good morning to you. i'm randy price. erika: i'm erika tarantal. emily is off today. of course, cindy is here and stepping out and feeling the cold. cindy: it is sure cold out there this morning but we don't have the biting wind that we had yesterday. erika: the winds always make it worse. cindy: it does but not as windy look at the temperatures. we're down in the teens north and west of boston from nashua worcester 23. 30 in boston right now but we have been as cold as 29 in the city overnight. 17 norwood. 18 taunton and lots of 20's as you make your way down to the cape this morning. these are the winds. again not all that impressive compared to yesterday when we were gusting 20-30 miles per hour all day long but still enough wind out there this morning but this is what it feels like to you. the wind chill all the way down to 11 right now in worcester and it does feel like it's in the lower 20's in boston. you want to bundle up. it's a cold start. clear skies out there now. we've got high pressure nosing in today. that means two things. it means we'll have sunshine again today. and overall less wind.

about 6-12 miles per hour. temperatures come up through the 30's this morning. by midday, we are in the lower 40's. topping out at around 43 today in boston. keep in mind an average high is 49. so a little bit below the average today. but we do have a warm-up coming for the end of the week. more on that in just a few minutes. let's get you out to the roads right now. at least we have clear skies and dry roads. good morning. olessa: yes we do. we're watching what's left of that overnight construction. a live look outside. here's the pike by allston/brighton. problem free in both directions. let's get to the maps and see the rest of your trip. as you make your way into town construction clearing 93 south at the zakim. also on the expressway near mass avenue. as you travel south of there construction picking up on the ramps from 95 to 128 and also on 128 itself passing by 95 and once again by great plain avenue. heading north of there, we've got more construction on 128 near winter street. and your last project both directions by route 2. trains and buses starting the morning on schedule. erika. erika: thank you. also breaking. a russian warplane has been shot down by turkish military on the border with syria. the plane was coming from a

came under attack. moscow insists the plane did not violate turkish airspace. turkish authorities say they warned the plane before opening fire. this morning the patriots are still unbeaten. but that hard-fought win may come with a heavy price. another key player may be down and out. that perfect ten on the field setting the team up for a tough road ahead. randy: that was a sweet win but the concern now for danny amendola. take a look at the punt return late in the third quarter. amendola makes a bad step to the left and appears to grip the back of his leg. he did not return to the game. amendola already asked to carry a heavier load with the absence of julian edelman. tom brady knows he can't risk losing another veteran receiver. brady: we lost danny during the game. we lost dobson during the game. we're down to two healthy receivers. you get pretty limited quickly in the things that you can do.

without some controversy. in case you were wondering, bad whistles are not allowed to be reviewed by replay. live at gillette stadium, i'm kelley tuthill, wcvb, newscenter 5. a state trooper struck by an alleged drunk driver while directing traffic in foxborough it happened just before midnight on route 1. the driver, 29-year-old catherine williams, was arrested the trooper, who was alert, was taken to the hospital for evaluation. five people shot at a protest in minneapolis. police say the suspects on the run are believed to be three white men wearing bullet-proof vests. the violence happening near a police precinct that has been the site of demonstrations fueled by the shooting death of an unarmed black man by an officer. none of the injuries are considered life-threatening. the justice department is investigating the officer-involved shooting that claimed the life of 24-year-old jamar clark on november 15.

erika: right now two firefighters are hurt after flames break out at a three-family home in east boston. both were taken to mass general last night with non-life- threatening injuries. firefighters say the flames on lexington street were caused by a plumber's torch being used for work on a third floor bathroom. randy: breaking overnight. four people are dead in a chopper crash at fort hood in texas. the u.s. army says four crew members were on a training mission when the chopper went down last night. more information as we get it. erika: right now a worldwide travel warning is in effect as millions of americans head out for the holiday. the eye's todd kazakiewich is live at south station with the heightened alert. todd? todd: erika, good morning. the state department is issuing the warning to americans in light of recent terror attacks and threats. the warning describes terrorists using conventional and non-conventional weapons to target official and private interests. there was no added security seen at logan last night. of course there could be

