neighbors say this is the boat dean largesse stole early saturday morning as he tried to escape. the 32-year-old was wanted for a domestic violence incident in worcester. leicester police showed up at his home but largesse was already on the run. >> the neighbors said they heard a shot. he jumped a fence in the field, and i'm assuming he went through the field and came down this way and through the backyards and stole their boat and rode away through the pond. erika: largesse was eventually arrested in the woods by state police. he was armed and in a bullet-proof vest. officers say the stash in his apartment included a loaded ar-15 assault rifle with what appeared to be blood on it, a handgun, a shotgun, and plenty of ammo. they say he didn't have a he's expected in court in east brookfield today. emily: the man accused in a deadly shooting at a planned parenthood in colorado heads to court today. that's as the family of a massachusetts native, killed in the attack, honors the victim's memory. officer garrett swasey, a melrose native, was one of three people killed in friday's

stewart, an iraq war vet, were also killed. we're learning the alleged gunman, robert dear, kept mostly to himself, living in a remote trailer for the past year. police say he made hostile comments about planned parenthood during his arrest. friends of officer swasey say he died doing what was right. >> he would have gone into that clinic, you know, to just serve those people because their lives matter. emily: in a statement, swasey's wife rachel writes, "in the end, his last act was for the safety and well-being of others and was a tribute to his life." randy: the philip chism murder trial resumes today for the first time since last monday. the eye's todd kazakiewich is live outside court in salem with what to expect. todd? todd: randy, good morning. doo jurors will hear more testimony and see additional exhibits in a trial that is already moving a lot faster than anticipated. the trial was only in session

jeans say he killed danvers high school teacher colleen ritzer. surveillance video from inside the school showed those jeans appeared to have been covered in blood afterward. jurors also saw surveillance video, including images of chism at a movie theater just hours after the murder. prosecutors say he was using ritzer's credit card. chism's lawyers admit that he killed ritzer but they plan to use an insanity defense. the case could go to the jury by the end of next week. reporting live in salem, todd kazakiewich, wcvb, newscenter 5. is closed right now because of safety concerns. the university of chicago has cancelled all activities and classes on its main campus today because of an online threat. the school says the f.b.i. alerted it to the threat which mentions a shooting on the campus quad at 10:00 this morning. students living on campus are being told to stay inside.

the holiday was warm but reality settling in. to a good portion of the country. i want to show you what's been happening out in the middle of the country over course of the holiday weekend. this is oklahoma. you can see those trees there in the background just coated with ice. this is yukon there. they had more of an inch of ice on some of those trees and power lines. a lot of problems and treacherous travel there. ice is is one of the most difficult things to deal with because it can be so devastating. they were dealing with that as part of this system which is pretty broad out in the middle of the country. you can see it lifting up toward iowa in the pink there. snow on the backside. rain out ahead of it. this storm will track to our of the week. once again we'll warm up out ahead of it. we'll see rain from it. however, it is a chilly start out there this morning. that system coming at us later tuesday into wednesday. and we're not done with the warm weather just yet. i do think we have a few more 50-degree days here. you'll see a couple of them coming up on your seven-day

forecast in just a bit. the temperatures are running in the teens right now out into the orange. 23 in worcester. lots of 20's right now up through the north shore. boston even in the upper 20's but notice from plymouth down to the cape, it's in the mid 30's. and hyannis, for example, starting out right around 37 degrees this morning. look what happens to our temperatures today. that's it. we have a lot of cloud cover here through the morning hours with some brighter skies coming in as we head toward the afternoon. we have high pressure anchored to our north right now. the flow around that is giving us this northeastly wind which has drawn in some moisture off the ocean in the form of clouds, yes. but look closely here. these are snow flurries showing up especially in the south shore right now from scituate down toward marshfield back to hanover. a couple of snow flakes flying. they aren't amounting to anything but we are out there. we have a few closer to the canal as well. don't be shocked along the coastline through at least midday there are one or two snow flurries that won't amount to anything but that threat is there. clouds may back all the way into

the worcester area before we see a few more breaks as we get into the afternoon. it's going to help to hold the temperatures down. struggling to around 40 degrees for a high temperature in most areas. just a little bit cooler out through worcester hills. some clearing overnight but overall partly cloudy. 20's in the suburbs. about 34 downtown. tomorrow we're back into the 40's but rain is coming in in the afternoon. coastal low pressure comes at us by tomorrow night with some rain. we'll see another slug of rain coming in as we head toward wednesday afternoon so this is kind of a drawn-out event here. rain gets started after the morning commute on tuesday. so we're dry tomorrow morning. showers initially turn into a steadier, heavier rain with some downpours tuesday night and then lingering showers for wednesday morning with another round of rain coming in in the afternoon. so kind of a wet period here. when it's all said and done, i think we're talking about a widespread half an inch to maybe up to an inch of rain with the highest amounts here down over cape cod. so we're looking at that rain coming in with warmer temperatures. 50's on wednesday. cooling off by friday but look at the first weekend of

