cindy: starting out cold, skies are mainly clear, just above the freezing mark in boston so not quite as cold in the city this morning as was yesterday morning but a lot of 20's in the suburbs. worcester is 29 and teens showing from orange down to norwood and totten as well and lower 20's on the cape this morning. it's a cold start for sure. it's clear with high pressure. a good amount of sunshine. the wind will be light. we're in great shape. temperatures will come up into the mid and upper 30's and be around 40 degrees by 10:00 a.m. and mid to low 40's. our winds will turn southeasterly. we should sneak into the upper 40's in the cape and 45 boston with mid 40's north and west of town. a little more seasonal today and a couple degrees less chilly than the past few days. great weather for traveling today.

olessa? olessa: a live look here. let's get to the map and check the ride. not dealing with a lot of anything out there, no construction heading into boston. south of town, you're in good shape, looking good along the expressway, 24, 95 and route 3. the pike and route 9 wide open and traveling down from new hampshire so far, no problems. we're expecting the trains and buses to start on schedule. randy? randy: breaking out overnight, hundreds of protesters are making their voices heard in chicago and are outraged by newly released video of a white police officer shooting a black teenager 16 times. the officer has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of laquan mcdonald. erika: the video being released after the incident happened in 2014. this is the dash cam video. mcdonald walking in the middle of the street with a knife in his right hand as he seemed to walk away from the police, two approach him with guns drawn, one of them, jason van dyke, fires.

but mcdonald is shot 16 times in 15 seconds. >> of the eight or more officers on the scene, it was only the defendant who fired his weapon. erika: a hearing will be held monday to determine if van dyke should be released on bail. the city paid mcdonald's family $5 million in a settlement. two protesters have been arrested in demonstrations but police didn't say on what charges. randy: we're getting new details about a new terror alert as millions across the country get ready to travel for thanksgiving. the eyeopener todd kazakiewich with that message now. todd: from terminal a, it's a busy day. it's building at the line even at this early hour. there are long lines. now, with regard to terrorism, we're talking about copycats, people looking at the same kind of terror on u.s. soil

the plan was disrupted when the police raided an apartment where the terrorists were hiding and planning their next move. randy: police are searching for this man accused of burning a woman's body in bridgewater. retaliation drove fernando owens to murder 29-year-old ashley bortner and her burned body found along the train tracks. investigators believe owens son was shot to death in dorchester and the man believed the woman had something to do with that. he is armed and dangerous. erika: police are investigating a freak and deadly incident, a car flying out of control and into shoppers. it all happened at the cloverleaf shops. the car actually going airborne there this morning. one man dead and two others injured. we've learned a woman in her late 80's lost control of her vehicle, hitting three men walking out of the harbor freight tool store, two were customers in their 70's and the other was a armored truck

accused of numerous overdose deaths across massachusetts. >> she keeps saying i'm not having my adventures with daddy anymore. randy: heartbreaking stories becoming more common as children lose parents to the opiod crisis. law enforcement in new hampshire is trying to change that. a whitefield, new hampshire, woman said her granddaughter came across her father after he overdosed, needle by the side. the director of the division of children, youth, and families say 1-9 state cases involve one as a primary risk factor for the kid. >> kid as young as 8 and 9 are calling us to report that their parent or guardian, whoever is their caregiver is unconscious and unresponsive and we can out and find that the person is suffering from an overdose. randy: manchester police created a new program that provides services and counseling to children affected by an overdose. 20 minutes before 5:00, an e coli outbreak spanning seven

randy: because we do remember. yeah. after last year's record winter. boston mayor marty walsh says the city has a new snow removal plan and this year the city will use more of these. look at this thing. this is a huge snow blower. rather than the traditional plow. and up like the plows which just push the snow around in the street and a lot of it gathering in the intersections, this will pump the snow into trucks, pickup trucks and every vehicle possible to get it out of the city. the city owns two of these but will rent more on an hourly rate. erika: of course we're wondering what's in store this year but ignorance is bliss, cindy. we asked an expert, harvey leonard asked a guru judah cohen predicted boston would be blasted last winter and was

there's a strong el nino heating up over the pacific ocean sending warm air to the u.s. but that system will battle siberian air building over the arctic and he uses snow cover in siberia during the month of siberia as a significant factor in his forecast. >> this past october the snow cover was above normal and we should be more confident about the cold and snowy winter but would expect a winter snow, more than last year. erika: it will be hard to repeat anything close to the record numbers of last winter but his model predicts we'll see above average snowfall, around 62 inches. cindy: last year we had 110. randy: 3 will be ok. erika: average is 43. it's interesting, too, siberian snow cover is a big factor he looks at but this el nino we're in now is one of the strongest on record and we've been keep

