so out of the norm here and i know a lot of skiers have them all waxed up and ready to go. harvey: yeah, i know. in northern new england, there is some skiing to be had. but we are nowhere near the record low and way above average yet again. if you look at the temperatures to our west and south, they are oh, so mild. it won' t be terribly cold tonight. boston only dropping to the 40' s. tomorrow though, right back up to 60 degrees for high temperatures across the area. i do see cloudiness to the west. even though the clouds may be back again late tonight and early tomorrow, they should move out and allow for sunshine with that mild, southwesterly breeze. another fine feeling december day and very atypical. jc: a disturbing trend in boston. thousands of hypodermic needles being found littered throughout the city. ed: newscenter 5'

he' ll do about it. heather: a big problem. these are used hypodermic needles on all over the city. the city used a mobile shark steam back and made, and since then several thousand syringes have been picked up. over a hundred of those have been found by residents. nearly every neighborhood is expected -- is affected. citizens found 98 needles and proper, 88 in south boston, 70 seven downtown, 78 in dorchester, 60 in the south end. you can see that it is widespread. mayor walsh says that these needles prove austin is epidemic. >> even though this is a scary number and something that people are horrified about, it allows us the opportunity to look at

cabbies were protesting the ride-share service outside toronto city hall when the taxi driver tried to get inside the uber car. no one was hurt but the taxi workers association calls their driver' s behavior unacceptable. four people injured after a pipe bomb explosion in new york. there is no ongoing threat, but residents are on edge. the homemade bomb exploded inside an apartment building. neighbors quickly ran outside. listen to a man who was inside when the bomb went off. >> she was standing on the porch here, and she heard a very large explosion, a banging of some sort. she felt it. ed: the four people heard will be ok and so far no arrests. jc: take a look at this, a truck explosion in birmingham, alabama. one spilling flammable chemicals. minutes later, that truck went up in flames sending a fireball into the sky.

all you have to do is look at the temperatures around much of the country, middle of the country, these are current readings. kansas city, 63, even peers south dakota is 49. west to denver, 61. actually warmer than san francisco area so, where is its really? it' s a little chilly in canada, but it is above average even there. there' s no question temperatures will stay above average. the jet stream stays this way on average for the next week. there will be a couple little interruptions in this which i will talk about, but for the most part, i do not see anything really cold moving in here anytime soon. 40' s and low 50' s, and on top of that we have a breeze that is very light of the south. we ever a southerly wind. it' s not going to be really cold. just put in a chance of drizzle

possibly fog might be more of an issue in some areas late tonight going to burn away and when it up to 60 i would not be surprised if some 60' s. not far from it. you do see this span of cloudiness. that will be the first part of the day tomorrow. notice the showers are staying off to the north. i don' t think we have to be concerned about that. this mild air continues for friday and really saturday as well. i just want to give you a little bit better idea of that timeline tomorrow. we start with clouds, but those clouds go bye-bye for midday in afternoon. it does allow some clearing to come in. once that clearing comes in and we have the west and

the door for those temperatures. you can see the indications right around 60 degrees. widespread across the region. sunday could be a little bit different and here is what i am talking about. we have one of those backdoor cold fronts. instead of moving from west to the northeast. speak. it can turn cooler. that may work its way down to boston. that means it could be upper 40' s, low-to-mid 50' s instead of the 60' s, which it will be for the south and west. if that front stays to the north , the record high is 53. when this front approaches, gusty winds. we turn cooler, but not really colder.

men do not even know they have the virus. jc: cheerleading is now a very popular sport for young girls new research out tonight suggests injuries are not uncommon and may be much worse than first thought. nearly 400,000 high school students participate in cheerleading every year, and it seems that those routines are getting more and more elaborate, but at what cost? researchers at the university of colorado examines injury rates gymnastics. they found that cheerleading had one of the lowest injury rates but it' s not all fun and games. they found that one in three cheerleading injuries are concussions, most resulting from lifts, pyramid' serious. centage of injuries that need at least three weeks to heal.