flurries. they may be flying out there. dedham as well. south of boston around weymouth on the south shore. marshfield over to hanover and bridgewater as well. there may be a couple of flakes. that's the extent of what we're talking about here. these are light flurries coming in off the ocean. you can see how the clouds are backing in. a couple of flurries backing in. these are ocean-effect. high pressure to our north. the air is chilly. it's creating these ocean-effect clouds and even a few light flurries as well. look at the chilly air in place. mid 30's plymouth out to the cape. other wiels lots of 20's. boston on north as chilly as 18 in orange. morning. we're going to see upper 30's by lunchtime. and maybe a few breaks of sunshine this afternoon. it could push us to around 40 degrees. you can see through about midday or so, that threat for a flurry or two especially right along the coastline here. overnight skies clear out a little bit. temperatures will drop back down. we're watching a system in middle of the country. it has brought a lot of ice to the nation's mid section. a couple of areas of low pressure. the first one brings in a slug of rain late tomorrow and

tomorrow night and a secondary area of rain looks to come in as we head towards wednesday afternoon. a period of wet weather coming later tuesday into wednesday. as that system approaches the temperatures warm up. so mid 40's tomorrow afternoon. we're in the lower 50's here on wednesday but it chilly this morning. the car heater s are on. kevin: it is chilly. a couple extra minutes. stop-and-go traffic 93 in somerville heading down to the lower deck and into downtown. pretty busy downtown as well. the tobin backing up before the city square tunnel. let's go to the maps though. that 93 pushing all the way back to 125. most of the way down. upper end of 128 slow off that 95 ramp down past 93. you're going to see more volume down by route 3. out to the west the mass pike brake lights begin at 495. take you almost a half-hour to get into the weston stretch. more delays after the westin tolls and 128 northbound you're slow approaching the crash. sounds like it's on the ramp to route 9. route 3 northbound jammed out of hanover due to an earlier crash we had route 18. take you 30 minutes on the

expressway braintree to boston. if you're taking the trains so far all subway lines are running on time. emily, randy. randy: thank you. following breaking news overnight. patriots tight end rob gronkowski will undergo an m.r.i. today after a tough hit. emily: the eye's sera congi is live at gillette with the hope for fans this morning. sera: emily and randy, that m.r.i. is standard procedure. the good news is that the hit looked worse than it actually was. gronk walked out of the stadium without any crutches or a limp. tom brady talked about the injury after the game. brady: i mean he's the best tightened in football. it's so hard to see these guys get hurt like this and i always have a lot of respect for players who play this game because you risk a lot to play. sera: the injury happened in the fourth quarter when gronk was hit by denver defensive back darian stewart. gronk rolled around in pain before being carted off the field. but after the game he got onto

injury. the broncos beat the pats 30-24. live at gillette this morning, sera congi, wcvb, newscenter 5. emily: without too many receivers to choose from, tom brady still had three touchdown passes in the game. first up, this 23-yard pass to rob gronkowski. new england up 14-7 at the half. early in the 4th, brady with the pass to brandon bolden and he's gone 63 yards. pats up with a comfortable 21-7 lead. denver rallies in the fourth. stephen gostkowski forcing overtime with a 47-yard field goal, but the broncos handed new england their first loss of the season, 30-24. we're following breaking news out of afghanistan. the u.s. embassy in kabul is on high alert right now after receiving "credible reports" of an imminent attack. the threat is for a possible attack within the next 48 hours. the embassy is urging all americans be extremely cautious in the city right now. erika: a leicester man will face a judge today on weapons charges

guns were found in his home. >> the damage or carnage that could be inflicted by the firepower before you is almost unthinkable. erika: dean largesse sent police on quite a chase when they arrived to arrest him on domestic violence charges. they say he stole a neighbor's boat and evaded them for hours before finally being caught by state police. in his apartment, a loaded assault rifle with what appeared to be blood on it, a handgun, a shotgun, and plenty of ammunition. he's expected in court in east brookfield today. todd, out to you. todd: erika, thank you. testimony resumes today in the philip chism trial here in salem. last week, jurors saw the jeans chism was wearing when police say he killed his math teacher, colleen ritzer, at danvers high school. that happened two years ago. video from inside the school shows his jeans were covered in blood after he walked out of the bathroom. jurors also saw video of chism at a movie theater just hours after the murder, using ritzer's credit card.