behind-the-scenes security. warning does not change how they operate. travelers also not changing their plans to fly. >> what can we do? we've got to keep living. just be more aware, maybe take more precautions but keep living. todd: right now, there are no specific threats focusing on the boston area. the travel warning expires in live at south station, todd kazakiewich, wcvb, newcenter 5. discovery on the outskirts of paris. police say an explosive vest similar to those used in the attacks earlier this month was found by a street cleaner in a pile of garbage. the vest contained bolts and the same explosives used in the attacks. the vest was found in a neighborhood where one of the suspects cell phones was tracked shortly after the attacks. president obama and french president francois hollande will meet today at the white house. the paris terror attacks a top priority to discuss. the two hope to revamp efforts to defeat isis. randy: the baby sitter accused

of kidnapping a little girl in hamilton is being held without bail this morning. she'll undergo a psychiatric evaluation before her next court appearance. abigail hanna appeared disoriented when she was brought into the courtroom for arraignment. she's accused of kidnapping two-year-old lyndon albers last week. that little girl was found hours later. her head had been shaved and she suffered other injuries. cigarette burns. the police warrant reads when investigators found the 21-year-old baby sitter she was covered in dirt, claiming she tried to corral a stray cat. her attorney says over the weekend hanna experienced auditory and visual hallucinations. she also described a history of multiple suicide attempts. a beverly man is back in court today to face murder charges in the death of his wife. axel scherer reportedly confessed to choking edith black scherer in her home last monday. she was found unconscious with a pillow over her head. she died saturday.

bail. >> it's horrible. because they were our babies. erika: a community comes together to pay tribute to dozens of animals killed in a shelter fire. this morning, firefighters are still trying to figure out what sparked the flames that killed we brought this to you as breaking news on yesterday's eyeopener. firefighters say the sweetpea animal shelter in paxton was engulfed when they arrived. despite challenges, they were able to save five dogs. there is a social media campaign for donations to help this animal sanctuary get up and running. you can find that information on wcvb.com. the murder trial of the danvers teen accused of killing his teacher is now on break. jurors will return after thanksgiving. yesterday, they saw video showing phillp chism at a movie theater hours after the murder using victim colleen ritzer's credit card. evidence was presented indicating the teen stole a knife from b.j.'s wholesale

we've got upper 20's on the cape right now. look at taunton at 18. norwood at 17. you can see teens up in nashua as well. we're all the way down to 13 in orange. 30 in boston after being 29 last hour. and 23 right now in worcester. i want to show you your 12-hour forecast around the worcester area. notice we are in the 20's through 8:00 this morning. then we'll jump into the 30's nudging toward 40 degrees by midday. with lots of sunshine. really across the entire area coming up today. you can see how clear the skies are right now. we have high pressure nosing in. lighter winds and they're out of the west today. pressure, you can see there are clouds in the nation's mid section but the only storminess is out in the pacific northwest. it will take some time for that storm to work in our direction. we're in great shape here through the upcoming holiday. 41 the high today in worcester. an average high is 49 this time of year so once again today we're a little bit below the average but with the sunshine and that wind out of the west hour. today. down in the 20's tonight to

around 30 downtown under mainly clear skies. this high is still hanging on during the day on wednesday. we'll watch that storm come out of the northwest into the wednesday. if you're doing some traveling from chicago to st. louis to dallas, there will likely be wet weather with some snow on the backside of this system is. it will take until friday night and saturday for that system to come in our direction in the form of some rain showers. out ahead of it we're warming up to 60 on friday. if you have plans to to be headed to some of those football games on thursday, chilly in the morning 30's to around 40 degrees. we're coming up into the 50's again on thanksgiving day. looks really nice. breezy, mild with clouds and sunshine for black friday and coming in. it looks like the first half of the day on saturday. behind it, we will cool down, down into the 40's by the second half of the weekend. overall we're in great shape for thanksgiving. olessa: one of the busy travel days too. it's a quiet start on the roads for enthusiasm morning. there's the spray by the south bay mall. northbound heading towards the bottom of the screen. you can see just an occasional

