they're going to last a little bit longer. we have a couple more days with mild air. you can see behind me on the weather map we're in the 50's in boston, the 40's in worcester. and the coolest spot is actually portsmouth right now on the map at 31 degrees. up there in the merrimack valley, if you're thinking about what today will be like, you should warm up to as high as 50 degrees. we'll have a lot of clouds around through the day. more of the same down along the south coast. we're keeping a lot of clouds in that forecast unfortunately as temperatures hold where they are right now. so 48 to about 53 degrees today. those winds out of the north and east switching to the east about 5-10. they're associated with this back-door cold front which is also why you're waking up to a lot of clouds. more clouds in the forecast for tomorrow and more rain in the forecast for tomorrow. we'll have the complete timeline and tell you how much to expect where you live. antoinette. antoinette: danielle, thank you. a taunton man will be in court

that killed a pedestrian. 33-year-old michael burns is accused of driving under the influence in stoughton. 71-year-old joseph brady was hit trying to cross park street friday night. police say burns did remain on the scene where he was tested for drugs. "the enterprise" reports the accident happened right by the christmas tree lot that joseph brady has owned for the past 45 years. michael burns is expected to face more charges. we now know the identity of a pedestrian killed in lynn. state police say 26-year-old miguel del-rosario was not walking in the crosswalk on the lynnway when he was struck. he was taken to an area hospital where he died. the driver of the car that hit him, matthew reppucci of new hampshire, did stay on the scene. he's been charged with driving with a suspended license. frank: a deadly rollover under investigation in exeter, new hampshire, right now. one person was killed when the car crashed into the guardrails, then flipped over yesterday afternoon.

sides of route 101. the highway shut down, backing up traffic for several hours. witnesses describing the scene say they'd never seen anything like it before. >> we just heard this huge crash and we looked out the window. we saw smoke. frank: police say just one car was involved in the crash. state police are still trying to figure out what caused the accident. the philip chism murder trial will be handed over to the jury this week. closing arguments are expected to be heard tomorrow. they were postponed last week because one of chism's lawyers was sick. the defense claims chism was high school teacher colleen years ago. prosecutors say he's faking mental illness. world-wide reaction to a global pact on climate change. not without controversy.

newscenter 5's sera congi has the story from bourne. sera: it's a holiday mission requiring hundreds. volunteers lay wreaths for thousands of war veterans at the national cemetery in bourne. rick ezersky: something i've always wanted to do. sera: rick ezersky is here to honor his father and mother, both buried here. rick ezersky: i think it's just fantastic to see the people that remember those that fought. a o, say, can you see a a sera: a special ceremony marks the annual event. every wreath is donated. capt. dennis mills: to remember that we are one nation with one flag. sera: but there are not enough wreaths for the over 58,000 veterans who rest here-- second largest behind arlington cemetery. captain: i would love, i would love to have 58,000 wreaths here. sera: organizers hope to get 5,000 wreaths for the ceremony. thanks to a last-minute donation, they surpassed that goal.

miles-an-hour swept through a city tearing off roofs and ripping out massive trees. it could taken weeks and even months for some people to clean up. seeing some snow yesterday. fell up in mountains which i-70. overnight, and it should be broncos game. a taste of winter in southern there has been rain, hail, and snow. and the breezy conditions are making it feel even colder than it is. >> i think it's really cold. >> it's freezing. i'm not used to it. us cali people are not used to this weather. too cold. antoinette: the storm-fueled surf also causing extensive damage along the coast in ventura. the pier no match for mother nature's destructive force. wooden support beams on the side of the structure snapping sending chunks of splintered debris washing up on shore.

just for the record. we looked it up. it's in the 60's there. i don't know if it's quite a case of cold. antoinette: 50's and 60's. i mean, you know. danielle: that's in california. antoinette: they're used to warm temperatures. danielle: we're not so used to it especially this time of year and we're getting a real taste of it. this morning is no different. i want to show you this shot though. this is from winthrop looking at the harbor. you can just see a lot of clouds out there but it is a mild start to your sunday. as you step outside the door, i mean, you could even probably put your feet in that ocean water it's that warm. well, maybe i'm exaggerating there. hey, we're in the 50's in a lot of spots. i'm just saying. sterday's high was 60 degrees in boston. and worcester it was 56 degrees now today we're dropping back to around 50 in boston and 48 in worcester which is about a 10-degree temperature change. so you might notice it but we're still running above average. wesh be around 42 degrees this time of year. so we will take that. it's cloudy today.

