freezing mark this morning sitting at 34 degrees under clear skies. light winds, clear skies. the temperatures much cooler in suburbs this morning. we are running in the 20's from lawrence to nashua. worcester is under the freezing mark right now. and 20's extend south of town as well from norwood down to taunton. on the cape it is a little bit milder. we're running mostly in the lower 40's. that northerly wind has cloud cover. the rest of us enjoying the clear skies. with high pressure in control day. you can see there is rain off to it will take until thursday before that moves on in. so sunshine. we're going to be in the 0's through 8:00 this morning. jumping up into the low 40's by late morning. and look at this through the afternoon. despite the sunshine, we're holding it in the 40's today. so much cooler than yesterday when we hit 61 in boston. today just 47. 40's all the way down to the cape today so it's a cooler but a sunny tuesday ahead. let's get you out to the roads this morning and see how we're looking out there. olessa: good morning, everyone. a live look outside to start things off. here's a check of the pike by

allston/brighton looking good in both directions. to the maps. we are watching that overnight construction 93 southbound approaching the zakim bridge. also as you travel the expressway northbound by the government center and again from circle. 128 by 95 as well as on 95 and the ramps to 128. once again great plain avenue to route 9. construction on the pike by newton corner will be gone in the next 20 minutes or so. your last project as you travel sowfned on 128 route 2a and 4 and 225. we're expecting the trains and the buses to start the morning on schedule. emily: thank you. breaking right now. plane crash was an act of terrorism. security leaders say a home-made flight over egypt killing all 224 passengers on october 31. russian president vladimir putin is offering a $50 million reward for information to help catch those responsible. right now we are following overnight in the aftermath of new moves in the air and on the

ground. all of this aimed at preventing further carnage. randy: let's get right to the eye's erika tarantal. she's monitoring information as it comes in. erika: randy, emily. first to that new air campaign. france is carrying out more than a dozen new airstrikes in syria overnight. all of them focused on raqqa where it's believed friday's attacks were planned. the french military says the new airstrikes destroyed an isis command post and training camp. also breaking overnight. french police carried out 128 new raids around the country aimed at finding those responsible for the attacks. they are still searching for an eighth suspect who escaped after the killings. and this morning, president obama is in the philippines where a gathering of asian pacific nations plan to formally condemn the attacks on paris. on monday, the president stressed that the strategy of defeating isis terrorists would take time. we'll bring you new information as we get it. emily? emily: growing concern this morning over syrian refugees coming to the u.s. in the aftermath of those attacks. the eyeopener's todd kazakiewich

is live in boston on a family todd? todd: emily, good morning. half of the nation's governors including massachusetts governor charlie baker now say they are against taking in additional syrian refugees. that is something that worries one watertown family. amira elamri and her husband bassel are one of only 150 syrians who have been resettled in massachusetts since 2011. they say they there was a long vetting process before they were allowed to enter the u.s. but word that one of the paris attackers had a syrian passport has some leaders concerned those checks don't work. elamri says tells us that fear is exactly what isis wants. >> those communities do not really know what-- who are syrians, what they can do. they won't kill you. they will be people who can really contribute to their communities. todd: the u.s. state department says individual states really

cannot reject refugees. once refugees have legal status in the u.s., they can go anywhere they want. reporting live from the state house, todd kaiz kaidz, wcvb, newscenter 5. emily: it's the subject of this morning's eyeopener now poll. do you think massachusetts should accept refugees from syria in light of the paris attacks? right now most of you say no. you can add your vote on the front of our wcvb facebook page. randy: it's 4:35. other stories we're following right now. governor charlie baker is preparing to announce new policies for the department of high-profiling cases like the murder of bella bond. a series of reforms will be put in place including a new intake policy which baker says has not been updated in 12 years. criminal records checks, risk assessments, and a review of a family's history with d.c.f. will be added to the new policy. emily: today the mother of a face her daughter's accused killer in court. philip chism is charged in the murder of 24-year-old colleen ritzer.

