by afternoon. you can see these are the winds sustained at about 10-20 miles an hour, making it feel more like 38 in boston. like 21 in pits field and like 29 in concord. so it's a chilly start out there this morning. temperatures won't budge that much. 41-48 today. the winds continue to houle out of the north and west at about 15-30 miles an hour. now we've had some snow flurries out in western mass.

who helped the isis terrorists. the streets of paris look like a battlefield as armed men dropped multiple targets. more than 100 people have been killed after terrorists attack with automatic weapons and explosives. >> we heard a bunch of gunshots, maybe 8-10. there was a pause and a few more. frank: explosions rocked a soccer stadium while a game was underway. the worst carnage at this theater where gunmen took many concert goers hostage. an american band performing on stage. >> they heard the gun fire and said it was louder than what they were even playing. they heard screaming and yelling. frank: security forces rushed the building. concert goers could be seen running from the halls, hands on their heads. one official said the gunman tossed explosives at the hostages, a horrifying scene inside according to witnesses. a crowded restaurant also among at least six locations under fire.

really loud gunshots and bullets coming through the windows. i saw a woman next to me, i was holding on to her. i could see a pool of blood around her. she had been shot i think in the chest and was fatally wounded. frank: as police scramble to secure the streets stunned parisiennes run for shelter wondering where the terrorists would strike next. president obama promised to stand with the french people. >> this is an attack on all of humanity and the universal values that we share. frank: the french president has called the attacks an "act of war." three days of national mourning in france begin today. antoinette: breaking news just outside of loaned often this morning. just hours after the terrorists attack in paris british police have arrested a man and called in explosive specialists at gatwick. the north terminal at britain's second busiest airport has been evacuated this morning. police say they were tracking a man who was acting suspiciously.

he was seen tossing an unidentified item somewhere at the airport. a live look right now outside the french consulate in boston this morning where flowers are a show of respect and solidarity. the paris tragedy felt profoundly here. while there's no immediate threat officials are stepping up security all around the city. our sera congi continues our breaking news coverage live outside the td garden. sera: sources telling newscenter 5 homeland security was doubled here at the garden for the celtics game and there will be extra security tonight for the bruins game. all of this as a pre-augusts. security is being stepped up around the country. that includes at major sporting events throughout the weekend. in boston additional homeland security could be seen at the garden during the celtics game. a league source tells newscenter 5 the nba advised teams playing to be on heightened alert. bruins fans will see similar security at tonight's game. nhl deputy commissioner bill

clubs "to be on heightened alert given the events in paris." there are no specific threats to massachusetts but state police tells us they've ramped up patrols at logan airport and are monitoring worldwide intelligence with their partners in the joint terrorism task force. there is also stepped-up security at the state house now and on mbta trains and buses. transit police encouraging customers to be extra vigilant and report any suspicious activity or unattended packages. it is important to note that there is no specific threat against boston or in massachusetts. however, law enforcement agencies are not taking any chances. live in boston, sera congi, wcvb, newscenter 5. antoinette: right now secretary of state john kerry is in austria meeting about the conflict in syria with with russia's foreign minster. but the terror attacks in paris is dominating the talks. kerry: we are in absolute and

of attacks are the most vile, horrendous, outrageous, unacceptable acts on the planet. antoinette: russia's foreign minister adding that the world should have no tolerance for terrorists. erika: baystate congressman bill keating says he's been speaking with the french for months about their efforts to fight this kind of terrorism. keating sits on the homeland security and foreign affairs committees. he was in paris just a few months ago discussing the potential for this kind of attack. french officials are attempting to track thousands of citizens who have left to fight for isis in syria and iraq. he says france has the best counterterrorism force in europe. keating: they're very good at what they do. if they are subject to this attack, it really casts light on the fact that this could happen any place in europe and indeed strike here in the u.s. erika: congressman keating says he will continue to monitor developments and receive briefings throughout the weekend. antoinette: a symbol of the 9/11

frank has more on a tough week for wall street. frank: erika, stocks had their worst week since august. that ended a six-week winning streak. here is a look at the numbers. the dow had the biggest fall, 200 points. the nasdaq down 77 points. the s&p dropped 22 points. many analysts believe the decline in stocks was caused by falling oil prices and disappointing earnings reports from some major retailers. boston mayor marty walsh weighing in on the debate over fantasy sports sites. he says the debate over whether it is a game of chance or skill depends on the player. walsh: obviously if you're a person, a random person who doesn't really know football, doesn't really understand what the sport is all about, you go in there and pick tom brady and gronkowski and all your favorites, but if you're somebody who follows football closely, you know the whole league and the players, it's really a game of skill. frank: mayor walsh said he's never played the game but that he probably should to get a better understanding of the industry. he wants to make sure draft kings stays in boston.

you because even though it's 44 degrees, with a strong wind out of the west, it feels more like the 30's. that's the wind chill values, what you dress for, and the camera is shaking just a touch. so wind gusts in excess of 30 to even 40 miles an hour on nantucket. and as we go through the next 12 hours, temperatures really hold in the mid 40's through the afternoon. we should see more sunshine, too, through the afternoon as we begin to see these clouds pull away. the wind is all due to this area of low pressure. also light snow showers out towards western mass, northern new england. we've seen a couple of sprinkles through boston. we really do need the rain because we're down over eight inches in boston. but not necessarily going to get it today. in fact, the big story is the cold and the wind. it continues through tonight and through the overnight hours. then high pressure builds in for tomorrow, and the winds lessen just a touch.

warmer through the afternoon. so tomorrow is the warmer of the two days. today, 40 worcester. 44 degrees in nashua as well as boston. mid 40's on the cape. upper 40's on nantucket. and for tonight, temperatures drop back into the 20's through the merrimack valley. low 30's in worcester. mid 30's in boston. and then tomorrow we will warm up into the mid 50's for a few even upper 50's. it's warmer through the afternoon. now on monday we are dry but temperatures are going to drop throughout the day. as a cold front comes through. although we will warm up to a high of about the mid 50's. then as we head towards tuesday, we turn much colder. in fact, temperatures on tuesday only warming into the mid 40's and a few upper 40's with those winds out of the north at about 5-10. we turn milder on wednesday. then we look for a chance for some much-needed rain that's coming on thursday into friday. now one thing that is going to