your monday. and then mild temperatures will continue all the way until tuesday and then cooler air begins to finally work its way back in. right now we're in the upper 40's in worcester. low 40's in concord. 51 boston. 50's on the cape and 5 on nantucket. so again it's warm out there and we're really going to hold in this position through the day today. the winds out of the north and east shifting to the east at about 5-10 miles an hour. as we head towards tonight, cloudy skies yet again. upper 30's, low 40's. it's a mild night and a mild start to your monday. a little cooler than this morning though. and then through the day of monday, we're going to warm up, some spots may stay in the low 50's like the merrimack valley. but we could see as high as the mid to upper 50's down along parts of the south shore as a warm front associated with our next storm system gets closer to us. so this is the back-door cold front today.

cooler temperatures. this is the warm front i'm talking about that is going to bring us some much-needed rain beginning tomorrow. and this area of low pressure has a lot of punch with it, bringing some severe weather actually yesterday to parts of texas. when its here we're not talking about severe weather but we are talking about some rain. in the morning a low chance of maybe in drizzle. some showers will probably be on-again/off-again through the afternoon but the best chance i think comes after the ride home from work and through the overnight hours for some heavier rain. you could even hear a couple of rumbles of thunder. it's going to be so mild with this one. so let me show you it on the future cast. here we go. 8:00 in the morning on monday. cloudy skies. maybe some patchy drizzle. but the showers really don't get going until we head towards the evening and into the overnight. and we could really use that rain. the rain winds down though on tuesday morning. when all is said and done probably anywhere from a half an inch to maybe an inch. it looks the bigger opportunity

southeastern mass with this one. let me break down that timing yet again for you on monday. slow it down for you a little bit here. as we get towards lunchtime, a couple of showers around the region. we are cloudy. but notice that the heavier downpours really not coming in midnight. see the yellows and the oranges really concentrated in southeastern mass? i do think that's the best area of seeing it. by 6:00 we're already starting to clear things out. although more clouds will work their way in on tuesday. now notice tuesday we start out at 58 degrees. that will be in the morning. temperatures will be falling through the afternoon. those winds pick up out of the north and west and gust anywhere from 30 to 40 miles an hour. so it's a windy day on tuesday. that brings in cooler air by the end of the week. and by next weekend, we're looking at high temperatures only in the 30's. antoinette and frank. antoinette: i guess it had to happen eventually. yes, it did. it's december. 8:17. stories we're following on the frank: police in ohio say they've arrested a thief who

jewels from a museum display. check out the surveillance video. cleveland police say the suspect casually strolled into the cleveland natural history museum last week, smashed the case, nabbing the sapphires on display. he then slipped out through a service door. the suspect is a lab tech and physics teacher at nearby john carroll university. he has been put on administrative leave as police try to figure out where those jewels are now. antoinette: swiss police say they've arrested two men with syrian passports and are now investigating their possible ties to terrorist organizations. police in geneva say they found traces of potential bomb-making chemicals in their car. the two men are being investigated for possibly making and transporting explosives and toxic gases. security is high right now around geneva amid a terrorism alert and a hunt for at least four suspects believed to be plotting a specific attack. administrators at a middle school in georgia are apologizing to a family after a teacher asked their muslim

"5 investigates" finding the operator did not follow several procedures. those actions could cost him his job. the investigation is ongoing. antoinette: one man is in custody after a california mosque is set on fire. the 23-year-old is accused of arson and a hate crime. those inside the mosque thought it was fire bombed. is this a hate crime?

california, want to know after the lobby of this mosque went up in flames friday when eyewitnesses say a firebomb was thrown at the front door. >> a commercial structure fire on scene. antoinette: authorities say it was an intentional act. ray brewster, security guard for mosque: there's this huge plume of smoke. mushroom cloud. antoinette: and they have arrested this man, 23-year-old carl dial, on suspicion of arson. the situation could have been worse. all of them fled to safety as the islamic society of the coachella valley mosque is just 75 miles from san bernardino. the fire-- one of several incidents that officials are investigating as possible backlashes to those terrorist shootings. in all, there have been three times as many cases of vandalism and harrassment at mosques this year than last says the council on american-islamic relations. video captured a pig's head being thrown at a mosque.