the math teacher's mom is scheduled to take the stand at his trial. the defense admits chism killed ritzer but claims he was mentally ill. he has pleaded not guilty in the 2013 attack. randy: right now this man is preparing to face a judge after police say he tried to kill his estranged wife. that turned a north shore neighborhood into a crime scene. the eyeopener's sera congi is in salem where that man is due in court this morning. sera: randy, that man is axel scherer is charged with attempted murder and strangulation. and his wife has critical injuries. detectives swarmed the inside and outside of this house in beverly last night. that's where police say sherer choked his wife. neighbors didn't hear anything but saw the huge police presence. >> i saw the paramedics arrive in and run upstairs. i noticed there was a whole living room full of police officers.

randy: 40 minutes before 5:00. it's the "eyeopener" on tuesday morning. the search ends for the black recorder boxes on the doomed "el faro" cargo ship. the ntsb says it cannot find the data recorder in the wreckage of the ship. the agency still hopes to determine what caused the "el faro" to lose engine power and get trapped in hurricane joaquin. three people from massachusetts are among the 33 onboard who died. emily: this morning, police are still on the hunt for the thieves who carried out a well-orchestrated break-in at an army reserve facility. the worcester city manager says investigators are searching for one unidentified man. we've learned thieves got away with six m-4 assault rifles and 10 handguns from the lincoln stoddard army reserve center. federal investigators say the

>> oh, my god. oh, my god. emily: incredible video out of miami, texas. a large tornado forms in the state's panhandle. powerful storms right now. that is a huge thing. cindy: it was dark. it's what we call a wedge tornado. those are very large and destructive as well. a big storm in the middle of the country. severe weather from texas on up into the plains today. snow blizzard conditions out through the rockies. it will take a while but this stormy vent ally heads in our area.

the impacts here will be rain. that picks up in intensity during the afternoon and evening hours on thursday. so the morning commute on thursday should be dry. but the evening commute on thursday into especially friday morning's commute, that's when i feel like we'll see the biggest impact from the rain from this system. ahead of it, there is more to be pushing on in. temperatures running near 50 in chicago this morning. 70's dallas. that warmth will push eastward as that storm approaches but a little back-door cold front comes through overnight. that 61-degree high temperature yesterday not happening again today. we're actually cooling it down briefly. it will be bright and sunny today but cooler with highs only in the 40's. we stay dry andool through wednesday. then that system brings needed rainfall starting here on thursday. in the meantime we have high pressure nosing out of canada. and the flow around that giving a northerly wind that has generated cloud cover on the cape this morning. you can see those winds all on the lighter side but that north-to-northeastly wind is going to be with us throughout the day today, keeping the temperatures down.

around the freezing mark in worcester. just above it in boston. but notice the 40's here on cape cod. you get away from the coastline, 28 taunton. 25 in norwood. notice the 20's extend all the way up into southern new hampshire. and it's going to take us a while to warm up this morning. your 12-hour forecast here in the merrimack valley keeps us in the 30's through about 8:00 or 9:00 this morning. by 10:00 a.m. we're jump into the 40's. that's where we stay here through the afternoon so despite the sunshine today, the cooler. look at these highs. only in the mid 40's from worcester to boston to the cape. may sneak into the upper 40's from nashua to lawrence today. but certainly cooler than it has been. tonight we're back down in the 20's and 30's. look at the skies staying clear. high pressure is going to give us another day with lots of sunshine on wednesday. you can see through about 5:00 p.m. all the cloud cover here off to our west. those clouds move in on wednesday night and here come this front boundary on thursday. you can see by the morning commute, the rain is still off to the west and out ahead of it, it's a milder southerly flow. 40's today, near 50 coming up tomorrow.

