for route four down to four and 225 and approaching route 2. emily: thank you. breaking overnight. one man is in the hospital fighting to survive after a shooting at boston's south end. at this point we don't have word on any suspects or arrests. a desperate call for help in quincy. right now, police are searching for a second suspect in a violent home invasion. get help. randy: the eyeopener's sera congi is live in quincy with the manhunt this morning. se ra? reporter: randy and emily, one suspect is already behind bars after police chased the pair from the home, where they tied up a pregnant woman. police say kevin murphy is one of two men who barged into the basement of the quincy home yesterday afternoon.

they have logged at least two dozen anti-muslim attacks since the terror attacks in paris last month. randy? randy: presidential rival hillary trump's comments on muslims. at an event in new hampshire last night, she said the republican traffics in quote prejudice and paranoia, adding this, >> this is both a shameless and a dangerous idea. randy: house speaker paul ryan also took a stand, saying trump's proposal goes against both the republican party's values, and the country's. it's not clear how trump's comments will impact voters. he will be in new hampshire tomorrow. a poll taken before he announced his proposal shows his lead growing in new hampshire. he has 32% of the vote in the survey from our sister station wmur. marco rubio is next with 14%. and chris christie is in third

emily: 5 investigates is uncovering new information in a 40-year-old murder mystery. police may have the name of the victim, who evidence connects to boston. baltimore, maryland police tell us it came from a tip. they also say the girl and her family may have moved to forbes street in jamaica plain from puerto rico when she was 5 or 6. she may have attended catholic school on wyman street before disappearing at 15. the girl was found murdered in maryland in 1976. evidence from the scene connects the victim to massachusetts. baltimore police are not releasing the name yet. they hope the new information will push more people to come forward. a federal judge has dropped the most serious charge against a dorchester woman, accused in connection with stolen guns from a worcester armory. ashley bigsbee is on pretrial release, after a judge dropped a possession of a machine gun charge against her. her friend, james morales, is charged with breaking into the army reserve center on november 14, and stealing 16 weapons.

records of more than 100 drivers are missing. state police tell the metrowest daily news the records were stolen when a safe was hauled off from the natick rmv this summer. the agency warned dozens of customers that they might be at risk for identity theft. the break-in happened at the express location just off the mass pike. this morning it's case dismissed for the webster man accused of keeping his 96-year-old mother in a house of squalor. helen robillard was found in her west point road home in september on a couch with towering piles of trash all around her. a judge dismissed the charges against her son because there was no evidence of injury. michael robillard says he plans to clean up his own house and have his mother move in. emily: some new shocking numbers in the opioid crisis. deaths will top 400 this career.

this week. the trial, close to wrapping up. today the defense will have a chance to cross-examine a witness that the prosecution called yesterday. the defense claims chism was insane when he raped and murdered his danvers high math teacher, colleen ritzer, two years ago. the prosecutors sought to discredit that claim by presenting a witness who examined chism and determined he was faking symptoms. >> it suggested that he was attempting to fake that and to demonstrate that he was severely mentally ill. case by as for today some of the testimony may be held behind closed doors, so as to not compromise confidential test questions that were asked of chism. emily: thank you. right now the search is on after a bold robbery caught by surveillance cameras in new

the whole thing was reportedly recorded on a cell phone. police say the gun was not real. the girls involved face armed assault charges. deadly stabbing in dorchester. police now say valerie cirilo-perez killed her boyfriend, anthony sinclair, in her home on nightingale street. cirilo-perez told police sinclair attacked her before she stabbed him. murder. a new bill before the u.s. senate is named for glen doherty, the winchester native who died in an attack at the u.s. consulate in benghazi. that bill would extend full death benefits to family members of unmarried federal contractors without children. doherty's parents have been fighting with the cia over an administrative rule, denying benefits to contractors without dependents. that means his relatives were denied a 400,000 dollar death benefit.

emily: lawyers for phillip chism rested their insanity defense yesterday. a doctor questioned chism after the defense admitted he raped and killed his danvers high school teacher two years ago. she testified after three hours and some 900 test questions, the teenager was faking severely mental illness. today his lawyer also ask some of those test questions involved. some of this testimony today may happen behind closed doors. the jury could get the case by the end of the week. emily: g.o.p frontrunner donald trump defending himself againstsons to hitler after his

linked to the guns. farook's mother has now been added to the government's terror watch list. farook's father was added last weekend, following the attacks. the moves are a precaution to ensure neither leaves the country. investigators say farook may have plotted another attack 3 years ago but didn't go through with it because of several terror-related arrests in the area. emily: there is new legislation to tighten controls on travel into the u.s. the measure seeks to prevent syrian and iraqi nationals from taking advantage of the so-called visa waiver program, which allows citizens of 38 countries to travel into the u.s. without a visa. the bill, approved 407 to 19, also looks to prevent anyone who has traveled to syria, iraq, iran or sudan since march 2011 from using the waiver program. randy: a scare for the u.s. military academy at west point. security was heightened sunday after the superintendent learned of a possible threat.

increased. emily: attorney general maura healey wants the state's supreme judicial court to overturn a judge's decision awarding former house speaker tom finneran his pension. according to the herald, she says allowing him to receive the checks would be an injustice to the public. in 2012, the state retirement board revoked finneran's 33,000 dollar annual pension, saying his obstruction of justice conviction was a direct violation of his duties as speaker. but then in october, a judge struck down that decision. randy: a massachusetts woman pleads guilty to defrauding the government vida causey admitted in court yesterday to a $3.6 million food stamp scheme. prosecutors say causey, who owns a convenience store in worcester, and two male clerks bought the benefits at 50 cents for every snap dollar. she then submitted them at full value to the government for reimbursement. emily: north face founder and environmentalist douglas tompkins has died. the 72-year-old suffered
