a dphe mike moment and then tripped. that's what's randy: good morning, it's friday, december 4. i'm randy price. emily: i'm emily riemer. breaking news on the eyeopener right now, a fire sweeps through a home in lynn. the-the-overnight rescues and search for survivors. randy: a rock-band frontman found dead. the investigation into the abrupt death of a stone temple pilots member. emily: victims remembered in the california shooting rampage. the new details unfolding in the deadly plot. randy: staying safe in the wake of a mass shooting. why experts say it falls on you. and the changes underway at companies, to protect employees. emily: we'll get to all of those stories, but first cindy is here

cindy: temperatures this morning starting out mainly in the 30's. 39 boston, 34 worcester. you're going to notice winds have settled down overnight from how strong they were yesterday. it is enough to knock back the wind chills. you want to bundle up. skies are clear. the storm that delivered all that wind yesterday now offshore. high pressure is nosing in. not just for today but through the weekend. wall-to-wall sunshine today. there may be a couple of clouds this afternoon. that's it. winds out of the west. the sun is up at 6: 25. we'll jump into the 40's this afternoon flooring high of 47 today in boston. pretty nice friday afternoon on the way. let's get you out to the roads and see how we're looking out there. good morning, olessa.

the overnight road work at the zakim bridge, as you travel there is some construction in place, to the braintree split. as well as 128 at 95. further north and westbound of town, no problems on the pike or route 9. some construction has the two left lanes blocked. so far we're expecting the trains and buses to start the morning on schedule. randy, emily? emily: four people are unaccounted for in a fire in lynn. so far there are a lot of questions. randy: two people were pulled from the home unconscious. they were revived on the way to the hospital. at this hour we don't have any word on their conditions. emily: remembering the 14

bernardino. thousands of people lighting candles in this stadium in honor of those lives, tragically cut short. the tribute comes as we get new details about the violent plot to kill. randy: the eyeopener's erika tarantal is tracking overnight developments. erika: good morning. we now know the couple behind the rampage had an arsenal. military rifles and handguns legally purchased. also found in their home thousands of rounds of ammunition. right now the f.b.i. treating it as a potential act of terror. farook had communicated with extremists. a neighbor admitted to becoming suspicious of farook and his pakistani-born wife. they had been working long hours in their garage. there is evidence farook deleted

indicating the assault was preplanned. >> it was unspeakable, the carnage that we are seeing and the pure panic on the face of those individuals that were still noo need and needing to be safe. erika: the 14 victims have been identified and range in age from 26-60. the attack could have sprung from work-related rage or a personal vendetta. they are just not saying yet. emily: a woman from here is among the survivors in the shootsing. 32-year-old amanda gaspard is from hinsdale, new hampshire. she used to work for the cheshire medical center in keene. she was shot 3 times in the leg. her family pastor tells us her parents are just thankful she's alive. >> we're encouraged. it is going to be a long road to recovery for amanda.

some didn't make it. randy: police are pushing for vigilance in wake of the violence in san bernardino. thousands of people attended the holiday lights tree lighting last night on boston common, with an increased police presence. but as boston police commissioner williams evans points out, it's what you don't see that is critical. >> monitoring social media. you know, working with our partners. we're involved in monitoring travel in and out of not only our state but out of the country. there is a lot of great information sharing. randy: the big concern for law enforcement right now, lone wolves that fly under the radar. emily: experts are urging situational awareness in the work place, following the shooting rampage. they say you must take charge of your own safety. >> you can't stop this type of thing from happening because you don't know from where it is going to come or how it is going to come, but what you can do is know how you are going to react

do. emily: many companies are now re-evaluating safety procedures, and how to strategize for the unthinkable. randy: other stories we're following right now, a woman is suffering life-threatening injuries after she was struck by a car in boston. this happened last night at the intersection of commonwealth ave and agganis way. police say she was taken to beth israel. the driver did stay at the scene. emily: breaking overnight, the former singer of the stone temple pilots has been found dead. scott weiland died in his sleep according to a statement on his facebook page. he was 48-years-old. nothing has been reported on a cause of death. weiland did have issues with substance abuse. randy: a housekeeper has been charged with scamming an arlington man out of thousands of dollars by pretending to have a brain tumor. 24-year-old anisa llega was in court yesterday, accused of conning donald hodgins out of $80,000. her attorneys say she never asked for the money, claiming it was all gifts.

