walking through a danvers high school hallway followed by the student who killed her. newscenter 5's jack harper is live at the courthouse in salem. jack: the ritzer family were back in court, too, think of what they were thinking as they were watching their daughter walking for the last time. >> colleen ritzer leaving the classroom she loved for the last time. philip chism right behind. checking the hallway apparently to see if anyone was around. all clear, he pulls up his hood and follows the young math teacher's path. another camera, 2:54. she enters the lady's bathroom. 2:55, he follows. moments later, another student looks in, catches a glimpse of someone, turns and leaves, not noticing anything wrong. after 11 minutes, chism leaves. colleen ritzer does not. other cameras show the teen leaving the school. >> he's now going

stairwell from 4-2 to 4-1, correct? >> yes. >> prosecutors say he would be back in minutes, with this recycled container which he allegedly used to move the body. >> i saw a boy who was crouched. he was looking around. like he was looking to see if anyone was looking at him. >> that was around 3:20. it would be more than an hour before janitors found the bloody scene. chism stopped the trial yesterday by refusing to come into court. given the chance to stay out, he changed his mind. >> do you want to give up that right to be present and be here and to confront and see the witnesses and see the cross-examination? >> do you want to be present? >> do you want to be present during the trial? okay. >> just before he spoke, his attorney conceded the 16-year-old is competent to stand trial in view of the defense. >> in salem, wcvb, newscenter 5.

>> right now, a halifax man faces charges of murdering a prostitute and hiding her body inside his home. >> according to our partners, police trace a missing 16-year-old girl to the home. while being questioned at the police station the girl said he mentioned he needed to clean up bloodstains. police returned to the home and found the body of another woman inside a closet wrapped in a blanket. he reportedly hired the victim through an online dating app the victim is identified only as a prostitute from revere. now police are investigating the burned body discovered near gated community. pam is live at the scene. pam: the question is how did she get there? on her own or was she forced? the d.a.'s office has called this an unattended death. they will wait for the outer loop before saying how the woman

died. >> the woman accused of trying to open an exit door on a -- when they saw the vehicle he saw the body behind it. it was about 15 feet behind the parked vehicle and it was the woman's car. there were burn marks in the car the woman's vehicle was later towed away. no cause of death has been announced pending the autopsy and the woman's identity has not newscenter 5. >> new at 6:00, cambridge police have identified the driver crash. dr. stone was riding his bike to work back in september when cameras captured this truck actually hitting him before taking off. stone underwent surgery for a broken wrist and police released the video hoping that someone would recognize the driver. tonight is only being identified as a medford man and it's not clear how police finally did down.

>> the woman who allegedly tried to open an exit door in a british airways flight appeared in court. a polish national who lives in austria, was drunk when she tried to pry open a door in yesterday's flight. she doesn't remember a thing. she pled not guilty for interfering with a flight crew and has surrendered her passport. 0 i was the announcing that 2015-2016 will be his last season. >> big papi is an investor in derek jeter's player's tribune website. he made it official, 2016 is the final act of the papi show. after this

>> a new requirement for f.b.i. background checks. >> if approved it will likely bring the syrian refugee program to a halt. we surveyed the massachusetts delegation and only one member thinks there should be a pause. >> with more details coming out hourly on the paris attacks only congressman stephen lynch thinks the president's current plan to bring 10,000 syrian refugees into our country needs rethinking. >> i think we should press pause button for a little bit. i would be very interested in seeing what we're doing on the vetting process. >> lynch said the u.s. must reexamine its protocol since at least one terrorist used the syrian refugee program to get into paris but the rest of the delegation agrees with senator elizabeth warren. she argues the vetting process takes up to two years and is more more stringent than european standards. >> to close our borders to those fleeing the massacre, that's not

that's not who we are. >> congressman keating argues most of the attackers had legitimate european visas and could come out without refugee status. >> we can do what we've always done in terms of trying to reach out, particularly when you have people trying to flee assad and flee isis because of their on personal safety reasons. >> we can't shut the door on the very people that isis is trying to persecute. that's just playing into the hands of the enemy. >> lynch doesn't know how he'll vote but he needs to know why the u.s. vet process has not received more funding. >> the burden put on the vetting process, because of the huge number of applicants, and the lack of resources might create a situation where there will be gaps in our system. >> congressman lynch also defended governor baker saying his call for due diligence is a cautious but reasonable approach. other members of the massachusetts delegation said

it's such a blast to have his personality, way he goes through these things carries us through. >> nate solder opening up about his baby's battle with cancer. he tells kelly how he and his wife are relying on their strong faith to get them through. he's an imposing presence but his -- cancer has struck his family twice. last month solder's 4-month-old baby hudson was diagnosed with it was a strange bump that we just thought was necessary to go she sent us to get an ultrasound. chemotherapy. handling it? >> he's tough. it's like, they were pulling out his port and he was looking at me like this, i'm going to cry but i'm working through it and they pull it out and he says, okay, i'm good, dad. >> tough like dad. the lineman himself overcame year.

what i've got a tough forecast. how much snow we're going to get. that's a great story. i don't know if you found this great this morning but you sure found it cold and you might have windshield. it was as low as the teens. many other spots were in the 20s recovery. higher. this fell just short but a lot morning. boston tonight temperatures won't fall as low as last night. for one thing the wind is already off the water. the ocean water temperature is running around 50. that in itself will prevent it from becoming as cold tonight as it was last night. anywhere from the upper 30s to the upper 40s around the region but you see wind direction. southeast. that's certainly not a real cold weather wind direction so it's another reason it won't be as cold tonight. these are the temperatures to greet you early tomorrow morning, much more moderate compared to this past morning and it will make it into the 50s tomorrow before the day is out. however, on the other hand, we're not going to have the sunshine. it will be cloudy, it could be a

bit damp although the steadier, heavier rains will hold off until overnight tomorrow night. still mainly clear but when we look to our south and west we see a lot of clouds. when we take a trip even further to the west then we see that band of weather which has prompted some tornado warnings in parts -- tornado watches in parts of the southeast. this is some severe weather that's been tracking across the country. i don't expect it to be severe here but i do expect some embedded heavier downpours overnight tomorrow night that may affect the friday morning commute. especially in eastern portions of massachusetts. so it's a milder day tomorrow but a cloudy one. some low clouds could lead to a little bit of drizzle or a light shower or two but it's tomorrow night when the heavier rains move in from west to east enhanced by this developing area of low pressure. then as it exits friday afternoon, then we'll see the improving weather with clearing skies coming in from west to east later on friday. here's a closer look at that timeline. clouds are in early tomorrow morning. some wet weather possible in western massachusetts. get to the evening commute, it

rains are still to the west. look at the friday morning commute, could be very wet in eastern massachusetts. may even be an embedded thunderstorm. exits by or during the midday and afternoon hours improving weather, but cooler weather follows after that. so here's a look at the next seven days. we've got some rain heaviest tomorrow night, though. most of it occurring then and early friday. as for how much rain we can get out of this, again, different computer models and different projections, where will the heaviest be? inch and a half or more. an inch in boston. this could shift a little bit. the heaviest amounts could wind up closer to the coast. then we're in for a dry weekend except a shower or two sunday let you know about the patriots game monday night that you can see right here on channel 5. looks like it will be chilly, in the 30s, it might drop down to the freezing mark or a little below during the course of the game but it also looks like it will be dry. with a breeze out of the west probably not too strong, as things stand. temperatures close to average or