and then that rain starts to approach on thursday. again i don't expect big issues for the morning commute. the rain will come in very slowly so even by 5:00 p.m., worcester on west, you're getting into it. it will take until thursday overnight and especially friday morning before we get in on the heavier rain. that rain should wind down later on friday afternoon. when all is is said and done, it looks like a solid inch or so of rain. this is one of our computer models. i want to caution you some of the other computer models suggest we make it closer to two inches of rain. a wide-spread soaking rain here on friday. behind that front we are cooling it down this weekend. saturday still looking dry. but there could be a couple of snow flurries on sunday. olessa: don't say that word. cindy: not going to amount to anything. still just the thought. olessa: terrifying. so far a quiet start on the road. a live look at the zakim and the leverett connector. traffic nice and light in both directions. we're picking up the rest of the overnight construction. let's get to the maps. i'll show you where it is if

as you make your way along the expressway northbound side by the government center and then once again granite avenue to neponset circle. some more construction clearing 128 by 59. also on 95 approaching 128 and then that construction picking up as well as great plain avenue to route 9 on 128. roadwork along the pike by newton corner will be gone in the next 20 minutes or so. the same story here on 128 between route 2a and 4 and 225. trains and buses are expected to start on schedule. emily: a "5 investigates" exclusive. the new england center for homeless veterans is a sanctuary for many in need. but some believe the center, which has millions in the bank, is leaving our soldiers behind. "5 investigates" obtained records showing hundreds of calls to boston police from the shelter involving illegal drugs and firearms, assaults, and more than 400 emergency medical calls in the last year alone. pest control reports show the center is infested with bed bugs. there are roaches in the kitchen, rats in the basement, and mice.

its staff and resources from baltimore to iowa. the former maryland governor has polls behind hillary clinton and bernie sanders. emily: asian stocks bounced back today as investors restore calm after the paris terror attacks. right now u.s. stock futures are up after a rally yesterday. the dow rose nearly 238 points to close at 17,483. plainridge park casino in plainville. new data from the state gaming commission says gross gambling revenue is down slightly from september to october. the venue is on track to generate $176 million in its first year which is about $24 million than the state expected. the casino's general manager says it's normal for revenues to taper after an opening and says profits will stabilize. a check of our trending stories this morning. emily: controversy involving

morning after this violent beating of a suspect. the officers are captured on surveillance repeatedly striking a suspect while he's face down on the ground. police say the man stole a car, led police on a high-speed chase, and rammed a cruiser. a lawyer for the suspect is asking for criminal charges against the officers. (chanting) randy: dozens of protesters hit the streets in minneapolis after the shooting death of a black man by police. protesters with the group "black lives matter" blocked the highway after jamar clark's death, he was killed in a scuffle with police over a domestic violence incident. the city's mayor is calling for a federal civil rights investigation. emily: fantasy sports websites draftkings and fanduel have lost a legal round in their attempt to stay in business in new york. the two sites were denied a temporary restraining order they tried to get against the state's attorney general. he ruled the sites engage in illegal gambling and told them to stop operating.

but a draftkings spokesman says the site will stay in the game in new york until a court hearing next week. randy: the boston bruins had the night off but they were still busy. making holiday shopping lists. the team arrived at target in everett yesterday for their annual toy shopping trip. the players will deliver the gifts to more than 600 kids at boston-area hospitals next month. a lot of joy from the shopping trip. cindy: so nice to see that. all right. skies are clear this morning. this time tomorrow morning, you want to look up because every year in the month of november, we get a meteor shower. it is coming at us overnight tonight into wednesday morning. it peaks in 2001. this year about 10-15 possible per hour. look east after midnight overnight tonight and especially tomorrow morning. i think we're going to have clear skies for the most part. we've got an area of high pressure building in.

so it's starting out clear this morning. we're going to have a lot of sunshine all day long but a north-to-northeastly wind is going to keep the temperatures down a little bit today. yesterday's 61 is not happening again today. it will be a whole lot cooler. tomorrow morning there you see high pressure to our north. so the skies are still clear. and temperatures are still going to be running a little bit cool but it's dry with a good amount of sunshine for you coming up again on wednesday. it's overnight wednesday night into thursday, we'll watch a system come at us from the west. initially it will increase the cloud cover overnight wednesday night. by thursday we're going to start to bring in a southerly flow of milder air and eventually some rain will get on in here. i don't think it will have a big impact on the morning commute on thursday. thursday evening that rain gets started. i think it's heaviest overnight into friday morning so the friday morning commute likely going to feature heavier rain around here. there is the potential to see about an inch, maybe a little bit more of rain. notice how the temperatures come up here during the end of the week into the mid 50's. cooling it on saturday. although saturday looks dry, it
