least six shots around 9:00 last night, before someone pulled the fire alarm. the victims include a male tenant in his 60's, and a younger man and woman who were visiting him. at least one victim was shot in the face. >> we saw a man lying on the floor on his back with what appeared to be a bullet hole in him. >> he was screaming for help and telling us his girlfriend is inside. >> it's unclear right now which victims were killed. police right now are looking for a motive. no word on any arrests or suspects at this hour. we'll bring you new information as we get it. antoinette: thank you. right now, a veteran mbta operator is under investigation over a runaway train. emily: the red line train packed with commuters, rolling out of the station without a driver. 5 investigates the first to uncover the man who should have been in control is now off the job. the eye's sera congi is live in braintree with where the investigation stands right now. sera: david vasquez was supposed to be behind the controls of the

station. right now, there's no sign he's back at his home no answer when newscenter 5 knocked on his door last night. he is the primary focus of this investigation after that red line train was unmanned for ine -- nine minutes yesterday morning blowing past four stops. trains in its path were moved, and controllers cut power to the third rail to slow it down. >> the train in front of you could have been catastrophic for both trains. >> something happened that happen. that put our passengers in danger. different brakes should have been engaged, train to check on a problem. safety procedures. the carmen's union released a statement saying in part having would have prevented yesterday's incident. that was eliminated in 2011.

that government plane carrying 163 syrians touched down in toronto overnight. newly elected canadian prime minister justin trudeau was there to greet the first families coming through processing which included a 16-month old girl. trudeau has pledged to take in 25,000 syrian refugees by the end of february. here in the united states there's still a battle over allowing refugees to resettle here. several governors have vowed to block it while others, including massachusetts governor charlie baker, have expressed reservations in the wake of attacks by isis sympathizers. president obama has said the u.s. would take in 10,000 syrian refugees over the next year. emily? emily: a new concern in the isis threat. the terror group using legitimate passports possibly to travel to the u.s. homeland security is on high alert this morning, over concern that isis got its hands on at least one official passport printing machine. the machines, used by governments around the world. isis members have been found with the fake passports in europe most notably, in the

>> isis has been able to acquire a legitimate passport or machines that create them. this would represent a major security risk for the united states. emily: someone traveling on a syrian passport would still need a u.s. visa to come to the u.s. immigration records are being scoured to see if anyone made it into the country with a counterfeit passport. antoinette: two very different scenes as donald trump picks up a key endorsement in new hampshire. cheers inside the event, but outside protesters making it clear they don't support trump's recent comments on muslims. emily: inside the hotel in backing of the new england police benevolent association. the group particularly in favor of the gop frontrunner's support of the death penalty for anyone who kills a police officer. outside the hotel many made it clear his stance on banning muslims from entering the country is not acceptable.

near new england, lawmakers in connecticut are working to ban the sale of guns to people on government watch lists. the governor says he will sign the new executive order, which would also revoke gun permits issued to people whose names are on the lists. the measure would need federal approval. antoinette: closing arguments in the philip chism murder trial are postponed until monday. they were supposed to happen today but one of chism's lawyers is sick. the defense claims chism was insane when he killed danvers high teacher colleen ritzer inside the school two years ago. prosecutors say he's faking mental illness. antoinette: a rehoboth mother is sentenced to life in prison, in the murder of her 2-year-old son. kimberly peno was convicted of first degree murder in the march 2010 incident. police say she had been drinking, and doing drugs, before she beat her 2-year-old. death on her husband, who later pled guilty to child endangerment charges. peno's life sentence will automatically be appealed. emily: new this morning, hidden dangers inside your home. antoinette: the warning as you celebrate this holiday

inside and taking the jar. a new donation jar has been put in that 7-11. ryan kobus is accused of beating after police say he yanked the kobus has pleaded not to 120 days. a plymouth woman rushed to the hospital with life threatening pickup truck in middleboro. middleboro police say 45-year-old jennifer mcgrady was hit on route 28. the driver did stop and remain on scene to talk with police. the victim was later med center. no charges have been filed. antoinette: staggering new numbers this morning on the opioid crisis in middlesex county. the region has now had more fatal heroin overdoses than any other year on record.
