at the glaik ill. also on the expressway near mass avenue. as you travel south of there, some construction on the ramps from 95 north to 128 as well as well as on 128 passing by 95. roadwork still in place near great plain avenue and once again as you travel farther north right along 128 near winter street. your last project right here over by route 2, 128 in both dregs. we're expecting the trains and the buss to start the morning on schedule. randy randy: breaking overnight. five people have been shot at a protest in minneapolis. police say the suspects on the run are believed to be three vests. none of the injuries are considered life-threatening. it happened near a police precinct that has been the site of demonstrations fueled by the shooting death of an unarmed the justice department is investigating the officer-involved shooting. erika: also breaking. a russian warplane has been shot down by turkish military on the the plane was coming from a bombing mission in syria when it came under attack. moscow insists the plane did not violate turkish airspace.

warned the plane before opening fire. and in fort hood, texas, four people are dead in a military chopper crash. the u.s. army says four crew members were on a training mission when the chopper went down last night. randy: and a massachusetts state trooper is recovering after being struck by an alleged drunk driver. the trooper was directing traffic at the time. this happened in foxborough along route 1. erika: the patriots game had just gotten out. 29-year-old catherine williams was arrested and charged with o.u.i. the trooper was taken to the hospital for evaluation. randy: this morning the patriots are still unbeaten. but that hard-fought win may come with a heavy price. that perfect ten on the field setting the team up for a tough road ahead. erika: the concern now for danny amendola. take a look at the punt return late in the third quarter. amendola makes a bad step to the left and appears to grip the back of his leg. he did not return to the game. amendola already asked to carry a heavier load with the absence of julian edelman.

frost out there this morning. the winds are settling down a little bit. you're bracing yourself as you walk outside. we can take it. these are the numbers. 29 last hour in boston. that is the coldest we've been since march 29 when it was down to 26. average low this time of year is in the mid 30's. you know, it's been a mild month overall but the record low today is 11 so we're nowhere near that. nonetheless, it is going to be another cold day. colder than average for this time of year but sunshine and less wind than yesterday. not going to feel too bad to you. it looks dry through the holiday for traveling which is great news and a warming trend that we are still watching here for thanksgiving. in terms of traveling, heading into the day tomorrow, there is a system out in the west that is slowly making its way across the country but in the middle of the country coming up for traveling on wednesday from chicago bound to st. louis down to dallas, there will likely be some rain with some areas of snow north and west of there. you know, it's going to take until the weekend before that system moves in our direction. we have a big bubble of high pressure nosing on in. we were really just watching it

now the winds are settling down. they're coming out of the west. we are seeing mainly clear skies overhead so it is a quiet start to your day overall. there are a few spots running in the teens from norwood to taunton. we have upper 20's on the cape right now. 23 worcester. 14 in orange. lower 20's up in nashua. in boston right now, we're sitting at 30 degrees. here's your 12-hour forecast. notice clear skies this morning. sunshine pretty much all day long. by mid-day, we're coming up into the lower 40's so we will see the temperatures come up this morning and hold in the 40's through the afternoon. i think we're talking about a high right around 40 degrees in worcester, 43 boston. and we'll see some mid 40's here as we get down toward the south shore and the cape. 4 today your high in nashua. now you can see how clear the skies are throughout the day. nothing more than a quick passing cloud or two. overnight, the skies are clear as well. when the winds go calm tonight, temperatures once again will be dropping back into the 20's in the suburbs, likely waking up to readings near the freezing mark tomorrow in boston. tomorrow we're in this low to

mid 40's as well. keep in mind an average high this time of year is closer to 50. about 49. so cooler than average with high pressure in control. you can see off to the west, there is that storm as we head into the day on wednesday. again no travel problems up and down the eastern seaboard on wednesday. thursday we will see a little bit more cloud cover but it is still a dry day. for those football games in the morning, i think temperatures in the 30's to right around 40 degrees. we warm up into the 50's though in the afternoon and clear skies as you're heading home. temperatures in the 40's. so overall pretty quiet around here on thursday. we warm up on friday. our next chance of wet weather comes in friday night and saturday as high pressure sits now to our east. we'll have that warmer, southerly flow. mild out ahead of it. on friday i think we'll be in the 60-degree range and still around 50 on saturday with some showers in the morning and then as that front goes on through, i think we're cooling it down. you can see that there on sunday back down into the mid 40's. hey, another run at 60 here by the end of the week. really no big issues for us but traveling coming in from the

