>> i screened amed and ran out of my apartment. >> the noise drew her to the window. >> there were some gunshots and i was closing my blinds because it scared me. there are at least like eight to 10 gunshots going off and i turned off my light and peeked out the window. as soon as i peeked out a bullet came through my window. reporter: she was not hurt. rob lives on an upper floor. >> we hearded what sounded like taps on the window. reporter: his partner saw action under the bridge. he saw at least one flash of light. it looked like a burst of fire or something coming from someone's hand so he assumed it had to be guns. >> police collected shell casings and questioned one man. the 29-year-old victim says she was not the target. >> it just was scary that as soon as i turned off my light and opened the blinds, one came through. >> we're told police are examining the shell casings but

at this point, no suspects, just a lot of relief it wasn't worse. 5. >> now the opioid crisis, state will soon have a new tool to help battle the heroin epidemic. the state unanimously approved a bill cracking down on finnnell. punishment up to 20 years in prison. a final vote is needed before being sent to the governor's desk. in new hampshire there was a special session to focus on the opioid crisis. both the house and senat passed a bill to create a bipartisan task force. its job over the next six weeks will be to vet and write bills on substance abuse initiatives. the new hampshire governor says she hopes that will include more money for statewide drug courts. >> one of my hopes from this special session is that as legislators from both parties learn more and more about the potential of drug courts, that

they will consider making a relatively modest investment. >> new spending is not a guarantee in new hampshire but state lawmakers there all agree solutions to the opioid crisis need to be found quickly. >> this is new at 5:30, an autopsy is complete on an 11-year-old from new hampshire. sean died sunday from injuries suffered in alexandra last friday. his death is considered suspicious but autopsy results are not being released. >> 44 degrees right now and it little bit more like that time of year, harvey. >> overall, we sure have. we had a frosty morning but we recovered pretty nicely. mainly clear skies. there have been some clouds in central and western new england at times. further to the west and you see clouds on the way and still further, and we see the rain

that's on the way. a little about the rain. timing, tomorrow morning, a low chance of any rain. there could be a touch of drizzle to the west the chances are medium there will be some rain for the evening commute but not heavy rain. overnight thursday night, very high chances of rain including heavier downpours and still high through about the friday morning commute. now, here are the temperatures. not going to be nearly as cold tonight as last night because the clouds will be coming in and we'll be warming up some tomorrow. the breeze picking up out of the south as we head into the 50s but then the wet weather gets involved. i'll let you know when it exits and what the weekend will be like in a few minutes. >> bill evans unveiled a new plan to crack the city's unsolved murders. each month they will release one, hoping new information will come forward. >> all it takes one person to come forward with a little bit

with wind gusts at 100 miles per hour. >> it sounded like a bomb. reporter: three people have been killed by falling trees. the driver of this suv lost control and slammed into a busy daycare center. >> they sleep right there, so, it's a miracle that nothing happened to anybody. reporter: in the south heavy downpours have also hammered parts of arkansas, mississippi, and tennessee. with reports of at least eight tornados touching down. >> that severe weather in the south is now heading towards alabama, georgia, and florida, bringing with it the threat of more tornados and flooding. abc news, los angeles. >> we're familiar with our own form of severe weather here. >> please, every kind. harv: the interesting thing is now we have that kind of weather but a year ago it was buffalo and the snow blitz. look behind us. that little area right around just east and south of buffalo.

harv: it may not seem -- seem like a year but that's the story. buffalo picked up 5 1/2 feet of snow. amazing. all lake-effect snow. thousands were stranded. roads closed. hundreds of roofs collapsed. the bills game against the jets had to be moved to detroit. a wall of snow and later the same week more snow fell so in one week some places picked up over seven feet of snow. of course, that may also have looked like us back last february, if you remember that. if you're thinking about us, last winter prior to january 23, we had only had 5 1/2 inches of snow but after that, an amazing 105.1 broke our record at 110.6 and buffalo, by the way last winter, had two inches of snow greater than we did for the seasonal total. it wasn't snow early this morning but it was all that frost on your

windshield. beverly sent this in -- from the location of beverly. temperatures this morning in the teens and low 20s in so many areas. very cold. yet we did have a respectable temperature recovery. look at some of the jumps in temperature that we had today. here it started at 16, wound up at 46. felt a lot different in late northern and afternoon than morning. boston, skies clear. 45 degrees. wind is off the water that alone suggests tonight is not going to be as cold as last night so it will drop for a while, especially inland but then clouds will be coming in. the winds will pick up a little bit out of the south. generally 30s and 40s overnight tonight. and that's a big improvement. tomorrow, mild air comes in, too, but the clouds will be here and eventually the wet weather. this is all related to the system that's produced a lot of severe weather as it's been marching across the country day

remember, it had some snow in colorado as well. we're going to see some of the rain. not severe, but significant rain, which we actually could use. so it looks like the clouds will be in most areas by early in the day tomorrow. could even be damp for far western massachusetts early tomorrow. our morning commute, just basically some clouds and not as cold as this past day was. tomorrow afternoon, that's when the rain starts to move east. there could be some rain or drizzle around the evening commute. however, the heavier rain is going to be after that. overnight tomorrow night, on into, if not through the friday morning commute, is when we'll get our heavier downpours. anywhere from half an inch to an inch or over an inch if you're in the areas that will get heavier downpours. will end around the cape with improving weather coming in midday and afternoon on friday. looking at the next seven. a gray day tomorrow. eventually becoming damp and then very wet overnight tomorrow night into friday morning.

look how mild it turns. starting in the 50s to near 60 early friday. but cooling off later friday. so saturday looks like a dry day but a chilly day. only in the upper 40s. that's how it looks. we may have somewhat gusty winds on saturday. it doesn't look like they will be out of control or anything like that. couple of showers come through sunday morning. dry and chilly weather for the patriots game on monday night right here on channel 5 at 8:30. pre-game show at 8:00 in the 30s for the game. after that we'll start to get into the holiday travel period. around tuesday and wednesday leading into thanksgiving. and right now it looks like it will be on the dry side during that period of time so that's the early look which is good news because when you have all of that travel we certainly prefer it to be dry over a good chunk of the country. much more coming up in future days. >> hitting the gym can be expensive with average member in the boston area around 60 per
