(french national anthem) antoinette: the city of boston standing in solidarity with paris. the focus on safety, and the tributes planned for today. >> you're watching wcvb, boston's news leader. good morning! this is newscenter 5's "eyeopener." antoinette: right here is that show of solidarity with paris as we take a live look from the growing memorial outside the french consulate in boston. the city standing with the people of france. our coverage of the terror attacks and the investigation continues in just one moment but first it is just after 6:00 on this sunday, november 15. good morning to you. i'm antoinette antonio. jc: i'm j.c. monahan. we want to get right over to danielle with the rather chilly start this morning, danielle. danielle: good morning, j.c. and antoinette. yes, it's cold out there. temperatures starting in the 30's and 20's across the area. actually it's 14 degrees on mt. washington.

worcester. 38 degrees in boston. it is is in the 40's now on nan tublght and the vineyard. and then you have to factor in those winds because they're out of the west. they're anywhere from about 10 to now 17 miles an hour sustained on nantucket. and that makes it feel even colder outside. so it feels more like 23 in worcester, like 25 in orange and lawrence. and 26 right now in portsmouth. there. we do have a lot of sunshine though to start the day. but then we'll see more clouds through the afternoon. 51 to 56. it will be milder this afternoon that's the good news. unlike yesterday afternoon. and the winds will not be as brisk as they were yesterday. so let's show you the satellite and radar right now. pretty much not much going on as weather. again, it will be a mix of sun and clouds through the day today. but the good news is there is some chances for rain in that search-day forecast.

we could really use it so i'll time it out for you ahead. antoinette. antoinette: danielle, thank you. breaking news in the paris terror attacks as the world stands in solidarity following the massacre. monuments lit up around the globe last night including boston's zakim bridge. jc: 129 people killed; more than 350 injured. this morning, we know three teams of terrorists are responsible. antoinette: none of those attackers surviving. the eye's frank holland joins us with the new developments. frank? frank: antoinette and jc, the u.s. is now considering ramping up military efforts against isis in iraq and syria after the terror group claimed responsibility for the pari attack. president obama arrived in turkey overnight for the g-20 summit. the meeting with world leaders on economic issues has taken on new urgency after the paris attacks. mr. obama is scheduled to meet with the turkish president before entering broader discussions. that's as the f.b.i. sends a team to paris to investigate the attacks. thousands of french soldiers have already been deployed, and tourist attractions are shut down. this morning, police are still

blocking off the six scenes where terrorists killled at least 129 people and injured 350 more. american nohemi gonzalez, a student from cal state long beach, is among the victims. >> she brought joy, happiness, laughter to everybody she worked with. >> the man said, "you killed our brothers in syria, and now we're here." frank: investigators say the coordinated attacks were carried out by men, all wearing identical suicide vests. police are still working to identify some of the attackers, one of which lived in france until 2012. three people were also taken into custody in belgium, believed to be connected to the attacks. french leaders say their country is now at war with isis, and they are vowing to destroy those responsible. antoinette: a rally of support will be held today on the boston common. that's as a memorial grows at the french consulate in the city. the eyeopener's nneka faison continues our team coverage from there this morning with the show of solidarity.

nneka: it is still early this morning but we've already seen several people stop by the french consulate here in boston to pay their respects for the victims of the paris attacks. but there really has been a show of sol indicater all throughout the city this weekend. yesterday, the french flag was raised at city hall. bostonians laying flowers and writing messages of condolence and hope. we spoke to former newscenter 5 producer ed keohane is vacationing in paris this week. he's among many who are drawing a connection to the 2013 marathon attacks. >> it's really interesting to be bostonian in paris today. the scope clearly of this different, but i think the emotions are so strikingly similar. nneka: a mass will be held in boston today at the cathedral of the holy cross in the south end. boston mayor marty walsh and governor charlie baker are

tribute on boston common. live at the french consulate in boston, nneka faison, wcvb, newscenter 5. antoinette: a heartwarming message from the sister of martin richard, the youngest victim in the marathon bombing attacks. we all remember this iconic picture of martin taken before the sign reads, "no more hurting people, peace." the martin richard foundation now posting this image to facebook with the caption "to paris with love, from jane." jane is martin's younger sister who lost a leg in the bombing. her sign is written in french with the same message as her older brother. jc: a colorful show of support in boston. the lenox hotel and the prudential building among several locations displaying the blue, white, and red of the french flag. security, a top concern this morning in the city. extra attention being paid to the t.d. garden where the bruins played last night. that game, beginning with an emotional tribute-- the playing

