past weekend and i got really sick yesterday. so this is the first time i left my house. reporter: boston inspectional services confirming 30 students have gotten sick. boston college sending out a campus-wide alert. the common link? they all ate at chipotle in cleveland circle. >> yeah. i certainly wouldn't think about eating here right now. reporter: among the sick, eight members of the bc men's basketball time. devin, a student athlete, knows a lot of the guys on the team. >> some of them couldn't get out of bed today. reporter: chipotle says nothing has been confirmed, releasing a statement, saying, we do not have evidence to suggest this incident is related to the previous e. coli incident. an e. coli outbreak linked to chipotle in other nine states has made over 50 people ill. tonight, they are looking for a different place to grab dinner. >> when we heard it was oregon, california, washington, it's going to come this way, no matter what.

you're going to have more world trade centers. it's going to get worse and worse, folks. we could be politically correct and stupid, but it's going to get worse and worse. reporter: governor charlie baker quickly condemned trump's ideas as anti-american. >> it's completely inappropriate. runs against what i think is sort of one of the fundamental founding principles of this country, which is religious tolerance and religious freedom. and i think it's the wrong message to send. reporter: baker says he doesn't care what trump's supporters think. banning all muslims? >> is simply ridiculous. reporter: the trump campaign says the ban comes in response to a level of hatred toward americans among, quote, large segments of the muslim population. but islamic leaders say trump is playing right into the hands of isis. >> isis is calling to tuition, a cultural -- division, a cultural war. trump's campaign was a joke.

and it's time for the american public to come together and say no to these types of candidates. reporter: and fellow candidates were swift to react. here's a sample. hillary clinton called trump reprehensible and divisive. jeb bush called him, quote, unhinged. marco rubio called him outlandish. and one said he was idiotic, saying next we'll be banning loudmouthed racist billionaires. >> let's take a look at the numbers. despite the controversy, trump's support continues to grow in iowa. he has 33%. ted cruz takes over the second spot at 20%. ben carson has dropped to third at 16%. this poll was taken before trump's comments about muslims tonight. the iowa caucuses are on february 1. >> trump's stand on muslims, sure to come up tomorrow morning. he'll be live with george stephanopoulos on "good morning america," tomorrow morning, 7

could it impact your morning harvey has the answers. you can see it moving up here. >> it's coming up the coast. but will it make the entire trip? on. let me kind of share with you how i think that's all play out. there you see the rain area, just off the coast, traveling to the northeast. clouds are thickening. if you look at the northern edge of the rain and how it's traveling, it would skirt southeastern mass and especially the cape. we get to 7:00. we may start to see the first drops of rain near the south coast and cape. by late morning, to noontime, it's farthest -- it makes its farthest northern move, possibly a bit of rain most especially in plymouth and down around the cape and islands. by the evening commute, only a few drops are left around the south shore, although it's still cloudy. tomorrow is going to feel differently than today. although the morning temperatures won't be that

we will have very little temperature rise tomorrow, because we're going to have a cool and raw feeling, northeasterly wind right off the water. a bit of rain off to the south. i'll tell you about the changes, coming up in a few minutes. >> tom brady's legal team is firing back at the nfl's deflategate appeal. it's a 73-page document that reasserts the players association belief that commissioner roger goodell denied brady his rights during the investigation and appeal and that judge richard berman got it right. the nfl wants a court of appeals to reinstate brady's four-game suspension. >> a new plea for leads as andover police continue to investigation the murder of jack and geri magee, four years ago. investigators are hoping someone will now come forward and help them find whoever pulled the trigger. >> someone out there knows something.

he killed his high school math teacher and if they were enough to make him criminally insane. today a psychiatrist testified that the teenager did express remorse for not ignoring the voices in his head before stabbing colleen ritzer. >> i'm not really understanding that the voices were an illness, not being able to manage it, being helpless in response to the voices, and how that resulted in behaviors that were really not him. >> testimony resumes tomorrow morning and the defense is expected to rest. >> the man charged with sparking a bomb scare in boston is being held on $50,000 bail tonight. james derpegny pleaded not guilty at his arraignment today. he admits to pulling a -- putting a suitcase next to a homeland security vehicle. he says he was trying to help security agents. the bomb squad safely blew the bag up as a precaution. it did not contain