i think it is a big factor. cindy: but that's not the only tonight at 11:00, cohen and harvey leonard lay out the the total amount of snow cohen thinks we'll see. erika? economic headlines this morning. ford is recalling more than 450,000 cars because of a potential fuel leak. the recall includes 2010 and 2011 ford fusion and mercury milan models all built at the plant in mexico. ford says the vehicles have a canister purge valve that may malfunction and cause a crack in the fuel tank. that could eventually spark a fire. ford says it is not aware of any accidents or injuries. asian stocks are lower this morning amid slumping commodity prices. right now, dow futures are lower on wall street after stocks failed to hold early gains yesterday. the dow dropped 31 points at yesterday's close. dell is admitting to a security flaw in its new laptops. the computer company says a pre-installed program on some of the newly purchased laptops could make private data easily accessible to hackers. they could get access to

browser traffic. the company will provide customers with instructions on how to remove the bug. randy: new this morning. it is definitely a tight squeeze. but this hot trend could get you into some of boston's hottest neighborhoods for less. so, of course, we sent our tallest reporter, the eyeopener's frank holland, to check it out. frank: the new big thing in city living-- small spaces. >> it's small but convenient. very modern. frank: marilyn and rodrigo are harvard graduate students. >> so this is our kitchen. frank: they call this 450 square foot micro apartment in allston home. the price about $2,400 per month. >> for me it's been better than expected frank: there are no real guidelines for micro apartments, but if you can go from the bedroom to the living room to the kitchen this quick, you are probably in one. >> this apartment is small but we are small people.

they're both happy olessa is back with eyepoppers. olessa: candyland comes to life in ohio. the penitentiary glen nature center created this life-sized game allowing people to travel through the seasons. players draw a card and move from space to space. the game includes scavenger hunts and crafts. it opened this week and runs through january 3. that could be fun. this is fun, too. introducing a new way to get a pizza. this is the easy order button from domino's. with just one click, the tool uses bluetooth technology to send a pizza right to your door. before using it, you create a profile on domino's website with address and payment information. the chain is testing it in the u.k. calling and ordering a pizza is difficult. now you have to have a button connected to the blue tooth. erika: can you imagine college 2:00 a.m., a lot of buttons being pushed? a clown becomes a hero in canada. how his clown car became a safe haven for two women. plus-- the dangers of concussions not a secret anymore. randy: 5:30 tuesday morning. traffic moving along the southeast expressway on a very cold morning. one of the coldest so far in this area. good morning to you. i'm randy price. erika: and i'm erika tarantal. emily is off today. cindy: we were 29 last hour. 30 right now but we haven't been in the 20's in boston since last march. the wind is still out there. noticeable enough to knock back the wind chill. it does feel like it's 11 degrees in worcester right now. you can see the wind not nearly as strong as yesterday but any wind with temperatures in the 20's makes it feel colder. 30 degrees boston. 20 worcester. teens from norwood to taunton. a lot of 20's on cape cod this morning but the skies are clear. they'll stay that way all day long. mostly sunny skies. we're up to near 30 by 8:00 a.m. and near 40 by lunchtime. difference today. looking for a high of 43 boston

experiences the heaviest volume of traffic on the tuesday before turkey day. for the rest of the country tomorrow is the most con jelted day. take a look at the numbers. last year mass-tallied over 7,000 toll transactions on boston and the mass. on wednesday they had 200,000 less tolls. and traffic today is expected to be at 5:00 p.m. if you're hitting the roads this afternoon, avoid traffic that you think is coming tomorrow, well, you might want to alter your plans. live from 128, sera congi, wcvb, newscenter 5. randy: thank you. new this morning. the "t" looking into fares based on a rider's income. the mbta fiscal board is set to discuss a potential fare hike in january with a vote in february. according to "the herald," one member of the board saying she can't imagine adjusting the price to ride the subways and buses without a low-income fare in the system. new this morning. federal prosecutors are

