emily: here we are back on a tuesday and sort of a mild day. kevin: about 40 degrees here at newscenter 5. danielle: unfortunately though it won't warm up that much more. you know, yesterday we were in the 50's again. today is a big change. it's cloudy and gray outside. and then there's some rain for some moving in. it's cool and breezy today. rain for parts of the area like the cape and the islands especially. there are actually more chances in that seven-day forecast but as we look ahead to the all-important weekend-- i know
4:43 am
tuesday-- it is looking very warm just like this past weekend. so let's talk about what is happening right now. we basically have two areas of low pressure. this one right now is about to bring some rain in through parts of the area. then we have an area of high pressure that is going to build in for wednesday. that will keep us dry. and then on thursday, this area of low pressure up to the north and west will give us another dose of some rain. so right now you can see some showers starting to push in to the south coast and over nantucket. haven't eventually made it to the ground just yet but will do so as we start to wetten the atmosphere. we'll see that slide up to the north. by 7:00 or 8:00 you'll notice it is moving into the cape. as we head towards, say, lunchtime, it could go as far north as, say, 95 i think. i think north of 95 you're pretty much out of the rain. you'll just be dry all day but cloudy and cool. and those showers continue into the afternoon.
4:44 am
say, about 3:00 or 4:00. and then this evening, we'll see some breaks in the cloud deck. the other story with this too is there will be some wind pressure. talk about? maybe a tenth of an inch to two tenths of an inch on the cape. most will probably be on the islands since they're going to get the heavier downpours down there. wind gusts at 21 miles an hour in plymouth. at 23 miles an hour now on block island. pretty strong. i have the sustained winds in chatham. you can see them today. one yards of 14-20 miles an hour sustained. gusts to near 30. of course at the coastline that's where we're expecting the strongest winds. right now 40 in boston. 47 on the cape. 35 in worcester. highs today only warming into the mid to maybe a few upper 40's out there. but those winds will be breezy. it will be cloudy. about 10-15 degrees cooler than yesterday. so we will notice the difference. and then tonight we drop back
4:45 am
tomorrow even though we are dry tomorrow, we're still pretty cool as those winds eventually shift to the south at about 5-10 miles an hour. it is a mostly cloudy day though out there for sure. the next seven days look like this. a couple of showers will be out there on thursday. friday we're going to have clouds around. notice that the temperatures start to bump back up into the 50's by thursday and friday. and the weekend. emily: did i just see a 60. danielle: you saw a 60. emily: what is going on? i love it. olessa: i'm just afraid we're going to punished for this reward we've been getting. danielle: remember we didn't get a lot of snow until after january 26. olessa: i'm sure it's coming. a quiet start on the roads. 40 by allston/brighton. that's easts bound move to go the top of the screen. let's get to the maps and check travel into town. 93 southality the zakim, the construction will be gone in the next 20 minutes or so south of there. expressway northbound roadwork by mass avenue.