voice mail: come my way and i'll (bleep) you all. cut your (bleep) head off. antoinette: and in phoenix, arizona, windows shattered at this islamic community center. reymundo nour, acting imam for mosque: all we want to do is to be left alone to worship as we worship. antoinette: for now the mosque in california is doubling security. frank: nearly two weeks after the san bernardino terror attack, the investigation is now covering new ground. f.b.i. agents recovered a number of items from a lake after receiving a tip the two shooters visited the area near the lake on the day of the attack. four people were killed and 21 wounded. authorities would not specify what the items were. they believe the couple may have gone to the lake to dump evidence after the shooting. antoinette: congressman bill keating, "on the record," over the fight to ban people on the no-fly list from being able to purchase guns. keating says the objections to the bill don't make sense. congressman: the real issue is the gun lobby.

frank: 8:41. welcome back. season at local ski areas. never mind the real thing. even making snow is next to as our juli mcdonald reports, at trying to make the best of the situation. >> we're just trying to make the most of it. juli: the staff and the customers at wachusett mountain are dreaming of a white christmas. they've been open since the day after thanksgiving and are still relying on snow made that week. are way too mild for making snow. ideal conditions are between 15 and 22 degrees with low humidity. jeff crowley: it's to the point now where we're actually making snow the night before a rain. normally you wouldn't do that; but it's just been such a mild year, we take every opportunity to get out there. juli: even though temperatures are too high for great snow making, spirits are high regardless. skiers and snowboarders told newscenter 5 they're just happy to be on the mountain in their gear. lincoln waterhouse: my first run of the season and i'm happy. how can you not be happy? it's 50 degrees. we have music.

life is good. >> i mean, the snow is soft. it's beautiful weather. >> it's amazing, honestly, what they can do without the cold weather. i'm really impressed. juli: to make up for the lack of snow, wachusett is looking to drum up some business in other ways. today they hosted an outdoor concert featuring g. love and the aldous collins band. >> i love g. love. i love wachusett. i'm stoked. i hope they do this all year. i'm up here at least three days a week. it's early season. that's what happens. juli: right now wachusett is open on the weekends-- fridays, saturdays, and sundays-- but once we see a good stretch of those ideal conditions between 15-22 degrees, they can open about a trail a night. right now they're taking it day by day. at wachusett, julie mcdonald, wcvb, newscenter 5. >> now your storm team 5 forecast with meterologist danielle vollmar. antoinette: you've got to admit even without a bunch of snow like we're used to seeing this

fun out there with people wearing t-shirts. danielle: not a bad day to be at a ski slope. i'm just saying. you can have fun when the temperatures are so mild. they continue to be mild this morning, antoinette. antoinette: 52 outside right now. danielle: i've stepped outside the door already. it's pretty nice. although we are dropping about 10 degrees cooler today from yesterday. yesterday's high was 60 degrees. in boston and 56 in worcester. today only warming up to the 50's-- to the 50-degree mark in boston and the 40's actually in worcester. as you look over boston right now, cloudy skies out there. much-needed rain on the way for your monday. it looks like it will hold off, at least the heaviest rain, until the overnight hours. mild temperature s are going to continue into tuesday before cooler airy vent ally works its way back in, but this morning we're waking up to the low 40's up through the merrimack valley. 51 degrees in boston. right now it's 50 on the cape.

so it's a mild start out there for sure. today we're going to stay really where we are right now with those winds out of the north and east shifting to the east at about 5-10. we will have cloudy skies with us pretty much all day long due to that back-door cold front that's coming on through. tonight we drop back into the valley. the 40's in worcester. mid 40's in boston. and a few upper 40's near nantucket. those winds are shift to go the south and east. finally in the south tomorrow and that warm air will get to southeastern mass through the afternoon. so you'll be upwards of the mid to upper 50's whereas the merrimack valley may stay in the upper 40's so it will be a chillier rain for you folks up there. and the rain really does get going as we head through the day. so that cold front really impacting us right now. this warm front and area of low pressure you see here with rain showers from the great lakes all the way back down to texas is going to impact us on monday.