investigating strong-arm allegations against everett's mayor. at issue is whether mayor carlo demaria forced the developer in charge of transforming the former charleston chew factory into a luxury apartment complex to use union labor workers. according to "the globe," the developer was against the idea when it was proposed originally citing it would drive up costs. however, he did end up hiring some union labor workers and now federal prosecutors want to know why. >> it was awful. erika: only on 5, the one-time girlfriend of james "whitey" bulger criticizes the hollywood blockbuster depicting the boston mobster. despite acclaim from critics, lindsey cyr tells newscenter 5 there is a lot the movie got wrong. cyr dated bulger for 12 years, and the two had a child together. she says she knew nothing of bulger's murderous dark side. she only knew him as a loving father. portrayed by dakota johnson, cyr says the movie does not represent the relationship

"5 investigates" looking into students and concussions. investigative reporter karen anderson found that one in five middle and high school athletes

in massachusetts report they likely got a concussion. even more disturbing, about half of those students say they kept playing. getting a second head injury while the first one isn't healed raises the risk of serious, even permanent brain injury. ryan farrell has permanent brain damage after she kept practicing after a cheerleading fall. she was outraged more isn't being done. >> i hear that and i wanted to scream because i don't care if it's the state championship game and you're in the final seconds of sudden death overtime, it is not worth the rest of your life. you only get one brain. erika: the state public health department says it is very concerned about the number of student concussions. they're working with schools to improve the way head injuries are tracked and prevent students from getting hurt again. randy: updates ahead on breaking news this morning. a russian warplane shot down over syria. the mission it had just completed. and local muslims sharing safety concerns after the attacks in

moulton has been vocally opposed to recent talks of keeping refugees out of several states in the u.s. including massachusetts. the roundtable this afternoon is at the state's immigrant and refugee advocacy coalition on chauncy street. randy: two pilots have died after a u.s. military helicopter crashed in south korea. the chopper was on a training mission when it went down yesterday. two bodies were pulled from the wreckage but have yet to be identified. there have been no reports of any injuries on the ground. the cause is under investigation. erika: we now know when a one-time friend of boston marathon bomber dzhokhar tsarnaev will be sentenced. stephen silva will learn his punishment on december 2 after pleading guilty to charges of heroin distribution and possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number. the 22-year-old is accused of loaning a gun to tsarnaev-- the same gun used to kill m.i.t. police officer sean collier in

the mattapan accused of a catfishing scheme is out on bail. he used fake on-line dating profiles to lure people to mattapan and roxbury where they were robbed. he's held on $75,000 bail. randy: sky 5 over a whale stranded in kingston. the beached minke whale did get pulled back into the water by the high tide yesterday, but new england aquarium officials warn the whale is likely ill and may not survive. crews will be back out this morning to search for the whale. erika: the mbta has voted to ban all political ads debating moral, religious, and social issues. the decision was made at a meeting yesterday focused on an ad in the red line's davis square station that angered members of the jewish community. the new policy is legal and consistent with policies in the new york and chicago transit system. it takes effect december 1 and also will apply to all animal

cruelty ads. randy: governor baker says he agrees with recommendations made by the state's attorney general regarding fantasy sports sites. maura healey's plan allows companies like fanduel and boston-based draftkings to continue operating in massachusetts but with new rules including age and advertising restrictions. baker said monday he believes healey's plan covers the bases in a pretty significant and appropriate way. new information expected today in the cancer fight for the son of a patriots player. nate solder's four-month-old son hudson is undergoing chemotherapy at boston's children's hospital. the family will learn the results of an m.r.i. today to see if the treatment is having a positive effect. randy: tom brady's deflategate case goes back to court in march. the nfl's appeal of the ruling to vacate brady's four-game suspension will be heard on march 3, 2016, about a month after the super bowl. sports legal expert michael mccann tweets that a decision would likely come by early summer, and he says don't expect brady to lose.