held on bail. emily: a no-go on what could've been a key witness for the defense in the murder trial against philip chism. jurors had the day off yesterday while the judge and lawyers decided on whether or not the defense could call another medical expert to the stand. chism's lawyer wanted to put them on the stand. he would draw similarities of his brain to that of a person with schizophrenia. chism was never actually diagnosed with schizophrenia. his lawyer claims he was insane at the time he raped and murdered his teacher two years ago. randy: more trouble for candidates on the campaign trail.

flames prompting a national warning about the lithium batteries. they can be over-charged, causing them to overheat. but some sellers, like julie rosato at the square one mall, say you get what you pay for. >> this is a $1,000 board. it is a very quality design. because of that, they are not going catch on fire. emily: the state fire marshal says if you are intent on buying one this holiday season, make sure it has a symbol proving that it meets safety standards in the u.s. and always handle the devices with care. the shootings in california sparking new debate on gun control. randy: the push for change. and the struggle it's facing in the senate. a castle in france back on the market. but it's what's inside that counts.

emily: friday-friday. i'm very excited. i don't even care that it is cold. i don't even care. cindy: it is not going to be cold for long at all. this is the first friday of the month of december. we're heading into the first week of december. it feels more like a late october weekend. randy loves it. randy: have i yard work to do. cindy: perfect for that or whatever you have got going on. yesterday, as we talked about, we had some really strong winds develop in the afternoon. the south coast, fair haven, gusts to 44. blue hill gusting as well. the winds picked up yesterday and brought in cooler air. so it is cooler today, but with less wind, it is actually going to feel pretty nice this afternoon.

the weekend and yes, we are warming it up once again into the 50's as we go through the weekend. starting off this morning with wind chills in the mid 20's in wester county. make sure you have dressed for december throughout this morning. the winds are not terribly strong. at or below 10 miles an hour. it feels a little bit colder. we are just above freezing in worcester at 34. mid 30's in the cape. boston now is 39. you can see over the next 12 hours, we're going to keep those temperatures in the 30's until 7:00 or 8:00 this morning. then when jump into the 40's with a lot of sunshine in the forecast throughout the day. the skies are generally clear now. that storm system that brought us rain and all that wind is spinning away from us taking the stronger winds along withice. we have a massive stralling area

this is going to dominate our weather through the upcoming weekend. the air mass is slightly cooler but the winds are light so throughout the day we're going to see those winds holding at or below 10 miles per hour. early this afternoon they may cake kick up a little bit to -- kick up to 10-15. mid to even a few upper 40's along the coastline. average shy that. you can see throughout the day, lots of sunshine here overnight. saturday. looking for clear skies as well. chilly tonight perfect 20's to the lower 30's for overnight temperatures. the weekend, high pressure starts autoto our west. milder temperatures start to work on in. highs tomorrow, close to 50. by sunday running in the mid to upper 50's perfect wouldn't

randy? randy: commitment 2016: a trio of republicans campaign in the granite state today. florida senator marco rubio will speak at an event in portsmouth. and former new york governor george pataki and south carolina senator lindsey graham both have events in lebanon and keene. hillary clinton making stops in new hampshire yesterday. she began with the issue of gun control at each event. clinton called for new gun restrictions saying the mass shooting in california should motivate congress to pass new legislation. gun control has become a central topic of clinton's campaign following the series of mass shootings in recent months. the democratic front-runner also spoke about small businesses and women's issues. emily: new troubles on the trail for gop presidential candidate ben carson. speaking before the republican jewish coalition in washington, carson struggled with the pronunciation of hamas. >> the challenge is to split between fatah and hamas.

state of conflict. fatah rose the west bang and hamas the gaza strip. emily: carson's grasp of foreign policy issues has been questioned, following his rise in the polls. republican front-runner donald trump had his own troubles in front of the same group. >> you know what i want to do? i want to wait until i -- you know, i'm leaving for israel in a short time. i know what you're saying. i just -- you're not going to be -- who is the wise guy? emily: trump received boos when he stumbled on a question about his commitment to jerusalem. israelis and palestinians claim the ancient city as their capital. randy: another win for steve wynn's push to build a casino in everett. a judge has dismissed a lawsuit filed by the city of boston to stop it. the judge says the state gaming commission acted properly to award wynn a casino license. which has been one of the