>> prosecutors say they will not charge the officer who shot ronald johnson to death last week. they say johnson pointed a gun at police, but his family claims that gun was planted. the decision comes as the justice department launches a review of the chicago police department's patterns and practices. >> a special honor for the family of a brockton sailor killed 74 years ago today in the attack on pearl harbor. the family of john russell johnson was presented with his purple heart. he was 23 when he was killed aboard the u.s.s. arizona. his family had no idea he had been awarded that high honor. that's because it was sitting in a drawer at the local v.f.w. loved once grateful for the recognition. >> to know what happened and how this country responded and now to get his purple heart, so that he is recognized for what he did. >> and today's ceremony is especially meaningful to his nephew, also a retired marine

>> you're watching wcvb newscenter 5 at 11. >> say hello to max, a 150-pound mini horse that was shot in acushnet. now his owner is on a mission to save his life and get him a new leg. supporters have already donated more than $2,000 to max's gofundme page. his owner didn't even realize that the pony had been shot. at first, she thought he had been bitten by something. but an x-ray revealed that max had a bullet wound. >> the option was to put him down, because he can't survive

that's just not right for him. if he's going to be in pain -- >> the plan is to get max a prosthetic leg. police are also investigating who shot the animal. it could have been a hunter who didn't even realize what happened. >> tonight we're getting the first look at the new weight watchers's campaign. the company is banking on the star power of oprah and completely overhauling the way it helps people lose weight. it's got a new logo, a new fitness app and a change in focus. weight watchers is concentrating more on good health and less on counting calories. >> we still produce weight loss. now we're enhancing our program based on the latest science, like healthy eating, being more feet and taking time to take care of yourself. >> oprah is also backing the company. she has a 10% ownership stake. the weight watchers's overhaul comes amidst a steady decline in membership over the last few years. >> new at 11, a holiday surprise.

left in their bag of christmas gifts. a stranger pays a big chunk of the family's holiday tab. >> and tonight that family has a message for the person who did it. >> ha ha! >> hoping to make their children's christmas special, robin ayers and her husband headed out to the walmart in new hampshire a few weeks ago to start their shopping. >> we were standing in line. i was just talking to my husband, how it was kind of hard having the two. and how i was glad that they had layaway available. reporter: this weekend, robin went to the store to make a payment on the layaway items. >> wasn't expecting to pick it up. i was just going to put a little payment on there. and the guy there told me that the balance was significantly lower than what i thought. and i said, are you sure about that? and he looked at it and said, no, you only owe like $130. i thought it was like a $300 bill. reporter: so she paid the balance and brought presents home where she was surprised to find a note inside one of the boxes.

in off the water. it will be damp at times, mostly south of boston, south shore. but primarily southeastern mass and the cape. that would be starting sometime in the morning, maybe continuing afternoon. but look at this. a warm december weekend ahead. you're probably saying, do you mean a warm december weekend behind? i know about the last one, but the next one looks to be equally as mild. i think it's going to turn out to be true. chilly in the suburbs. but every day it's warmed up so nicely. we did it again today, reaching 56 in boston. a couple of common themes. this month, much like november was, averaging well above the average. this month and this year continues to be dry, with much less precipitation than average. almost a 9-inch deficit in worcester. we'll have a temporary chill in the air tomorrow as this chilly air comes

new england and eastern canada on that northeasterly wind. i think you can see the way it's moving. it's going to skirt the cape for that's pretty much what we see on futurecast. the clouds will be in and the southeastern mass and the cape, during the morning hours. perhaps affecting the latter part of the commute there. to about lunchtime, very early afternoon, then except for a touch of drizzle that may be left around the south shore, the rain kind of moves out. not a big rain producer and not very worldwide. it's not going to do anything to cut into the rainfall deficit. wednesday, there will be breaks in the clouds, but there will still be areas that remain mostly cloudy. in terms of temperatures, as i mentioned, chillier tomorrow and somewhat chilly on wednesday. after that, we're going to start going the other way again. in boston, we're 45 degrees. but you see the wind? it's now busy and it's out of the north-northeast

an hour. so it's chilly off to the north and west where the clouds are thinnest. it's also chilly to the north because that's where the cool air is come down from. generally in the 40's on the cape now as the clouds thicken. tomorrow we're not going to have much of a temperature rise, just low 40's. might even struggle to reach 40 around worcester during the course of the day. it moves away. the next system, which could affect us overnight wednesday, thursday morning, really looks weak, maybe just a spot shower. that looks to be about it. there you go, tomorrow rain south of boston for a few hours and chilly. only in the low 40's or so. wednesday, we'll still be cool, even though we'll have breaks in the overcast. won't be too much wind around. we start to turn milder on thursday as well as friday, when temperatures could be back in the 50's. but look at saturday and sunday! both days look to be dry and