there could be some drizzle around, i think, for monday early morning. through the afternoon, a couple of hit-or-miss showers but it's really not until the ride home from work or thereafter that the rain really starts to get going. it will be mild so there could even be a couple of rumbles of thunder overnight. it should linger for early tuesday morning and then quickly taper off from this system. so let me show you this on the future cast. notice the clouds stick around all day long today. as well as for tomorrow morning. and then through the day, the warm front lifts on through bringing the rain. by 8:00 tuesday morning, notice we're starting to clear things out just a touch. and then those winds will really start to ramp up out of the north and west. they will be pretty breezy. when all is said and done, about a half an inch to about an inch looks likely from this system. and we could really use that rain since we're down over ten inches now for the year in boston. those winds are really going to start to gust on tuesday. they turn from the south and

"the enterprise" reports the accident happened right by the christmas tree lot that joseph brady has owned for the past 45 years. michael burns is expected to face more charges.

pedestrian killed in lynn. state police say 26-year-old miguel del-rosario was not walking in the crosswalk on the lynnway when he was struck. he was taken to an area hospital where he died. the driver of the car that hit him, matthew reppucci of new hampshire, did stay on the scene. he's been charged with driving with a suspended license. frank: a deadly rollover under investigation in exeter, new hampshire, right now. one person was killed when the car crashed into the guardrails, then flipped over yesterday afternoon. debris scattered everywhere. guardrails were smashed on both sides of route 101. the highway shut down, backing up traffic for several hours. witnesses describing the scene say they'd never seen anything like it before. >> we just heard this huge crash and we looked out the window. we saw smoke. frank: police say just one car was involved in the crash. state police are still trying to figure out what caused the

welcome back. wild weather in texas yesterday. residents say they spotted two funnel clouds in lindale. no one was injured, but officials estimate the twisters damaged about 50 homes and other buildings. the threat for severe weather not over yet in texas or in neighboring oklahoma. meanwhile out west, rain is hampering efforts to clean up after a rare tornado touched down in battleground washington. on thursday winds topping 100 miles-an-hour swept through a mostly residential part of the city tearing into roofs, home, and ripping out massive trees. it could taken weeks and even months for some people to clean up. antoinette: denver, colorado seeing some snow yesterday. about six inches to eight inches fell up in mountains which caused some heavy traffic along i-70. the snow did taper off overnight, and it should be sunny and dry for today's broncos game. checking in with danielle now. here she is joining usment we talked about that snow in denver. nothing like that here, right. danielle: nothing like that. i do want to show you that same

security is high right now around geneva amid a terrorism alert and a hunt for at least four suspects believed to be plotting a specific attack. administrators at a middle school in georgia are apologizing to a family after a teacher asked their muslim daughter if she had a bomb in her backpack. the 13-year-old girl, who wears a hijab, was stopped and asked what she had in her backpack. when she didn't immediately respond, the teacher asked her if she had a bomb in the bag. the teenager said the teacher called her to the hallway and admitted the joke went too far. frank: a close call for one driver in california. take a look at this. the driver of this s.u.v. walked away from this scene with just a scratch. firefighters say the man was driving in san jose when a metal ramp fell off of a truck and crashed right through his windshield. the driver was able to pull off to the side of the road safely and get out of the car.

50's out ahead of this warm front that is lifting through the region. today we're under the influence of this back-door cold front, but it's this warm front here i'm watching and this area of low pressure. a lot of rain with this one now into chicago, the great lakes, back through st. louis and all the way down as far south as texas. all this energy shifting our way. we really do need that rain. so it looks like some drizzle in the morning hours on monday, some showers around through the afternoon. but the real heavy rain holds off until pretty much after that ride home from work and through the overnight hours. it tapers off on tuesday morning. so i think tuesday afternoon it will be dry but very windy. let me show you this timing. notice by monday morning rain at least the heavier bands still well out to the west. cloudy skies they for us. and then through the afternoon, and evening, we pick up some steam. this area of low pressure rides right over us. the best chances for the
