theands of an officer. that video, very difficult to good evening. i'm heather unruh. ed: i'm ed harding. an officer is charged with murder in this case. new developments right now. reporter: we want to keep these live picture u.p.s. police say the team was -- teen was acting erratically, refusing to drop the knife. he was walking away from officers when he was shot 16 times in 15 seconds. the dash cam videos from a responding officer arriving to find 17-year-old laquan mcdonald walking in the middle of the street, a knife in his right hand. watch the left side of your screen as mcdonald is walking away from them. two officers approach with guns drawn. one of them, jason van dyke, opens fire. we're going to freeze the video right here. but mcdonald is spun around by the first few shots, falls to the ground, hit 16 times. >> of the eight or more officers on the scene, it was only the defendant who fired his weapon. reporter: that's why cook county state's attorney has charged officer van dyke with

first degree murder. >> did you act out of fear for your life? reporter: on his way to turn himself in, officer van dyke said nothing. his attorney would only say he's, quote, hanging in there. out on the streets of chicago, protesters gathered, angry. another white police officer shooting and killing another black teenager. >> people have a right to protest. people have a right to free speech. but they do not have a right to commit criminal acts. reporter: officer van dyke has been on desk dutyy since the shooting in october of 2014. he is now the first on-duty chicago police officer to be charged with first-degree murder. ed: live pictures of what has been relatively peaceful protesting. police there surrounding a group of a couple hundred of the street. they have been there for about the last hour or so. a judge has scheduled another hearing for monday. he will watch the video then and then decide if officer van bail. the city by the way has already

that is good news if you like it milder around thanksgiving. so we'll talk all about the warmup, how much of the weekend will be that way, the changes day. see you again in a few minutes. heather: new at 11:00, a fixture of south boston's st. patrick's day parade has passed away. his family telling the globe d, john "wacko" hurley died tonight at mass general. he was the long time organizer parade. he fought to keep gays and lesbians from marching. organizers broke with tradition, they allowed a group of gay veterans into the parade this year. hurley was 85 years old. he had been in failing health. ed: right now one man is dead after a freak accident that happened in natick and others are badly hurt. a driver flying through the air before hitting the victims. how police say it happened. reporter: we know it happened suddenly. that driver shot across here and landed up on that sidewalk where three people had just walked out of the harbor freight store. it happened in a flash.

the white car shot across the parking lot pleauing into a group of pedestrians before slamming into the building. >> she went airborne, so when she hit the curb you could hear an accident sound. so that's when we all came running out of the building and bang, bang, bang. it was like one on top of the other. reporter: it happened at the cloverleaf shops off speen street. the female driver in her late 80's lost control and took down three men. the victims had just walked out of the harbor freight tool store. 70's. the other an armored truck driver in his 40's. he just made a pickup. >> it was just a bad scene. it was a bad scene. car. >> a lot of blood. a lot of chaos. we just tried to comfort the people. reporter: teams tried to reconstruct the accident. those who saw the horror unfold fast. >> that's what we've been hearing from the scene. the same from all witnesses. it was a high rate of speed. we don't know what that means. definitely a high rate of speed for a parking lot.

reporter: police have yet to died. we're told the elderly driver suffered minor injuries. still not clear why she lost control. heather: he's armed, he's dangerous, and right now this man is on the run. police are hunting him down for the murder of a woman whose body was found burned in the woods. we're live in dorchester tonight with how police are connecting him to the case. reporter: investigators say that he thought that that woman was involved in his son's murder here in dorchester. retaliation drove this man to savagely murder a 29-year-old woman, investigators say. her burned body found alongside train tracks in bridgewater three weeks ago. >> she had been gagged by a towel and victim's clothing, wrapped in a blanket and hog tied with an electrical extension card.