if you look the a the el nino years since 1950, each and every one of those in the boston area has featured below average snowfall and above average temperatures, if you look at those same years. it will be interesting to see how much of an impact that strong el nino will have. nonetheless, all signals point to not a repeat of last winter and is a good thing for many of us. sunny and dry. that's good for traveling today on this day before thanksgiving. we have warmer temperatures moving on in for the holiday and showers coming in by friday night but certainly dry out there now. you see across the country, not a lot happening. there's one storm coming out of the rockies that brought a lot of snow to the cascade yesterday and will be the big feature but through this evening the focus is on the western half of the country and starting to see gulf of mexico moisture getting into thanksgiving day. from thanksgiving day to a thank you somehowers in chicago to heavier rains as the day wears on and on the back side of the system, snow from

minneapolis to the denver area as well. all the while the east coast will be dry. look at these temperatures now for thanksgiving. 60's, even 50's to around 60 here. we're talking about warm temperatures here for the holiday. you contrast that so what you're heading out the door in now and takes sold stuff. 29 in worcester and 23 in the city of boston. notice all the sunshine in your 12-hour forecast. temperatures by 7:00 a.m. still holding near the freezing mark and then in the 40's late morning and into the afternoon. we're looking for mostly sunny skies today. you see how clear it is with a big area of high pressure on top of us. it's more of a southeasterly wind and means the temperatures will be more seasonal and average high is 48 and i think we're looking at upper 40's on the south shore of the cape, 45 miles and low 40's and a good amount of sunshine today. overnight we'll start to bring in more cloud and heading

towards thanksgiving day, it will be dry with a period of cloudiness in the morning hours. so out the door tomorrow morning, 20's and 30's, not quite as cold. look at the temperatures for you on thanksgiving it. it looks as though we'll see readings in the 50's. that system does approach and will bring in wet weather but not for your thanksgiving day. looks like friday night we'll get in on a few showers so if you have plans to travel locally on the holiday tomorrow, maybe head out to the football games in the morning, should be in the 40's for the football game and a little cool but dry and could touch 60's in some communities with brightening skies so good weather to walk off that meal. showers come in friday night and then friday we cool it down for the weekend and looks dry if you're traveling for the weekend. olessa: looks good on the roads. the connector with no problems. over to the map. not watching overnight construction. it's a quiet start heading into boston. same story south of town,

strain of e. coli is being linked to chicken salad bought at cosco. 1 people in seven states have gotten sick. massachusetts is not on the list right now but the people who bought chicken salad at any costco store are being told who throw it out if it was bought on or before friday. two fantasy sports sites will the state of new york. in a court hearing boston based draftkings and fanduel will argue they are legal under state law in new york. and new york's attorney general wants to shut the sites down immediately calling them illegal gambling operations and an expert tells the herald it likely will be a long battle between the two . and a downing of a russian warplane rattled nerves but the investors await the weekly jobless claims and the dow made it up for lost ground, recovering losses to end the day about 20 points higher.

demonstration assist night. randy: a fixture of the st. patrick's day parade has died. the family of john "whacko" hurley died at massachusetts general hospital and he was the long time organizer of the st. patrick's day parade and fought to keep gays and lesbians from marching in the parade. organizer broke with tradition and allowed a group of gay veterans into the parade this year. erika: a former chelsea police officer pleaded guilty to punching a person he arrested and lying about why he arrested him. prosecutors say felix rivera punched a handcuffed and drunk man he was escorting from a scene of investigation in september of 2014. rivera claims the man attacked him first but this cell phone video proves that never happened. the charges will be dismissed if rivera goes to anger management and has a mental health evaluation. randy: a boston man accused of pretending to an lawyer is facing a judge now.

david koraca is accused of posing as david carazza. the police say he used more than eight aliases and he was taken into custody at an office inside 1 international place. a california man spent 16 years behind bars has been exonerated now. a judge ruled lewis vargas did not commit the three sexual assaults he was convicted of in 1999. the d.n.a. evidence of a victim was tested recently and does not match vargas. erika: a new hampshire man is facing charges after police say per hour. joshua lessard was arrested on 93 in canterbury in a 70-mile-per-hour zone and charged with reckless driving. due in court in january. boston.