boston. emily: economic headlines this morning, staples is conceding in order to make a proposed deal with office depot. the two companies are meeting next week with federal trade commission officials, to resolve antitrust concerns stemming from the deal. staples says it will sell office depot assets with revenues of up to $1.25 billion. investors are keeping an eye out for november's jobs report to be released today. that could have an impact on the federal reserve's decision to raise short-term interest rates. asian stocks were lower this morning. right now, stock futures are higher on wall street, after the dow lost 252 points to close at 17,477. randy: before 5:00, a check of your stories trending this morning. a major upset in college basketball. the ucla bruins beat the top-ranked kentucky, handing the wildcats their first loss of the season, and first regular season loss since march 8 of 2014. and this is ucla's first win over a top-seeded team since march of 2003, when they beat

the bruins led most of the game last night, 87-77 the final. emily: the super bowl halftime show has a headliner. coldplay will perform at super bowl 50. chris martin and company release a new album today, but they haven't exactly been burning up the charts lately. last year katy perry starred in the most watched halftime show with more than 118 million viewers. the game is scheduled for february 7 in santa clara, california. randy: this seven bedroom castel in the south of france is back on the market for the first time in decades. but this is why it's so special. the castle, originally built in the 1300's, has 5 picasso drawings sand-blasted on walls. the murals are now classified as historic monuments. the castle, going for about $9.6 million, was last on the market in 1950. it has gone up probably just a little bit since last time around. emily: still a bargain.

those hurt. she's expected to recover. emily: the u.s. senate has voted against expanding background checks guns. the measure called for background checks for all gun purchases made online and at gun shows. right now, background checks are only required for purchases from licensed dealers. this proposal was also rejected in december 2012 after the shooting massacre at sandy hook elementary in newtown, connecticut. randy: the funeral is today for the melrose-native killed in a in colorado. officer garrett swasey was gunned down responding to the call last friday. swasey graduated melrose high school in 1989. funeral services will be held this glanch colorado springs. emily: high bail for a dorchester man, thanksgiving killing outside a fenway bar. dominique carpenter-grady stayed out of public view during his arraignment yesterday. prosecutors say he and another man, who has not been

and started firing outside the who's on first bar on yawkey way. jephthe chery, of hyde park, was struck and killed. no one has been charged with his murder yet. chery's wake is today. his funeral tomorrow. randy: this new hampshire man will serve 60-years to life for killing his parents, and setting their house on fire. matthew dion pleaded guilty yesterday to the march 2014 attack in manchester. the 40-year-old ran away, and was caught in florida in april. prosecutors say they received a letter from dion during his year on the run confessing. emily: the man accused of stealing weapons from the worcester armory will face a judge today. james morales is accused of breaking into the facility last month and taking 16 guns. six of the weapons are still missing. meantime, a judge is considering dropping the most serious charge unlawful possession of a machine gun against a woman involved in the case. according to the telegram, the judge will decide next week to

house arrest. randy: an incredible end to the green bay/detroit game. the packers' aaron rodgers scrambles with no time on the clock. he heaves up a hail mary right into the hands of richard rodgers for the touchdown. the packers came from 20 down to get the win over the lions last night. emily: the celtics use some frequent flyer miles taking on the sacramento kings in mexico city. the stadium seats 22,000 bigger than any in the nba. and the celtics made good on that crowd. isaiah thomas knocking down 21 points. but there was some drama with former celtics guard rajon rondo. he gave the ref a stare-down and got tossed. celtics win 114-97. randy: boston's official christmas tree is shining bright on the common. the holidayights celebration here on channel 5 last night. our j.c. monahan and anthony everett helped mayor marty walsh

the spruce is a yearly gift from nova scotia, to thank boston for relief efforts after an explosion in the state house beautiful last night. the statehouse lights its menorah for hanukkah on monday. emily: looks great. it is going to be really windy. cindy: the winds did pick up but have been settling down through the overnight. not nearly as windy today. we're on day four in the month of december. so far each and every day has had a high temperature above average. today we're closer to average, which is now about that degrees. look what happened what happens over the weekend. back in the 50's. maybe a few upper 50's on sunday. overall a milder pattern is taking hold once again as the jet stream will be lifting up to the north here. much of the eastern seaboard is going to be experiencing some above average temperatures.

cooler side of high pressure. our storm that brought all of that wind pulling away. high pressure is flowing inform a light flow of air. you can see the absence really any storminess across the country. you can see the absense of any arctic air. colsde temperature on the map is around hudson bay. no real cold air to speak of. that is going to translate well this weekend. milder southwesterly winds take hold meaning temperatures will be warmer on sunday than saturday. weather looking good on sunday for that patriots game. wet weather likely coming in tuesday into wednesday. there is going to be a storm developing offhere near near the mid-atlantic states. the question is how close does this come to us?