day after a man was shot to death in dorchester. owens thought bort in her had something to do with it. as they investigated her death, he had say key evidence led them to owens. >> the same sort of bath towel that was found on the woman was at his home. identical electric cords were located at that address also. reporter: these two also played a role in the woman's murder, prosecutors say. helping move her body and then lying to detectives when they started asking questions. they're behind bars but police cannot find owens who they say is armed and dangerous. and tonight investigators are not saying why they believe the suspect's son was murdered here in dorchester. ed: tonight the f.b.i. is out with a new alert for americans in the wake of the paris attacks. they are concerned about the potential for copycat terror attacks here on u.s. soil. the warning -- calls for increased security at so-called soft targets and that includes

hubs, for example, like washington's union station. >> over here we have one of our detection k-9's and up there are special agents who have additional tactical skills. ed: law enforcement sources no specific threat, the f.b.i. is watching a specific group of isis followers here in the united states. french police are saying the man behind the paris attacks was supposed to happen just days after the first. investigators say the plot would have involved suicide attacks on the french financial district. the plan was disrupted when police raided an apartment where the terrorists were hiding and planning that next move. and russian president wladimir putin is threatening what he used significant consequences, that's the term he used, against turkey for shooting down a russian fighter jet. the jet straight into turkish air space while on a bombing run over syria. the turks say they warned the russian pilot 10 times in five minutes before firing. one pilot is dead.

putin calls the shootdown a stab in the back and denies the russian jet was off course. heather: a former chelsea police officer has pleaded guilty to punching a person he arrested and then lying about why he arrested him. prosecutors say felix rivera punched a handcuffed and drunk man as he was escorting him from the scene of an investigation in september, 2014. rivera claimed the man attacked him first but the cell phone video proves that never happened. the charges will be dismissed. if rivera goes to anger management and has a mental health evaluation. he's accused of pretending to be a lawyer. today he faced a judge right here in boston. posing as david crazza. he used more than eight aliases and stole more than $20,000 from clients who paid for fake legal services. he was taken into custody at an place. ed: a brockton family has a lot to be thankful for after a teen

>> that's what happened last year. i think to some degree that will happen again this year. reporter: but cohen's model still shows slightly above average temperatures in boston this winter. putting us right back in the battle zone. >> we didn't have such a big el anyone yo, ilede be more confident about a cold and snowy winter. they were today. and there will still be a fair. a sunshine. not too tough to take day. these were the high temperatures today. look at kansas city. look at memphis, tennessee. those temperatures could be ours on friday. and thanksgiving day will be transitioning in that direction. so overnight tomorrow night, going into thanksgiving morning, will not be nearly as cold as tonight is. or last night was. that's good news for the football games. it won't be that cold for the games. look at thanksgiving afternoon. this is even late morning. so you can see how it's going to be 50's lunch time and the afternoon hours. a very mild thanksgiving this time around for us. boston's temperature trend, as i see it over the next four days, shows you that warmth and then back to average temperatures by the time we get to saturday. not much in the way of cloudiness around our area and if you want storminess around the country or if you're looking to where it is, it's well to the west of this point in terms of snow. eventually some showers are going to move toward the middle of the country by tomorrow. for us, a fair amount of sun

coming up for your day tomorrow. some patchy low clouds as the winds start shifting out of the south and we'll see some of that cloudiness around for part of thanksgiving day. even if there is cloudiness in your location for even a fair part of the day, it's still going to become very mild. and even warmer on friday before a front approaches friday night. that's when a band of showers may move through from northwest to southeast and then behind it we clear for the actual traditional weekend days of saturday and sunday, with seasonal temperatures and clouds come back early next week, eventually some wet weather. but it looks like it will be mild. if you're wonder being tomorrow and how your loved ones are going to get about, middle of the country had showers but the snow is pushed farther to the west and for the football games, another little review for you. about 40's for the start of the game, 50's at the end, and 40's back in the evening and shopping, which will commence midnight of thanksgiving night into friday morning, in the 40's as you can see. there you go. only some showers are likely on friday night.
