another warm day on the road. cindy: we're start ought this morning already above our average high for this time of year, which is 44 degrees. it is 45 in boston now. we have a lot of cloud cover out there. the winds are light and coming off the water. north shore in the mid 40's. out in worcester county as well. we do have some fog out in the worcester area where visibility is down to 1/3 of a mile. you can see a scattering of light showers in worcester county an part s of connecticut. everything is moving from south to north. we're looking at scattered light showers. pockets of drizzle. a disturbance coming on this morning. we have some patchy drizzle until around 9:00 this morning and by lunchtime any showers are drying up. clouds begin to break for a little bit of sunshine as we get into the afternoon. the temperatures respond. 40's this morning, reach to about 50 degrees by 10:00 this morning.

this afternoon looking for a high of 58. let's get you out to the roads now. good morning, olessa. olessa: good morning, everyone. we had some overnight construction here on the eastbound side. that is picked up and all lanes are open. 39 south, still watching the road work at the zakim bridge. once again over by bryant avenue and the braintree split. construction by route 37 on 93 north into the braintree split and on the ramps from 125 to 128. no problems on the pike out of framingham this morning and so far so good on your trip down from new hampshire. trains and buses expected to start the morning on schedule. randy: right now, a search for answers after a woman is hit and killed by a red line train.

frank holland is live at downtown crossing where rescue efforts sent two firefighters to the hospital. frank? hurt as from under the train. they are expected to be ok. trespassing when she was hit by downtown crossing. trains were delayed for hours between j.f.k. and harvard stations. the two injured firefighters the third rail, after they thought power had been turned off. >> there is a machine they have. they put a clamp on the rail and just to confirm the power was shutdown. that's what they did. frank: the victim has not yet been identified, but police believe she is in her 40's. investigators now trying to figure out why she was on the

emily: other stories we're following right now, worcester police are investigating a possible second theft of human remains from hope cemetery. at least six skeletons were stolen from a family tomb. amador medina of connecticut is charged in that crime. now detectives say three more bodies may have been taken from a second crypt. all city mausoleums are now being checked. antoinette: two millbury students could face charges, accused of making a hit list. police say no students were ever in danger. a school resource officer was tipped off to the list. the superintendent is not saying exactly what the threat was. emily: a public school in holyoke that specializes in the care of emotionally disabled children is now accused of abusing them. an investigation by the disability law center finds children at the peck school were neglect, and improper seclusion. the report alleges in some cases students were forced to the floor, face-down. staff members are also accused of slamming students into walls,

antoinette: new developments in the california shooting rampage. pictures of a high school in san bernardino county recovered from the shooter. authorities believe syed farook was plotting other attacks. the high school, with 2400 students, a possible second target. photos of the complex were found on farook's cell phone, and he had been there at least twice, as a health inspector. the f.b.i. now believes he and his pakistani-born wife, tashfeen malik, were committed to terrorism even before they started dating. >> online as late as -- as early as the end of 2013, they were talking to each other about jihad and martyrdom before they became engaged and married and lived together in the united states. now investigating whether terrorist matchmakers are using fiance visas to get people into the u.s. right now, five people are facing terrorism charges in australia. one of them, a 15-year-old boy. authorities say the five were government building in

the arrests are not related to a new terror threat, but linked to a plot previously revealed by investigators in december, 2014. antoinette: new safety changes in the works serious injuries to fans. those changes expected at the start of this season. our juli mcdonald is live outside fenway with the very personal response to the overhaul. juli? reporter: that's right. fenway, and other parks around expanded safety netting behind homeplate. over the summer, tonya carpenter was rushed from her seat at fenway, after she was critcally injured by a broken bat. and in july, stephanie wapenski suffered a concussion, after a foul ball struck her between the eyes. both carpenter and wapenski welcome the new safety netting, recommended by the league for all teams this season. >> what's worse? a few people being inconvenienced or god forbid.

nobody wants to think about. reporter: the new netting will cover any field-level seats within 70 feet of home plate. as for wapenski, fenway is offering her a special gift. she was engaged at the park, and will now hold her wedding here in november. emily: thank you. the opioid crisis, taking a toll in boston. emily: the disturbing trend turning up all over the city. new precautions, stemming from an outbreak at chipotle. the extra steps boston college is taking to stop the spread. antoinette: a controversial move at a virginia university. the campus now allowing guns inside student dorms. cindy: we have got patches of fog and drizzle in but we'll brighten up this temperatures into the 50's

emily: good morning. it is 4: 40. used drug needles are popping up all over boston. a team launched in may to clean up the needles - has found 7,000. roxbury has seen the most needle pickup requests, with 98 in just seven months.

mayor marty walsh says the numbers reflect the growing epidemic of heroin use in the region. antoinette: boston college is taking new precautions to stop a norovirus outbreak. at least 120 students are sick, most ate at the chipotle in cleveland circle. right now, all campus dining halls have stopped self-service, trying to reduce the risk. cleaning crews will pay special attention to busy public spaces. the chipotle at the center of the outbreak remains closed. emily: happy with your job? if not, we have a list of places

antoinette: dangerous travel for drivers in washington state. right now, a state of emergency is underway after heavy downpours left many roads flooded. the storm also prompting power outages, and mudslides. another storm is expected in the region today. cindy: we could see some wet weather but hopefully nothing like that. the real storminess has been out west.