(french national anthem) newscenter5's coverage continues. our todd kazakiewich on the work being done to keep boston safe. todd: the terror attacks friday night in paris led to the precautionary measure of extra security saturday night for the bruins/red wings' game at the garden. outside, the french national colors were proudly on display. mayor walsh says boston mourns with the french and, like paris, must be vigilant. mayor: it just shows you that we have to be very diligent in keeping our eyes open to what we see. if you see anything that's suspicious, call 911. don't take anything for granted. todd: as the enormity and depravity of the terror attack in paris begins sinking in around the world so does the desperate desire to comprehend what happened and why. >> why paris? why france? well, france has the largest muslim minority in western europe, around five million or

so. todd: boston college associate professor jonathan laurence has written extensively about the integration of islam into french culture. he says isis has been quite successful in recruiting muslims from france and then turning them into terrorists targeting france. professor: france-- because of its position in our world as a former colonial power-- is susceptible to this sort of attack. because of its insistence on certain rules of public religion and in particular their banning of the head scarf and the niqab in public spaces. todd: obviously the u.s. could very well be a target for isis too. just like the nhl and the nba, the nfl is beefing up security as well inside stadiums and outside in the parking lot. fans are being told not to bring bags. but if bags must be brought in, they must be small and they must be clear. reporting outside the garden, todd kazakiewich, wcvb, newscenter 5.

following right now: police are investigating reports of a child found injured inside a home in alexandria, new hampshire. state and local police have been around the house since friday. no other details have been made available. the death of a pregnant rhode island woman and her unborn baby is being treated as a homicide. cranston police say the body of 32-year-old aliss collins was found friday night inside a burning home in cranston. collins and her unborn baby were rushed to the hospital where they were pronounced dead. firefighters say the condition of the apartment looked suspicious. police are searching for a man witnesses saw leaving the building just after the fire started. antoinette: newscenter 5 on the opioid crisis. ludlow police want to know who's behind several deadly overdoses in the last two weeks. police say in that time, they've responded to six overdose calls regarding heroin. they say the blend is toxic and has resulted in at least two deaths. they want to know who is distributing the drug.

antoinette: it is 6:14 on this sunday morning. consulate in boston. a memorial continues to grow for the victims of the paris terror attacks. the eye's frank holland is tracking new developments in the investigation. frank? three teams of terrorists are responsible for the attacks at six scenes across the city. all of them, wearing identical suicide vests. none of those attackers survived

after they massacred 129 people and injured at least 350 more. among them, an american college student. the f.b.i. is now sending a team to paris. overnight, president obama arrived in turkey for the g-20 summit, which is sure to place more emphasis on terrorist groups. the u.s. is now considering elevating military efforts against isis in iraq and syria. jc? jc: some of the music industry's top entertainers are cancelling shows, following the attacks. the foo fighters are now cancelling the rest of their european tour as a show of respect for the victims and survivors. u2 already cancelled two concert sets scheduled in paris this weekend. coldplay opted out of a live-stream concert last night. >> now your storm team 5 forecast with meterologist danielle vollmar. antoinette: a nice brisk 33 degrees outside. you know, it's refreshing. who needs coffee. it will wake you up. it just smacks you in the face out the door. danielle: it's cold. let's just put it that way. it's cold.

it's brisk. it's windy outside. although not as windy as yesterday. that's the good news, ladies. it's a chilly start but this afternoon it will be milder. in fact, the winds continue to blow but not as bad as yesterday. we actually finished the workweek out on the milder side. however, temperatures take a little bit of a dip before we get there. over boston now. it's a gorgeous sunrise. yesterday we had some impressive wind gusts. wind gusts in excess of 54 miles an hour at blue hill. on nantucket, 53-mile-per-hour wind gusts. you can see pretty strong winds through the day. winds today will not be that strong, but we will still have gusts up to about 30 miles an hour through the afternoon. already seeing at newport 28-mile-per-hour wind gusts now. on nantucket a 25-mile-per-hour wind gust. with the winds though, it's making it feel even colder outside. these are actual air temperatures.