england aquarium officials warn the whale is likely ill and may not survive. crews will be back out this morning to search for the whale. >> it's horrible. we were our babies. erika: a community comes together to pay tribute to dozens of animals killed in a shelter fire. this morning, firefighters are still trying to figure out what sparked the flames that killed more than 30 cats and dogs. we brought this to you as breaking news on yesterday's eyeopener. firefighters say the sweetpea animal shelter in paxton was engulfed when they arrived. despite challenges, they were able to save five dogs. there is a social media campaign for donations to help this animal sanctuary get up and running. you can find that information on wcvb.com. randy: 4:49. "5 investigates" looking into students and concussions. investigative reporter karen anderson found that one in five middle and high school athletes in massachusetts report they likely got a concussion. even more disturbing, about half

playing. getting a second head injury while the first one isn't healed raises the risk of serious, even permanent brain injury. ryan farrell has permanent brain damage after she kept practicing after a cheerleading fall. she was outraged more isn't being done. >> i hear that. i want to scream because i don't care if it's the state championship game and you're in the final seconds of sudden death overtime. it is not worth the rest of your life. you only get one brain. randy: the state public health department says it is very concerned about the number of student concussions. they're working with schools to improve the way head injuries are tracked and prevent students from getting hurt again. erika: it is 4:50 right now. economic headlines this morning. ford is recalling more than 450,000 cars because of a potential fuel leak. the recall includes 2010 and 2011 ford fusion and mercury milan models all built at the

plant in mexico. ford says the vehicles have a canister purge valve that may malfunction and cause a crack in the fuel tank. that could eventually spark a fire. ford says it is not aware of any accidents or injuries. asian stocks are lower this morning, amid slumping commodity prices. right now, dow futures are higher on wall street after stocks failed to hold early gains yesterday. the dow dropped 31 points at yesterday's close. randy: a check of your trending stories. the family of muslim teenager in texas is suing for $15 million. ahmed mohamed was arrested and suspended from school after he brought in a homemade clock for a project. a teacher mistook it for a bomb. attorneys for the boy say he and his family suffered unnecessarily. they're suing the city of irving, and the school district. erika: an annual tradition is in the works this morning. the national presidential turkey and his alternate are on their way to the white house. president obama will pardon the

earlier this month. police say cell phone records indicate both squires were in the area at the time of the murder. a beverly man is back in court today to face murder charges in the death of his wife. axel scherer reportedly confessed to choking edith black scherer in her home last monday. she was found unconscious with a pillow over her head. she died saturday. scherer has been held without bail. erika: the murder trial of the danvers teen accused of killing his teacher is now on break. jurors will return after thanksgiving. yesterday, they saw video showing phillp chism at a movie theater hours after the murder using victim colleen ritzer's credit card. evidence was also shown indicating he stole a knife from a b.j.'s wholesale club. chism's lawyers plan an insanity

two men are charged with the murder of a pregnant woman in indianapolis. larry taylor and jalen watson were tied to the murder by amanda blackburn, the wife of a pastor, was home with her the men broke in. they say taylor shot blackburn three times including once in the head. today in the cancer fight for nate solder's four-month-old son chemotherapy at boston's children's hospital. the family will learn the results of an m.r.i. today to see if the treatment is having a positive effect. case goes back to court in march. the nfl's appeal of the ruling to vacate brady's four-game march 3, 2016, about a month after the super bowl. sports legal expert michael mccann tweets that a decision would likely come by early summer, and he says don't expect brady to lose. judge richard berman's rulings erika: the bruins seal the deal in a shootout up in toronto. they took on the maple leafs last night. the game tied 3-a-piece when the teams went to the shootout. and david krejci is the all the difference. the b's win 4-3.

they take on the red wings tomorrow night in detroit. >> the strongest el nino was 1997-98. randy: weather expert judah cohen got his prediction right last year. so after that massive snowfall, what are we in for this time around? el nino isn't the only factor. tonight at 11:00, cohen and harvey leonard lay out the winter weather predictions, even the total amount of snow cohen thinks we'll see. erika: we'll have to wait to see. what will he tell us? winter. that was record-setting. randy: it could be worse. cindy: no, no, absolutely not. i mean record snowfall. i don't think we're seeing that again this winter. it has been such a mild november, too. there is kind of that connection with milder than average novembers. and perhaps less snowfall in the months ahead. but we shall see. you can see how warm it has been

to five degrees above normal per day. notice the last few days here since the weekend we have been below average. that will be the case again today. average high now is 49. we're going to be below that today and again tomorrow but starting on thanksgiving, look at that. we're back up into the 50's making a run towards 60 degrees here coming up on friday. a far cry from that this morning. these are the temperatures right now. we have dropped to 13 in orange. 23 in worcester. it is 30 degrees in boston so it's a cold start under clear sunshine today. we warm up into the 40's, not just here but in new york as well. philly to d.c. in the 50's today. you can see it's pretty quiet across the country overall. there is some storminess out in the west. that is where we could some airport delays later today but right now all the hubs here running without delay. we're going to watch that storm make its way across the country. if you have travel plans coming up tomorrow, it is dry up and down the eastern seaboard but in the nation's mid section out