chism's lawyers are planning an insanity defense. jury deliberations could begin by the end of next week. reporting live salem, todd kazakiewich, wcvb newscenter 5. randy: todd, thank you. 10 before 7:00. the family of a massachusetts native, killed in a shooting at planned parenthood in colorado, honors his memory. officer garrett swasey, a people killed in friday's shooting. the alleged gunman, robert dear, heads to court today. in a statement, swasey's wife rachel writes, "in the end, his last act was for the safety and well-being of others and was a tribute to his life." emily: president obama is in paris this morning to attend a u.n. conference on climate change. last night, he made an unannounced visit to the site of one of the terror attacks two weeks ago. walking with french president francois hollande, president obama placed a single rose

randy: the university of chicago is cancelling classes today the school says the f.b.i. alerted it to the threat which mentions a shooting on the campus quad at 10:00 this morning. students living on campus are told to stay inside. emily: jury selection begins today in the first of six trials against the baltimore police officers charged in the death of freddie gray. officer william porter is charged with assault, misconduct in office, and manslaughter after gray died from spinal injuries he sustained while in police custody. porter faces up to 10 years in prison if convicted. randy: four more women have joined a defamation suit against bill cosby which heads to court in massachusetts today. the 2014 lawsuit claims the comedian defamed several women after they accused him of sexual assault. the case is being heard in springfield near cosby's shelburne falls home. today's scheduled conference meeting takes place in worcester. emily: retailers hope to see a boost today from cyber monday after lower-than-expected black friday sales. in-store sales fell more than a

last year. meanwhile consumers spent $2.7 billion online. that's a big bump, up 14%. today consumers are expected to shell out nearly $3 billion. randy: students heading back to school in manchester, new hampshire, will experience some changes. the school district has altered its hours based on a new contract. high school will start at 7:45 this morning. middle school begins at 7:35. and elementary school students will be in class at 8:45. the new academic calendar also builds in three snow days. emily: police are searching for this robber who threatened to stab a clerk at a methuen convenience store. you can see the man rush into the store on lowell street saturday, heading right behind the counter. he got away with a cigar box with money inside. police say the crook was last seen running away from the store down cypress ave. randy: a burglary suspect has died in california after getting stuck in a chimney. authorities say he was conscious when help arrived but he stopped responding 10 minutes later. investigators believe he got

stuck in the chimney friday night after rummaging through stuff outside. but it wasn't until the homeowner lit a fire that the man was found. investigators are now trying to determine exactly what killed him. emily: a bus full of college students overturns in virginia. 35 people were hurt, one of them seriously, after the crash near richmond. the bus driver is now facing reckless driving charges after police say he lost control on a ramp curve, causing the bus to tip. the bus was carrying 51 people at the time, most of them college students from u.v.a., virginia tech, and radford university. randy: tomorrow, the mbta will begin its new ban on all political ads debating moral, religious, and social issues. the decision was made at a meeting last week focused on an ad in the red line's davis square station that angered members of the jewish community. the new policy is consistent with policies in the new york and chicago transit system. emily: the celtics down in orlando against the magic. but they needed a little magic of their own. isaiah thomas led the c's with

20 points on the night, but that didn't help chip into orlando's lead. the celtics lose 110-91. they're in miami tonight to take on the heat. says his 20th nba season will be his last. the 37-year-old will retire at the end of this season. he made the announcement yesterday in a post on the players' tribute. handle another year but his body can't. titles, ranking third on the career scoring list with more than 32,000 points. emily: kensington palace releases two new photos of prince william and kate middleton's youngest child, princess charlotte. the six-month old was photographed by her mom at the family's home in eastern england. this is the first time she's been seen since her christening in july. the palace posted the pictures to twitter yesterday. randy: very cute.

getting big quick, huh? all right. we're seeing lots of delays out there this morning. monday everybody back to work, back to school. the expressway is all filled in here braintree to boston. taking close to 0 minutes. let's go to the maps. further south on route 3, we're seeing some big delays out of hanover this morning. most of the way up to the expressway. that's from an earlier crash we had at route 18 in weymouth. you're dealing with about a 30-minute ride to get from hanover up to braintree. now 128 northbound slowdowns off 95 up to a crash on the ramp to route 9. that crash should be out of the way shortly. 24 brake lights out of avon getting up to 93. expressway. off to the north, route 3 is busy off 495 down past 129 and treble cove. 93 heaviest from just about 125. not quite dascomb road all the way down to the city. and 128 busy here out of lynnfield right down past 93. if you're taking the trains all lines are running on time at this time. what can we expect in the

weather department. cindy: chilly out there this morning. it is sticking around. you can see the clouds over boston right now. 29 degrees. that is it in town. and it's even colder north and west of the city right now. you can see out through southern new hampshire, lower 20's. 23 in worcester right now. and notice your 12-hour forecast in worcester gives you clouds with breaks of sunshine throughout the day. only 34 at noon. mid 30's the best we're going to do for highs today out through the hills of worcester county. we've got mid 30's already down along the south coast and the cape. that's because we've got a flow of air off the ocean. we've had some ocean-effect flurries here. you can see sthem scattered about the south shore. these are flurries. a couple flakes in the air. a few more here down around the new pedestrianford area as well. we are going to keep threat for a couple of flurries in the forecast near the coast through midday and then more breaks of sunshine as we get into the afternoon with temperatures coming up only into the mid 30's to around 40 degrees today. so it's a chilly one. partly cloudy tonight. a lot of 20's in the suburbs. lower 30's downtown and tomorrow