orange, 25 in keene, 31 in lawrence. boston is actually milder at 38. and nantucket is starting at 44. but then you factor in those winds in boston actually feels more like 31 degrees this morning. worcester, you feel like 23 degrees. so if you are headed out right now, grab the winter coat. you will need it. by afternoon, temperatures will warm up into the mid 50's. it's going to feel a lot better outside than yesterday afternoon. and there will be a mix of sun and clouds just like yesterday too. in fact, as you look at satellite and radar, there's not much in the way of clouds right now. in fact, we're clearing just a touch but i think more clouds filter on in as we head towards mid morning and into early afternoon. now high pressure is dominating our weather so that means it's a dry forecast. it also has turned the winds to the west today so it's a little bit of a warming wind versus a northwest wind we saw yesterday. now, we are looking at this cold

this is actually going to be a back-door cold front that comes through tomorrow. that will drop our temperatures back, unfortunately, for tuesday. but today it's milder through the afternoon at least. here are those clouds working their way in by, say, 9:00. and then they're inside boston by about 10:00 or 11:00. they continue to hang around through the afternoon. but it will be a mix of sun and clouds. we'll see a lot of sunshine too. they are really high, thin clouds. temperatures tonight with the clouds around will only fall into the 30's through the merrimack valley and worcester. 44 in boston and 44 on the cape. so it's a little milder overnight as well. and then tomorrow we do it all over again. we have more sunshine tomorrow, i think. and temperatures will warm up into the mid 50's so another mild day on tap. but then again, that cold front is going to come through. it turns the temperatures cooler on tuesday. in fact, here are your high temperatures. 44 worcester. 46 boston. 50 degrees on nantucket with a

northeast wind at about 5-10. we turn sunny and warmer on wednesday. look at thursday. temperatures soar into the upper 50's, maybe even low 60's in spots. that's out ahead of a warm front. then a cold front comes through as well bringing us some much-needed rain beginning thursday afternoon. that continues and looks to be a slow-moving front into and through the day of friday. j.c. jc: thank you, danielle. a big upset in the u.f.c. ring. holly holm pulls off a stunning victory against ronda rousey, knocking the champion out in the second round. the veteran boxing champ kept pace with the undefeated rousey, delivering blow after blow in the first round. but a solid kick to rousey's head in the second sealed the deal ending the former champ's winning streak. >> now sportscenter 5 with bob halloran. bob: exercising extreme caution following the terror attacks in paris, the nfl has announced it

will be at security at all games today. additionally the nng state police say they'll increase the number of troopers at met life stadium where the patriots will face the giants. bruins home against the red wings last night. second period and the bruins score not once not twice but thrice. patrice bergeron poking home the rebound of his own shot. his sixth of the year. four minutes later david krejci moves in to the offensive zone make a pretty move inside the circle and snaps one off. his 8th goal and first in seven games. good to see that. 2-0 bruins. krug takes the feed from marchand. buries the shot 3-0. then it was up to tuukka rask to make a stand up by standing his head. he did. another nice save to frustrates the wings and the bruins hold on to win 3-1. the celtics are in action tonight at oklahoma city. those highlights and everything from the meadowlands tonight on sportscenter 5 o.t. with mike lynch. that's sports. have a great day. antoinette: physical activity is a critical part of anyone's routine. and maybe even more so for an amputee. jc: and that's the message some

are trying to spread in boston. newscenter5's pam cross shows us the adaptive gear they're using to get moving. pam: they are learning to run again. this clinic presented by the challenged athletes foundation is one of eight held across the nation to help people with physical challenges learn to run and walk. there were budding athletes at the boston athletic club of all descriptions and certainly with all types of energy. marathon survivors were on hand like heather abbott. her foundation, in collaboration with two other groups, gave eight-year-old corey tickle of somerset a custom running foot that she's learning to use. >> oh, my gosh. i just want to say thank you so much. pam: 23-year-old femita ayanbeku lost her leg at age 12 in an auto accident. she received a prosthetic foot worth thousands of dollars and began exercising right away.

