kelley: president obama said the u.s. will overcome a new phase of the terror threat that seeks to poison the minds of people like the boston marathon bombers and the san bernardino killers. he said america will prevail by being strong and smart, resilient and relentless. in a rare oval office speech, president obama declared the san bernadino shooting a terrorist act. >> they had stockpiled assault weapons, ammunition, and pipe bombs. so this was an act of terrorism designed to kill innocent people. kelley: the president said there was no evidence the shooters were directed by a terror network overseas or part of a broader plot obama did not announce any significant shift in us strategy, instead calling on congress to vote to authoritized continued military actions underway against isis in iraq and syria. >> and i know that after so much war, many americans are asking whether we are confronted by a cancer that has no immediate cure. well, here' s what i want you to know.

to twitter and posting, well, obama refused to say, that we are at war with radical islamic terrorists. his fellow candidate, florida senator marco rubio, reacted on tv moments after the speech. >> nothing that happened in the speech tonight is going to assuage people' s fears. we heard that the same strategy that brought us to this point is the one we will continue. if he believes there is a coalition fighting isis, that is absurd. reid: on his website, ted cruz said that if elected president, he would shut down the immigration system that has but jihadists into the country. antoinette: breaking news in swansea tonight, the all clear given there after an armed man forced people to take cover in their homes. swat teams called in. a reverse 911 call sent out to people warning them that there was a man with a gun on the loose. police say it all started as a disagreement between a man and

the temperatures went down today. mike: many areas away from the city it is dropping quickly. this is the issue we have. we have temperatures dropping. that extra moisture on the tops could create some areas creating black ice. those temperatures are cold enough. some black ice. this is not going to be a widespread problem. that moisture on the surface creates that black ice. the careful if the road looks like it is wet. if it looks like it is wet, you could be dealing with some black ice. those clouds will be burning off as we look at tomorrow. frosty in the morning. you will leave the winter coat.

as kids head back to class tomorrow. and tonight, the fbi is releasing new information about who may have made those threats. newscenter 5' s juli macdonald is live in cambridge. reporter: when parents and students pull up here and at other cambridge schools, they can' t expect to see police again. they do believe it was a student. >> it' s pretty scary even if you' re in high school. reporter: it was standing room only at the cambridge senior center this afternoon; hundreds of parents came to find out why there' s still no suspect behind three email threats against city schools last week. >> we call it the going dark problem. we see this increasing use of anonymizing software and encryption technology that can frustrate law enforcement' s efforts to lawfully identify and obtain court authorized information. reporter: investigators believe a ' good samaritan' who anonymously reported the first threat, is actually the one responsible for all 3.

reid: neighbors say they have seen pinheiro at the complex on other occasions. pinheiro was arraigned thursday for assault and battery on a child, he' s being held without bail. the 4-year-old is doing ok now after being treated at the hospital. antoinette: community tips helping police in peabody to make six arrests for drugs and sex trafficking. peabody police say they made the arrests last night at this home on dark lane with the help of salem police and the fbi. the house has been under investigation for 3 months. all six suspects are expected to face a judge tomorrow. a man shot last night in south boston has died from his injuries. and now police say they' ve made 3 arrests. the shooting happened around 8:00 on old colony avenue. a car at the scene was riddled with bullets, and the drivers' side window was heavily damaged. police have not identified the victim or any of the suspects. reid: the murder trial of the danvers teen charged with killing his teacher continues in the morning. defense lawyers for phillip chism are now presenting their

they' re trying to convince the jury that chism, who was 14 at the time, was insane when he killed colleen ritzer after school in a bathroom in october 2013. chism' s attorneys say part of the testimony barred from the courtroom included that the teen told a psychiatrist he hears voices telling him he is a ninja. a second suspect will be arraigned tomorrow in connection with the discovery of a burned body in bridgewater. 30-year-old ovi cruz is accused of misleading police in the death of ashley bortner. the 29-year-old' s body was found last month. investigators are still looking for fernando owens, the prime suspect in the actual murder. antoinette: also in court tomorrow, the man accused of planting a hoax device in boston. police say surveillance images and a tip led them to james derepentigny in lawrence. he' s accused of dropping a bag next to a homeland security suv and walking away on friday. there was no threat, but it prompted the area to be shut down while police and the bomb

a large water main break shuts down water service for some residents of westborough. it happened around 3:00 p.m. on whitney street. the police department received dozens of calls from residents complaining of low water pressure or no water service. water was shut down on the affected block while repairs were made. the cause of the break is under investigation. a terror suspect taken down. the attack in london and the arrest caught on camera. a church hit by a hit and run driver. the disaster averted by just inches.

reid: a local church impacted by a hit and run driver. that could have been a disaster. instead, the church is cleaning up and moving on. frank: a house of worship damaged in a hit and run. eric martin was walking his dog on saturday morning when he saw the pickup truck' s going down the avenue. he said that it did not appear as if the driver had looked down in front of the church. >> there were sparks everywhere. it went airborne about three feet in the air. it hit the church. frank: a special holiday service this sunday despite the damage. church leaders giving us the pictures of the aftermath before it was patched up. the pastor is counting his
