the other is an 18-year-old identified as alexander mills. they were both arrested in connection with a 66-year-old taxi driver who was shot during an apparent armed robbery. he drove for bluebird cabs. the taxi and from the gas station where he picked up a far e shortly before he was found dead. he was a well loved father and vietnam veteran. we expect to learn more about how police tracked down the teenagers and the exact charges they are facing. erika: more breaking news. the defense secretary confirming the u.s. will expand special ops forces in iraq to help fight isis militants. ash carter says that, over time, teams will be able to conduct raids, free hostages, gather

leaders. but he did not offer troop numbers, saying only that operations will be done in cooperation with the iraqi government. emily: new this noon, additional security in cambridge after a school bomb threat. police say an anonymous email stated a bomb was placed in a middle school. five buildings impacted by the threat were checked out. nothing was found. all cambridge schools remained open despite the threat. erika: lawyers for boston marathon bomber dzhokhar tsarnaev back in court today. they' re asking for a new trial, citing a supreme court ruling that they say puts some of his convictions in jeopardy. newscenter 5' s kelley tuthill is live outside federal court. kelley? kelley: a lot of complicated legal arguments. the focus is on whether or not the boston bombers should get a new penalty phase. dzhokhar tsarnaev was not in court for this motion. he remains behind bars at the

took him as a child. was very quiet and a beautiful soul. sera: a grandfather giving jurors a glimpse into philip chism as a child, saying the boy was well behaved and respectful. how chism' s grandmother and aunt both suffered from mental illness. a family friend from tennesee became emotional talking about the financial stuggles of chism family. claudia rodriguez testified they would stay with her family. philip was a normal kid, but was angry over the prospect of moving to massachussetts. >> he got angry with his mom. i tried to talk about moving but he wouldn' i was very up front.

about moving. but he was receptive. sera: and several former danvers high school classmates told the court the chism was at first outgoing when the school year started, but became withdrawn in the weeks before math teacher colleen ritzer was killed. >> i knew him as a very excited person. very outgoing. talking to us a lot. getting to know us. and then all of a sudden he just got quiet and changed completely. sera: as his friends and loved ones took the stand, he did not appear to have any reaction. he was facing forward and looking down slightly as he had done throughout the trial so far. jurors have been dismissed for the day. erika: to the weather now. live radar shows rain creeping toward the boston area. cindy, it' ll be sticking around for a bit. cindy: it is indeed. we are just getting started with this rain.

re just getting started and temperatures will hold steady. we have lower 40' s in boston. we will hold in the mid-40' s through the overnight hours. rain comes tomorrow. erika: new this noon, manchester, new hampshire police are searching for a man who threatened a clerk with lighter fluid. the clerk says this masked man walked up to the window at speedway gas overnight and began pouring the fluid on the booth, threatening to light it if she didn' t empty the register. she did handing over a pile of cash before the suspect took he' s still on the run this noon. spend up to 12 years behind bars for the murder of a transgender woman in the philippines. overnight private first class joseph scott pemberton was convicted of strangling the woman and leaving her body in a hotel room last fall. witnesses say the two left together after meeting in a bar. a probable cause hearing is scheduled for today for one of four people accused in a grisly marshfield murder. police say mark o' brien of south

september 16 murder of robert mckenna, after he and the others broke into the victim' s home. o' brien has pleaded not guilty and has been held without bail since his arraignment. right now, a second person is facing charges in that weapons theft from the worcester armory. this is ashley bigsby. police say a cell phone photo shows her holding one of the stolen handguns. another picture shows what appears to be a stolen assault rifle. police used to the photos to track bigsby to a dochester apartment. she' s due in court thursday, charged with lying to the fbi. former army reservist james walker morales is accused of stealing those weapons and trying to sell them. investigators have recovered all 6 stolen assault rifles, but they' re still looking for 6 of the 10 stolen pistols. the fbi is offering a $15,000 reward for information leading to those guns. erika: the u.s. considering deploying more special ops

the first weekend of december is warming trend. erika: today is world aids day. organizers say it' s a chance to unite in the battle against hiv show support for those living with it and remember those who have died. an estimated 34 million people have the virus and more than 35 the world health organization began observing the day in 1988, just 4 years after hiv was first identified. emily: have a cell phone? you' re hardly alone. the cdc says nearly half of u.s. homes use only cell phones, not landlines. to put it in perspective, 12 years ago, only 3% of households had cell phones. now only 8% still have just landlines. experts predict more than half of u.s. homes will be wireless within the next year. apple is reportedly making yet another change to its iphone.