antoinette: thank you, danielle. a special event in support of young men heading into adulthood. jc: and our own frank holland was there. frank: i was honored to be a panelist yesterday at the young men of color conference. it happened at brandeis university. it was organized by the home for little wanderers. the conference brings young men, 12 through 21, together with men of color who have dealt with similar challenges. everyone had a chance to share their own experiences in small groups after our panel discussion. wcvb is a proud partner of the home for little wanderers. i was so proud to be a panelist of this event that brought people together from different communities and different generations to open dialogue. marine in boston. at his skate-shop in malden. his family says he was so he wanted to open a safe and fun more than a decade of planning shawn's life was cut short. now the new lynch family skate

i have not put that away yet. temperatures outside this guys. in the 20's as well as 24 in fitchburg this morning. 25 in orange. 27 nashua. 38 in taunton. 38 on the cape. nantucket. as you go through the next 12 hours, say, in worcester, your temperatures will warm up into the upper 40's and pushing the low 50's through the afternoon. remember yesterday's high temperature was only 41 degrees. so it's milder this afternoon. we still have to talk about winds today. they are out of the west. they're anywhere from 10 to about 15 miles an hour. so it's a bit breezy. but not as windy as yesterday afternoon. that's where they're going to stay through the day as we say a mix of sun and clouds. so 51 to 56 today. west winds 10-20 and partly sunny skies.

bang, bang, bang, bang. for ten minutes without stopping. frank: survivors recounting the horror inside this theater when gunmen shot and killed nearly 90 people during a soldout concert by an american rock band. from the theater to this soccer stadium to several bars and restaurants, more than 350 people injured. at least 129 others killed. among them american student shot and killed at a restaurant while studying abroad. >> (crying). frank: isis claiming responsibility for the calculated attacks. prosecutors say were carried out by heavily armed terrorists wearing identical suicide vests. all of them now dead. members of their families detained in france today. police also making several arrests in belgium trying to track down everyone with links

collaboratively with others. we must anticipate these threats before they happen. this is the new sort of challenge, the new sort of threat. pam: civilized sparks began during discussion of how and why isis has grown. >> libya is now a mess. syria is a mess. iraq is a mess. afghanistan is a mess. as americans, we have shown ourselves to have the greatest military on the face of the planet, but we are not so very good at anticipating threats. >> we're spending over $600 billion a year on the military. yet significantly less than 10% of that money is used to be fighting international terrorism. >> we are at war with violent extremism. we are at war with people who use their religion for purposes of power and oppression. and, yes, we are at war with those people. but i don't want us to be painting with too broad a brush. pam: national security only one topic during the two-hour debate. they also dealt with several

economic issues-- minimum wage, oversight of wall street, and medicare amongst other things. i'm pam cross, wcvb, newscenter 5. antoinette: republicans on the campaign trail condemned the paris terror attacks slamming isis and president obama. saying now is the time to take on isis. >> what's going on is terrible. >> if we do not act, this terrorism, this violence, will come to america. >> i think american involvement should be trying to eliminate it. >> it seems to me that the craziest thing we could do is to take people who live in a desert who don't speak our language who don't understand our culture and bring them to minnesota during the winter. >> barak obama and hillary clinton under her watch decided politics above the security of our country and the stability and the security of the world. antoinette: the g.o.p. candidates take the stage in

going to warm up into the mid 50's. so even though we start out very chilly this morning, by afternoon, we're warming up into the mid 50's. it will be a mix of sun and clouds out there today. 51 your high temperature in worcester. 55 in nashua as well as boston. 55 taunton. and 54 in hyannis today. we're looking at partly sunny skies thanks to high pressure. the winds yesterday were out of the north and west. and that's why we stayed colder. today we are actually having westerly winds. that will warm us up just a touch. then we're watching this back-door cold front up to the north and west. it's going to come through tomorrow. with that will do is drop our temperatures back so through the day today, we start out with sunshine but more clouds build in by mid morning and through the afternoon. they're high, thin clouds though so it will be a mostly sunny martially sunny kind of day out there. then as we head towards this

fall as much as they did last night. we'll be in the 30's and 40's to wake up to tomorrow morning. and then through the day tomorrow, we do it all over again and with some sunshine, temperatures should warm into the low to mid 50's. so we have that back-door cold front coming through though. that is is going to drop the temperatures back after monday. fact let me show enthusiasm on the future cast here on monday. as we go, here comes that back-door cold front bringing in a northeast wind by tuesday morning. so temperatures on tuesday start out in the low 30's but what is going to happen actually is temperatures are only going to warm up into the mid to even upper 40's for highs. those winds continue to be off the water keeping temperatures cooler even closer to the coastline. then on wednesday a big change happens. we're going to watch this jetstream lift back to the north taking that cool air back into canada and bringing milder air for us and temperatures start to