storms that come off the pacific have mild air relatively speaking compared to the ones that drop down out of canada. mild temperatures. the typical high this time of year is 43. notice during the past several hours while you have been sleeping, temperatures have been holding above what our average high is. it is another warm day. high temperatures coming up into the 50's. we'll have our warmest readings saturday. above average temperatures starting today right through the upcoming weekend. temperatures dive to the south. they are forced to go to our west and that puts us on the milder side of thing. starting out this morning, the tradeoff with a lot of clouds. it is 45 in boston. the winds are light but coming off the water out of the south/southeast. you can see that flow off the ocean has brought in a little moisture.

thick right now in worcester county where visibility is 1/3 of a mile. look at these temperatures, though. on the south shore, marshfield, you're 48. lower 47, new hampshire. a couple of showers showing up on radar. they are on the lighter side. i can take you in tighter here. everything is moving from south to north. you can see these showers here in northeast connecticut. these are racing toward the 495 belt. showers continue to feed up into southern new hampshire. a little disturbance coming in behind it. the flow around the high is going to feed in more mild air. 50 degrees in st. louis. we will see our temperatures come up easily into the mid,

afternoon and who sees those readings closer to 60 will depend on how much sunshine we see. patchy drizzle this morning. a few breaks of sunshine in the afternoon but i would have an umbrella on stand-by through 8:00, account this morning. should be dry for your lunch hour. clouds break for a little bit of sunshine mid to late afternoon. the sun is setting at 4: 12 today. most of us will see partly cloudy skies. there could be a few showers by tomorrow morning with temperatures overnight holding once again mostly in the 40's. we could fall back into the upper 30's. tomorrow morning, a better chance of seeing wet weather actually in southeastern massachusetts. you can see that here in future cast. notice by lunchtime, i think it is faster clearing tomorrow. with the clearing happening faster, i think we'll sneak up closer to 60 degrees tomorrow.

weekend, sunday, temperatures in the upper 50's to near 60. we'll cool down a little bit but we're still talking about readings in the 50's by the middle of next week. it doesn't look like a clear end to this weather pattern. olessa: we're not complaining. a live look at the pike. construction has picked up. let's check out the rest of the road work that is in place. 93 south at the zakim bridge. construction still clearing as well. braintree split and 93 from route 37 into the braintree split. construction still in place at 128 and 95. and no problems on the pike over at 9 this morning.

buses to start the morning on schedule. antoinette: trouble for the green line extension. this morning, the state says it cannot rule out cancelling the plan. the state's transportation board is deciding what to do next. they say the plan cannot move forward without significant cost reductions. the project, which extends the green line to medford and somerville, is nearly a billion dollars above expectation. new this morning, the mbta's embattled commuter rail contractor is seeking nearly $2 million more per year in funding. keolis wants the t to pay for its new passenger information center. so far, the t has spent more than $1.8 million on that center, using money keolis was supposed to pay in penalties for poor service. the agency has committed one year of funding to the project, and will then weigh future requests. economic headlines this morning, emily: fiat chrysler agrees to pay $70 million in fines, following a u.s. investigation.

was reached after the company failed to disclose vehicle crash deaths and injuries to regulators. fiat chrysler acknowledged the failure in september. the announcement is expected as early as today. asian stocks mostly weaker this morning, after wall street fell for a third day. the dow dropping 75 points to close at 17,492 yesterday. right now, stock futures are up. antoinette: now to your stories trending this morning. a university in virginia is ending a ban on guns in dorm rooms. the president of liberty university says the policy change is an effort to keep students safe, in case of an attack on campus. the conservative evangelical christian school has allowed faculty with gun permits to carry on campus, but has never allowed guns in residence halls. job website glassdoor has released its list of best places to work for 2016. topping the list air bnb. the vacation rental booking site

emily: 4: 55 this morning. time for your early news to go. antoinette: investigators are trying to figure out why a woman struck and killed by a train in boston was on the tracks in the first place. it happened last night on the red line at downtown crossing. two firefighters were hurt as they tried to check if that third rail still had power running through it. they are expected to be ok. the victim has not yet been identified but they say she is in her 40's. emily: two plainville teens are in court today on a dangerousness

terrorized another girl with this replica gun. police say they held it to the victim's head while she was handcuffed to a chair. it happened during a party on washington street. investigators say the victim was targeted because she was dating an ex-boyfriend of a suspect. closing arguments in the philip chism murder trial will be heard tomorrow. the last two prosecution witnesses, a neuropsychologist and a clinical psychologist, testified yesterday. they backed up the state's claim that chism was not insane when he murdered math teacher colleen ritzer two years ago. they say he has faked symptoms of mental illness. antoinette: one of two men accused of breaking into a quincy home and tying up a pregnant woman remains behind bars. the other still on the loose. kevin murphy of revere is accused of stealing $40,000 from the victim. prosecutors say murphy seemed to know about a large stash of money in the home. police say the victim identified murphy after the attack. a westford woman is facing charges, accused of poising a neighbor's dog to stop it from barking. police say daovone nokham slipped prescription medication to the miniature schnauzer last

it happened at the westford home for veterans, where both families live. the dog is recovering. antoinette: a taxi driver and gets dragged cabbies were protesting the ride share service outside the city to get inside the uber car. neither were hurt. the taxi workers association says their driver's behavior is unacceptable. emily: the bruins snap out of a two-period daze in montreal. the bs scored three third-period goals against the canadiens last winless streak against their tuukka rask adding to the victory, with 32 saves. a tight game for the celtics at the garden. the c's zpwo on a 12-2 -- go on a 12-2 run in the fourth quarter against the bulls. isaiah thomas adding 20 points, nine of them in the final three minutes.
